First Impressions
Installed and setup easily. Fairly loud, louder than my last laser printer (HP 402dne), but way faster in print time. Only problem, unit wanted to upload new firmware, stalled at 30% and wouldn't finish. Brother tech support insisted that my 10' usb cable was too long, although it seems to print fine with it. Short story, was able to kill the firmware upgrade and after several restarts, it works fine.

Ghosting
There’s so many features that I love about this printer but the fact that it leaves ghosting on papers is a big negative. I