Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible Multipurpose tray feeder We bought this printer to mainly print on pre numbered checks through the Multi purpose tray. We do not print more than 25 checks at a time, so the 50 page limit seems fine for our use. DO NOT BUY FOR THIS PURPOSE. The machine will start feeding fine than suck all the checks in and jam constantly. Additionally, this machine has a loud beep every time it prints. We cannot defeat this feature and its extremely annoying when its on your desk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware Do Not buy this unless you want to spend lots of money on Toner & Drum. It says the drum will print 30,000 sheets before needing replacement but that not true. That's a BIG FAT LIE. Read the reviews from other problems this printer has. Warranty didn't help us at all on drum so i will never buy a brother printer again.

It worked fairly well in most ways, but after about eight years, I began to have problems with it. Then I bought this new one about I think a year and a half ago, and it has served me very well. I just recently (about a month ago) experienced my first minor problem with it, but overall it has been excellent.

The second tray is a must if you print large document packages. I check the life cycle of the parts monthly. I have never had problemswith my printer. I hope that I can get several more years out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with our new Printer... We are quite happy with our new printer. We purchased a second tray to use the back side of waste paper. We did have a little trouble getting the system to work, but we persevered and finally got it going. Print is very sharp, and the printer is really fast. It takes some care to set the options you want each time you print, but it is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great at First I have only had this printer since around last April and a couple months ago I started to have problems with the prints coming out folded, crinkled, and/or with excess toner covering the pages. Initially I thought it was because I was printing too many pages at once, causing the rollers to get too hot and not properly hold onto the pages correctly, then I started to print the things I needed at a slower pace, about 6-12 pages with about 5 minutes in between, rather than 50-100 at a time, with little to no time between prints. Since I started to do it at the slower rate it feels like I've been getting more and more crinkled papers and it is costing me time and money having to reprint so many pages. It could be one page out of every 30 or half of the pages I print at a time. I will say those first few months of me owning this printer were nice, but since I started having this issue, it has been nothing but a sour experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good printer. I have had various versions of this printer over the years. I had one exactly like this for about 4 or 5 years and then the printing became weird. I guess there is a laser part that does not appear replaceable but affects quality of print. I liked it so much that I bought another one exactly the same. The double sided feature works great and it is much faster than I need. Wireless with brother works good so printing from phone is easy. Not that I have much to compare it too but I have been and am pleased with this unit - hl6200dw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toner rejection issue I was suffering an issue after replacing the toner cartridge. The computer refused to recognize the new cartridge. I could not get the printer to reset. "Please replace the toner" message was resistent to the reset method that was provided with the new Brother cartridge. I was able to work with a virtual assistant. The problem was resolved and the online help emailed a message with the detailed procedure that was not provided with the new cartridge. Thank you for being there to help!

The first one had printed over 200,000 pages before the fuser finally died. I'm sure I will get the same service from this one. I had a minor issue hooking it to WiFi, but I called Brother and they solved it right away!

It just said Error and Not Connected. From what we can tell, the eithernet adapter has gone south. I was able to connect the printer directly to one of the computers for printing, but none of the other computers can print to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink is smears and rubs off on envelopes I purchased this unit because of my prior excellent experience with Brother printers. But this one, out of the box with factory toner has problems with getting the ink to stick on envelopes. Sinply, after printing, the ink rubs off. Many envelopes dont get delivered because of this problem. Even after selecting thick envelope in the printer options (even though it is a regular envelope), the ink often smears off. It does this often enough that it is not a reliable printer for envelopes. I suspect the temperature for the fuser is too low, but there is no adjustment I can find.

I am very impressed with the wired network performance of this printer but am shocked at the lack of automated wireless and remote printing features which are advertised that can only be used one at a time so long as one does not plug the printer into a wired network. Very strange arragnement.

Then we started getting out of paper messages and yes, it was full, the paper guides were correctly positioned, etc. you had to get up and open the drawer close the drawer and it would print. Now it randomly creates its own paper jam by partially picking up a second sheet. Still love the printer when it behaves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy duty office printing machine. I purchased this machine with one thing in mind, being a reliable and cheap operating printer. I had gotten very tired of the high cost multi-colored jet-ink machines and no longer considered color as being important factor for most of my printing needs. My copies are just perfect and quick without the noise. Setup is fairly easy and simple! With jet ink printing I had replace the ink after only a few hundred papers. Where as with the Laser toner my replacement is usually after 5000 pages or so. I enjoy the small footprint, especially the large paper box and the very reliable WIFI printing! This printer has been wonderful so far! I usually print large files and had no delays or issues due to the large ram chip that is in this machine. No real issues other than feeding it paper and toner! I print from my phone, tablets and laptops with no problems! Toner TN850 is fairly cheap and available at most stores eg: Sam's club or Costco. The only negative is that the power cord is about one or two feet shorter than I like and should of come with at least with a USB printer cable. Thank you for your time in reading my review!

It takes more than 5 minutes to print one page sent. We tried buying a connector cord so it’s hooked directly to a laptop. Still nada. Taking it back to Office Supply next week. Hoping we just got one that is defective and the replacement will work. Never had a problem with Brother products before. Unfortunately, we already recycled the box, which is why I’m submitting this. Keep your box until you know your printer works.

You can print from your phone, tablet, laptop or desk computer. If you have a mobile office and you work out of your car. This is a perfect printer for your car. It works great for the mobile business. I purchase 2 of these printers and the one I have at home I purchase the second tray. And yes that was an easy set up too.

The large volume toners are another thing that make using this printer easier. There is nothing worse then having to stop to refill paper or toner on a printer frequently.

Very, very reliable, changes paper easily, allows a 1-sheet feed of different bond, and usually prints from my cell phone. (Sometimes the internet or phone prevents communication.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A workhorse, but glitchy The Brother printers last for a long time, and they handle all of our basic, black & white printing needs. Unfortunately, there are glitches, such as reports that the printer needs toner for months before it actually runs out. Also, the "automatic" tray selection feature has stopped working. I have to select tray 2 to get legal size documents. Finally, we have had trouble with it printing "dirty" copies recently, i.e. copies that have spots on them. We have cleaned it and it will work well for a while, and then it will start again.

This one another story... 1 month out of warranty creasing pages and bleeding toner and I'm forced to replace after 13 months. I tried tech support which which didn't correct any of the issues but advised to seek out a support center. I can't have down time with any of my printers. I'm now forced to buy another printer. Not a Brother.

I bought the extra tray (500-plus sheet version) to ensure months of "set it and forget it" service reliability of a trusted name in the printer industry. I am so impressed with the deep sleep mode of the printer that sips energy but that jumps back to life when a print job is sent. The device's web page management console is easy to use and configure. Emulation modes provide further compatibility for this workhorse. Multiple wireless printing protocol makes this printer versatile. Last, but certainly not least, this Brother seems to accept toner from a choice of vendors, not only Brother Inc. themselves. All the above make this printer a winner for me. HP's choice to employ chip-based software to now force customers (including long-standing ones, like myself) into paying though the nose for not only their printers, but obligatory HP-branded toner cartridges, gave me the final push needed to find another printer manufacturer to put my hard-earned dollars into. In doing so, I re-found Brother. This is the second brother Laser I own. Looking to probably replace my entire set of HP with Brother as time goes on. Thank-you Brother for respecting your customers' right to choose with this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it when it's working properly When it works, it works great. I've run into a few instances where the printer decides to not work and/or be connected to the network. From the main computer it prints almost instantly, from the alternate computer it takes up to 10 mins to print. Recently on the alternate printer it has decided to print an endless amount of paper with only the top line and I have to shut off the printer. I've become very good at repairing the issues when they do arise on this. I am happy with the printer but am not in love with it like I was my dinosaur pre connected to the internet printer.

Eventually, support decided that the toner cartridge was faulty and sent me a new one. The issue was resolved. This month, I had to buy a new toner cartridge and the smudging issue came back. Like the first time, I went through the ritual of multiple cleanings of the drum (seems like I should not have to do this, but apparently I do, every time I change the toner. In this latest support service I was told I had to replace the drum. After a year and just one toner cartridge? Bottom line, for the cost of the drum plus a few more dollars, I can get an HP that never requires I clean the drum and whose cartridges are far less fussy.

The manual feed tray works well and requires some learning to use label stock or thicker paper. Once the paper and tray selection functions are understood the printer will provide great output with great results.

I have been a Brother customer for over 25 years and have always loved my Brothers! I have the letter and legal trays and for some reason, the HL-L6200DW will just arbitrarily print legal size for all of the pages. I purchased a new machine after dealing with my first one so much and becoming so frustrated and the second machine does the same stinking thing!! It upsets me as legal paper is so much more expensive and they are supposed to be printed on letter size. It seems to happen once the machine has printed up several pages. I tried to get hold of someone at Brother to no avail. I emailed Brother and got no response.

The only way to get it to print is to turn it off and on again. After hours wasted on the phone with tech support, there is no fix.

The remedy is to change media type to thick paper>advanced options>improved print output>improve toner fixing. However, you will no longer have the high speed printing. This is my second Brother having that same issue, which was the HL-5450DN. I removed 2 stars because this is a major issue. I buy those printers for their high speed option, and now it takes me twice as long to print my manuals.

Wanted it on my network but had multiple issues. It would install but It would not print. Finally resolved the issue by using the WIFI print option. I don’t think the software and installation is user friendly.

This a significant shortcoming. Any pictures should be thought of as place-holders for designing material that will go a graphics printer (e.g., inkjet. I'm surprised Brother failed on this one. NTL, the rest of the printer is precisely what I want in a printer. Reviewers uniformly said graphics printing is "sub-par", but I didn't expect it to be as bad as it is. That said, I do very little B&W graphics printing, so I don't see this as a loss, or deal-breaker, just an annoyance.

Called Brother and they sent new toner, which did not correct the issue, then new drum kits. This helped one printer, but not the second. I asked for replacement printers, but this would not be accommodated. Multiple calls with customer service took place over several months. While the failure doesn't deserve one star, the five star ratings for value and features would apply to a properly working printer. The problem is not with these attributes, but performance.

This is perfect for locating at individual desks, the foot print is reasonably small and the printing is very high quality. Also the bypass allows for easy printing of checks, again increasing privacy by not using the full service business copy machine.

I've tried several trouble shooting tips, nothing had changed, they both just stopped working within a few weeks from each other. Disappointing to have to order yet another printer when this one didn't even make it 5 years.

The second printer worked fine initially, but when I returned to my beach house I found that the printer has gone into deep sleep. I have tried to do everything that I can think of to wake the printer up, looked at U-tube videos relating to resolving this issue, set up in different ways through wi-fi and direct USB and nothing seems to work, except test pages which seem to print out fine. I suppose that I will figure out the puzzle one day. It is too bad about this sleep mode feature.

It prints fast, is quiet, easy to set up, and functions well with few jams. The toner cartridges are the drawback. They’re expensive and they seem to need a lot of fidgeting with (sliding tabs and such between print jobs.

I had to replace my HP so I went and got another; it didn't work; I literally went through 3 HP printers in 2 days. The store associate recommended the Brother. I have had it about 2 month now and is it the BEST printer ever. As I said, I print large quantities and the Brother is a work horse; never jams, takes large amounts of paper; never misses a beat! Love it! My only regret is that that didn't get it sooner. Oh did I mention it was less expensive!!

It worked well for the first approximately 30 sheets of paper but then it started show smudges and toner flecks on the pages. I opened the printer and found toner had leaked and was present on the paper path rollers and guides. I cleaned and vacuumed the spilled toner inside the printer and replaced the defective initial toner cartridge. Printer has functioned well ever since. This does not give me a lot of confidence in the OEM toner cartridges from Brother. A poor way to start with a brand new printer.

I decided to try the Brother HL-L6200DW Laser printer and couldn’t be happier. Sharp, precise prints are all I have ever wanted and now I have them. I also now get way more prints out of the toner cartridge than I ever did with inkjet. Easily prints from all of my devices. I don’t regret this purchase at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost PERFECT, but... Brother printers are by far my favorite. That is why we have 8 of these HL-L6200DW printers in our LA and NJ office. I work in the IT department so I'm usually the person who hears complaints. One issue we have is the toner supposedly runs out, BUT it really hasn't. The "replace toner" message appears and stops all print jobs. Luckily I figured out how to bypass that message and have taught my co-workers how to do it as well. We're able to print more with the same toner until it really runs out. We also do this for the drum as well. This is not a huge issue, but it's just inconvenient. Also, when users print duplex, a wrinkle appears on the paper. This happens occasionally, but it's still inconvenient to have to print a few times for that wrinkle not to appear. Sometimes we have to replace the drum to fix this issue. I would've given this printer 5 stars, but only if we didn't have these minor inconveniences. Overall, this printer is still great.

I have the luxury of being the sole user, so i'm careful to always feed the machine hi-quality paper and brother-brand toner, and it has paid me back by never letting me down. Obviously, as you know, it's black and white only ----- so i have a (much more expensive per page) color printer sitting next to it that i use for full-color jobs. But the vast majority of my work is B&W, and the 48-ppm brother remains my default printer.

However, the last printer ordered. Leaves black ink spots randomly on the pages. I recommended this printer to another company and they are experiencing the same issue. Yes, we only use Brother replacement toner and drums.

It does require a brief cool down period after printing 50 envelopes, but that works for me because that's all it will hold. Not sure about a cool down period for letters...overall performance is really good for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer We always used another brand at work that was considered the best business machine on the market. But at home this was the printer of choice for me. I got my wife one for her notary business with 2 trays and it was great. Wore out the 1st one that exceeded its published life and are now on our 2nd one. Never got this much productivity out of our superior printers at work, and Brother toner is more economical as well. Would highly recommend this printer.

(I had no issues linking to an HP ink jet printer that’s 4-5 years older I purchased this model because of paper tray capacity and toner cartridge cost per sheet. Reproduction quality is adequate, somewhat granular, but consistent with the low cost per sheet. I would not use this printer to generate a business presentation if I needed to impress a client. I’d be unlikely to use it to print out post-grad work, but would considerate it adequate for undergrad or high school work. It does what I need it to do at a reasonable cost, other than not being able to print directly from my iPhone. Customer Service is invited to contact me with assistance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, Reliable, lots of Functionality I've relied on my printer for the past three years after becoming a notary/ signing agent. I've recently added the optional lower tray which has saved me a lot of time when printing document sets with mixed legal/letter sized paper. Maintenance is easy and I've even been able to save some money by replacing the roller as opposed to replacing the entire roller assembly. I've had no problems printing via USB, hardwired, wirelessly with my windows or MacOS devices or via Airprint with my IPhones. I recommend this printer to anyone with a SOHO. My only issue is the cost of the lower tray approaches the cost of the base printer which seems out of balance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far working OK, ink cartridges problematic So far it's working fine for me, printing about 100 pages everyday, changing the ink is a little more involved than a competitor equivalent model. I have to clean off the ink cartridge holder, when changing the ink cartridge due to excess toner buildup. This is very annoying, and will likely greatly reduce the life of this printer, and the brother brand replacement toner cartridges are very expensive, I have not tried the generic brands, because I want this printer to last as long as possible.

The first two were great--there was no question I'd buy another Brother. This one, which I have had since 2017, is much less good: problems with toner fusing, fuzzy printing, light printing. Not deteriorating steadily, just never more than barely adequate.

I need to manually turn off the printer and restart it. It goes to sleep within just a few minutes even though I returned it to factory settings and told it not to sleep for 50 minutes

I have had Brother printers for the last four years for my mobile notary business and the printer itself works great for that. However, when the replace toner light comes on, there is absolutely no way you can get it to continue printing, even though there is a lot of toner left to use. At the exhorbitant price of Brother toner, I expect to get every last drop of use out of the cartridge. The very first printer I had I could keep using the toner until I knew it was all done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Step-up From HL-L2340DW The secondary pull-out paper tray has been a welcome addition. I can now print legal and letter simultaneously. Setting up the printer to stop printing when the secondary tray was empty was a pain. Nothing in the manual and tech support was clueless, on this subject. For other tech questions, they have been great. I eventually added a second deep tray, which was not very expensive. As with all Brother products, the cost of toner is comparatively low and they last a long time. Third party toner is also available. The android app is kind of a pain to print from, especially if you're printing PDF by size. There does not appear to be an option. One size fits all. However, it does alert me to bios upgrades and allows me to upgrade the printer from my phone. One thing that has recently popped up that I have to contact Brother for a solution. Just recently on every print job, the first page develops a crease in the paper. But only on the first page.

We are having to return them to Office Depot because they smear ink all over the pages. We have tried everything to fix the issue, including replacing the toner cartridges that came with the printers. I have a smaller Brother printer that I use for envelopes. It works so well. What a disappointment that these were a complete bust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy setup but after 900 copies it is smudging I love the ease of setup and for about 900 copies all was wonderful. However, it started smudging/streaking the pages. Per Brother's online instructions I cleaned the roller twice. It is better but now there are dots and less smudges. I've had the machine for 4 months.

The 6200DW has a very low cost per page. The duplex feature is great, printing is sharp, and easy network setup. Buy it. You wont be disappointed.

Full ream paper holder - this should be a must in every tray fed printer. Duplexing to help reduce paper waste. A good size tray at the top to hold printed docs. Wireless and wifi printing and it is fast. Best though is good drivers and feedback to monitor its status.

My first one was an HL-5370DW, a fantastic printer that I had for more than 4 years. It was eventually damaged in a fire. A few months ago, I ordered the 6200DW and had to return within a month due to loud grinding noise, and it would not pick up the paper. I received this replacement and it is Awesome. Only issue is that there's a burning smell after large print jobs. I use these printers to print loan documents which are very large files. I love the wireless feature!

Printing featueres and ease of set up are important features, relatively low cost of consumables is also a plus for me. Large Capacity paper tray, double sided printing with out having to reload the page into the paper tray, and wireless connection are also huge pluses

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable Technical Support and Customer Service I've come to prefer Brother printers over the years, and this one was an upgrade over a previous model. But I initially had several problems with it, and its' replacement as well. It tended to spew toner all over the inside whenever it was left unattended several days. I received replacement toner cartridges, a new drum, even another printer in an effort to resolve the issue. Nothing worked, and I became convinced that the problem was a defective printer series. Quite unusual, because until then I had never experienced a problem with any Brother product. It obviously was quite frustrating for all concerned, but tech support stuck with me, determined to discover the root cause. They eventually came to the conclusion that the source of the problem was that I had plugged it into the surge protector portion of my back-up power supply, and that the power supply had been rapidly turning the printer on and off hundreds, even thousands, of times, and that the resetting process caused the drum, and toner cartridge, to spin far more often than it should. Even though the problem was on my end, not theirs, they still provided yet another toner cartridge and drum at their expense once the concern was resolved, essentially giving me a brand new printer again. I know Brother made no profit at all on me, yet their diligence and determination to resolve the issue, and the professionalism and courteous manner in which they handled it was very impressive. They could have just walked away from it, perhaps simply refunded my money, yet they stayed with it until the issue was resolved. I now have an excellent printer, which is working flawlessly, that I originally bought at a great price for what it is. I can't imagine buying a printer from any other manufacturer, if for no other reason than their outstanding service.

This printer is perfect, works every time, and prints hundreds of pages in minutes. The only one small criticism, the trays do not tell me when paper is out. So if it runs out of letter paper it will print the rest of the package on legal paper. Solution - check trays often and always maintain full.

The only problem I had was that it always double sided the documents. I was able to get a work around to this, but still when using Acrobat it periodically prints double sided. That was the only negative experience I have had.

I have two minor grips however, it is slow to print individual and multiple pages, and the Wi_Fi was difficult to setup, partly because the LCD screen is so very small. Once setup everything works well.

It's supposed to print a bit faster than the 5470 I had, which I would have kept except toner and drums are no longer available for it. I had tried ordering a new 6200 printer from Staples but I'm not sure if this was a new one or a refurb, was the price I was charged is what Staples was charging for the refurb. It's also slow printing paper sizes other than 8.5x11, although I suppose the 5470 was a mite slower on these also I frequently use 5.5x8.5 and index cards (3x5, 4x6, 5x8. I guess it's OK for what I do.

The initial low capacity toner cartridge that came with the unit looked promising, but when it ran out and we replaced it the change toner light would not clear. We ended up replacing the printer. The second one did the same thing when the cartridge ran out and I spent several hours on-line with customer support with no luck. Meanwhile our production equipment was down at a cost of several hundred dollars. We ran out and got another to get things up and running. Now the first replacement has run out of toner. Again, the Replace Toner message will not clear.

Setup was smooth especially if the directions were followed. I like the faster print speed. No problems after nearly a month of use. When it begins to print, it turns my computer monitor black for some unknown reason. Is the printer defective or the power supply is too large affecting the computer? The issue started after only the first few pages. I just tried the cleaning procedure on the drum unit with no improvement. This is my first Brother laser printer and I would NOT recommend Brother laser printers based on this product. The prints not NOT exude a professional image. The printer, however, is fast and relatively quiet (for a laser printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed I bought this printer based on fantastic experiences with an earlier Brother laser I used for years until it took a lightning strike the hard way. I was a huge fan of Brother based on that experience, and went with them for a replacement that was loaded with more features and speed that my previous model. I am very disappointed i the print quality of this printer, and somewhat shocked to learn that what I am seeing is a common problem. On almost every printed page, there is a scattering of toner that covers the majority of the page. I've seen this before from other printers when 3rd-party toner cartridges were used, but never with a new printer using a manufacturer provided toner cartridge. If Brother could resolve this issue, I would be quite happy with my purchase, but for now I feel like I bought a lemon as many others have reported similar problems. All of the nice features and the great support Brother provides are meaningless if the print quality is bad. Here's oping the issue is the toner cartridges, and that Brother gets the issue resolved soon. For now though. I can't recommend this printer and would suggest you look elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Failed after 8 months Worked fairly well from January until August of this year. Suddenly had some faint grey lines on my printed pages. Followed support instructions to resolve, didn't help and made it worse. Spent 30 minutes on the phone with customer service, walked me through all the same steps painstakingly slowly, and then offered no advice but to replace the toner ($120 because the original was no longer under warranty. After I replaced the toner, the opposite problem - white bands on my pages. Customer service once again walks me through useless steps, then tells me the drum will have to be replaced ($120 again), and it's not covered by warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Requires a huge power surge to start up When the printer is sleeping and you send a print job to it, the printer requires a huge power surge which dims all the lights in the room and causes the window air conditioner to practically shut itself off. In order to do a print job, I have to shut off the air conditioner first.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2nd go-round an improvement I purchased this printer at the end of February 2018. We had problems right from the beginning with toner smudges on the documents being printed. Brother sent cleaning pads for the drum, and then a replacement drum, but these solutions did not solve the problem. After several calls and emails, Brother sent a refurbished replacement printer, with instructions to use the drum and toner cartridge from the first printer in the replacement printer. This did not solve the problem, so Brother then sent a replacement toner cartridge. We got this last week, and it seems to have solved the problem. Apparently, the toner cartridge that came with the printer was leaking toner.

I purchased less than 1 year ago, less than 9 months ago to be exact for business purposes. I have not been able to use the printer in over 1 month. Noone knows how to remove deep sleep not even the techs at Brother. Now I have a printer that I cannot use however, paid alot of money for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not like labels Works fine on standard plain paper (a little loud. However, we do a lot of mailing and use a lot of Avery precut labels. Printing on these is not possible. Bar codes and print are splotchy and almost unreadable. I have used brother printers exclusivly fo the past ten years. This is the only model I have had this problem with.

I have read some cons about slow wake-up and being noisy, but I have found this to have a very reasonable 4-5 seconds to the first page, and the noise level is comparable to other laser printers I have used, and this is MUCH faster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does Not Play Well With Adobe on a Mac I bought this printer less than 48 hours ago, and have spent countless hours uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, etc. I finally figured out that the problem is that this printer does not print Adobe pdf from a Mac using High Sierra (MacOS 10.13). I keep getting the error message "Printing -- ERROR:/.SFCompactDisplay-Heavy". This did not happen with my Brother HL-5470DW. Brother Tech Support told me that it was an Adobe issue. If that's the case, why does the older printer work? Given that I have to work in Adobe Acrobat, this printer is not usable.

It is great for printing of documents that do not need to be in color. However, at times it seems to slow down my computer to the point that I cannot use the computer until the printing is complete. Also on a couple of occasions the printer will not print. I have corrected this condition by adding paper to the tray. Other users have reported a similar problem; adding paper seems to correct the problem. On a couple of occasions i have had to cancel printing jobs and reset the printer. I suspect some problem with the controls. But overall a speedy printer with very good quality and a couple of problems that I have been able to overcome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to Set Up Although this particular model meets my current needs, the set up process was frustrating, and took me weeks to begin using it. That's because I had to rely on another family member who is a little more printer friendly than I am, to come set it up for me. I thought it was going to be a plug and play printer, which unless you are already printer set up friendly, it clearly is not. At the end of the day, even my daughter had trouble, so I had to call Brother. At one point the service technician was stuck, and I was able to figure out the problem, and the solution to it, based on my previous experience with trying to set it up. Ultimately, we got it set up and it's finally printing. Very nice printer for the price.

After installing the new printer I decided to try it out by printing 3 or 4 pages of a document. It was a large document, and I forgot to designate the number of pages to print. By the time I realized what had happened and got it stopped it had already printed over 20 pages!

Every once in a while the printer will report a paper jam when there is none or paper tray empty when it is full. If I pull the tray out then push it back, works fine. Also, I do get some toner splatter when I try to print duplex on postcard paper. I had to stop using duplex when printing postacards and print one side at a time.

I only gave 3 stars because there is some kind of connection problem and I don't know if it's a deep sleep problem or what. I have had to redownload the program almost every time I want to print. It's frustrating and I can't find a solution.

I had an older model that worked well for many years, but finally wore out and was leaking so I bought a newer model. It had the eco-feature of 'deep sleep,' however it never awoke. I thought maybe it was my wifi. I changed my provider. I even moved where I lived. And then I bought this (the above) other model for higher quantities - which draws an insane amount of power. I was hopeful. However, it had the same problem. I have to turn the machine off and on several times a day - each time I want to print. It never comes out of the 'deep sleep' feature - and I have been unable to find a way to disable it. Phone tech support is useless - people in other countries who can only read from a script and just send a link to what they are reading - ridiculous!! Every time I re-turn on the machine, the power draw is obvious (lights dim momentarily). Plus, I have to walk to the machine every time I want to print - so much for wifi! HATE! HATE! HATE this.

Got the 'new' one (refurbished) it does the exact same thing, plus makes a horrible noise, that I am now dealing with. I don't have the energy or patience to go through all the steps to return this one as well. This is an office printer with networking, and is a terrible ordeal to connect to all the systems. Disappointed. On top of the paper issues you have to purchase a toner and a cartridge...

We had a small issue with our printer where the paper was wrinkling. We tried a few of the quick fixes and it did not help so they replaced our printer right away. If you print more than 50 pages at a time, then spend the extra money and buy another printer. I had issues from the time I installed it and brother made me go around in circles then finally sent me a refurbished one. This one at least does not make me turn it off and restart it to cool down, but it still constantly stops printing and cools down and then starts printing again.

This absolutely makes a big difference particularly when it comes to wireless laser printers. Configuring the printer for wireless is not intuitive and the directions are misleading, but the phone support was excellent, emailing me instructions and hand-holding on the phone until I got the printer to work. The printer is perfect for a home office, much more cost effective than an inkjet printer, superfast, and holds a ream of paper at a time: perfect. Well worth the effort!

The flaws are not basic, only irritating. It keeps defaulting back to double-sided printing and I cannot figure out how to set the default to single page. The manual is no help. Problems like this are too numerous. A more useful manual would certainly help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible experience with this printer & service We've had two of these printers suffer from the same malfunction -- leaving ghost text imprints and indentations all over pages -- and all the while, Brother Customer Service has insisted that they've "never heard of this happening before" and "it must be user error." We are a small business that prints around 100 pages per week -- all in b&w, with no images; in other words, a very reasonable task load for a printer like this! We managed to get Brother to send us a new printer, and within a month the same issue started happening again. They are now claiming it is our fault, rather than a problem with the machine (which is clearly not the case. Unless you basically never use your printer, you should NOT buy this poor piece of equipment!

None of my Quark, Adobe PDF, Illustrator would print crisp. I am a designer and I need to see tiny and large texts and lines, boxes crisp. It would only print default system fonts super crisp. I continue to get the horrible jagged edges and I complained and got a replacement--still the replacement won't print crisp. Also my 100% blacks appear like 95 dotted, this is frustrating. It only prints 100% black for some email or default. I don't understand why they have this massive problem. Also customer service--one lady was so unhelpful until someone else took over. The first machine wouldn't connect to Wifi after the first Wifi print was successful. The replacement was able to connect, but that's still semi-hit or miss. They need to talk to Adobe and Quark about fonts and Postscript printing. My software is up to date so I know it's a problem Brother needs to investigate which they haven't. I recommend this for maybe PC people or those who don't care about jagged lines, boxes, text...forget about seeing beautiful results for most printing, only default stuff. I'm half half recommending it--it's fast and easy set up--highly suggest wiring, not wi-fi.

We purchased this Brother printer after some research online and the fact that we already have several other Brother printers, scanners, and MFC copiers in the office. This printer replaced an older HL 5250 model that still worked great but we needed a unit that could be on the network (both WIFI and Ethernet at the same time as the other devices in the office and we also liked the idea of having it Android app capable for remote printing access. Quite easy to get setup with the Brother online support site and downloading the latest printer drivers and other useful software. One other nice benefit of Brother is that they do over the air software updates to keep your systems up and running with the latest patches or fixes that need to be installed for optimum functionality.

But we find it smells odd after printing 100 pages, as if it's about to overheat. So we've kept to printing in batches of about 25, and it seems to handle that ok. Otherwise works great. The readout on the LCD screen is hard to navigate, this needs updated for ease of use.

The HL-L6200DW with it's Duplex feature and paper capacity is just terrific. The fact that it is wireless is even more of a benefit. Even with large project such as a 50 page set of documents there is never a paper jam. The speed of the machine is great as well.

The toner cartridge - TN-880 is a high-yield toner cartridge that prints approx. 12,000 pages which means I am not buying toner all the time. The paper tray holds a lot of paper as well. I like the Brother's driver because it is light and compatible with different Windows version in my office. Price is good and size is compact. However the drum error comes up almost once a month. Their support said they could not replace it because it's a consumable product, regardless it's well within warranty period and OEM product. So even the price is good, I wonder if it ends up costing me more to replace drum in long run. In conclusion, it may be suitable for small office with low print volume (way lower than its specification; otherwise, better look for something more heavy duty for less hassle in busy office..

This was one of the main reasons I purchased this printer. I do not usually print a lot of documents, but about one to two days a month I will print around 2000 pages each day, so the speed and duplex ability of this printer is great. The issue I have with this printer is a lack of consistency with quality prints. I frequently run into an issue of at least one page in my documents printing poorly. There may be specks of ink on the page or a line of text is blurred from the printing. I have owned this printer for three months, and these issues have always been around. This is actually the second printer I have owned, due to the original purchased printer having some kind of flaw that prevented duplex printing.

Unlike other printers I have had, it collates when asked, prints clear copies and the Multi-purpose tray function is great. The printer always defaults to the Multi-purpose tray so I can print legal size paper, envelopes and other items easily and without additional adjustments. The only complaint they have is that when they print duplex (double-sided sometimes there's a wrinkle. I called Brother Tech Support and nothing we did could fix the problem so we sent our printer back and got a replacement. The replacement does the same thing. This is a problem for this model (HL-L6200DW). If it didn't have this problem I would've given it 5 stars. Brother, please fix this known issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing speed, compact, efficient. Ink comes off. After a slightly long warm up, it spits pages out at excellent speed, and duplexes pretty good too. The ink is very well priced when you buy the large cartridges, nice per page cost. It has a compact footprint and is hassle free. My only problem with it is that the toner comes off of the page easily. Even after fully drying, if you simply rub the printed sheet, a lot of the toner comes right off. In big stacks of paper this makes ghost images of the page underneath. I got my toner though a 3rd party though so I'll make sure I try official brother ink next time to be sure. It's still legible enough so I'm keeping it as I am very happy with this otherwise.

This high amperage will cause lights to dim when printer is plugged into a 15 or 20 amp circuit breaker, where room lights or other equipment use this same circuit. I installed a dedicated 20 amp breaker and outlet for this printer to prevent this light dimming problem.

I took it for repair to an authorized Brother repair place, but the printer was still a bummer! I wanted to stay with Brother, so I went to Staples for a speedy replacement and found the HL-L6200DL. It's great! It may be even better than the 5470DW and it looks to be even more rugged (I hope!!).

It doesn't happen every time, but enough where I have to re-print quite often or either print on another non-Brother printer.

Love the deep paper tray and the illuminated LCD (this makes a real difference with the printer in a dark corner.

Most of what I print can be done in black and white and I'm hoping this printer will help me save money. My only issue is that it seems to jam more often than I expected. Perfect machine for black and white printing in an office environment. Having multiple machines of the same models makes toner cartridges and drum rollers interchangeable.

I now open the back for a more straight-through path and that has helped. But every so often, I’ll start getting creases for no apparent reason. I’ve tried different brands of paper and none of them have reduced creasing. Many other owners have this same issue. Brother can’t seem to fix it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very reasonably priced for what it does? First, these printers seem to offer the lowest cost of ownership in the ~500 page a day range that I could find. Second: We have 2 of these printers. One has never given any problems. The other one skewed paper and was promptly swapped out by Brother. The same one that was swapped out started making lines in every print out leading me to believe the drum was bad (they swapped out just the printer, not the drum and toner). Turned out to be low toner instead. The one star off is for no low toner warning and may have actually been the result of the printer exchange in warranty...but couldn't take 25% of a star off and it took 2 days of bad prints before we thought about trying different toner so there you go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality printer I've been a Microsoft 7 64 bit software user for quite a while and have been using an old HP laser printer which worked for quite a while but for some reason it just wouldn't be recognized and although I tried many of the fixes I found online, I just couldn't get it going. So I tried a new HP which in their description it should work (it didn't and then a Samsung (worked but couldn't print envelopes properly). So I found this Brother and it is working perfectly with no hassle at all. What a relief. I bought it from Staples with the entry size toner cartridge and it still is printing fine after many envelopes and documents. I'm very happy with it.

It is so quiet that I don't know it's there until a print request is sent, then it is still quiet compared to my old laser printer.

I am a tax preparer and the printer handles clients' copies cleanly and flawlessly. I would definiteley recomend this model to a medium size office. The high volume cartridge is also very helpful becuse one doesn't have to worry about running our of toner too often.

I had the previous model of the same machine and never had issues with printing from Tray 1 or the manual feeder. But I cannot use the MP Tray unless for every print job change the setting to Manual Feed. This model is not a good fit for office use. It is waste time everytime to change the settings for a print job.

The printer is installed on a wireless network and has not missed a beat. Installation was simple. Currently, there is absolutely no way to truly disable the sleep or deep sleep modes. I have done that, following instructions, clearly a bug rendering this unit worthless.

It is just an updated version of what we had previously with a noticeable increase in speed and higher paper capacity. If it lasts as long as the previous model, it will be a clear winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Brother Laser Printer About 18 months, I gave away my trusty Brother laser printer (12+ years old) and acquired another Brother printer because it had the duplex printing feature. However, it was fairly slow and I traded it in through an Office Depot offer for this much faster and larger paper capacity printer. It has speed, great resolution, and no paper jams (so far). My wife uses a wireless connection and I'm connected through Ethernet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and reliable printer This printer was easy to setup. It has also been a steady, reliable printer. I would highly recommend it. One con is that there is no paper stop on the back, so if you are printing out the back side, your paper will fall on the floor. Apparently, you had to buy a different model printer to get the paper stop, although Brother does not say which model. My work around is I print the envelopes through the same path as regular printing. It makes a slight curve in the envelope, but that is minor and does not last..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and sturdy Brother is a good printer and this one is excellent. The toners are expensive but if you try and use an off-label cartridge it will cause trouble. Most brother printers don't give you much notice when the toner is empty, and will sometimes just shut down. If it does, remove the cartridge, and shake it a little. That'll buy you some time until you can get a replacement. To avoid this, I keep a second cartridge at hand.

Ease of set up and love how fast it was to connect to WiFi. When bought on sale price is affordable. Love having the power control is on the top of the unit. Unit produces less noise than the HL-5470 printers.

Replaced with HL-6200DWT and once again not disappointed. Has great speed, as I print loans/escrow documents. Also have a Brother 9840CDW and its been great last 8 years. Will always recommend Brother. On the few occasions that I did run across setting issues, technical support is very helpful.

This new one is faster, more capable and just as strong. In my view, the HL-L6200DW is the best B&W laser printer on the market. I would not use anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor customer service, 90 day warranty on Drum. We purchased the Brother HL 6200DW for our HR dept only have had 6 months and the drum went out. Called Brother customer service and was told there is only a 90 day warranty. We will never purchase brother products again!

The printer automatically selects the proper size of paper and never misses a beat. It is by far the best printer I have ever owned. I go through a 10 ream case of paper every week. This printer prints every time I wake it up and send it a job. Zero down time in over a year. I really can’t say enough good things about the printer.

It is a bit taxing on the power at my apartment, but i do have really crappy wiring. This is more an informational blurb to say that very brief dimming of a places lights when the printer received the job from the computer/phone seems normal in domestic residences with power systems that havent been upgraded for decades. It works great, nevertheless. 5/5.
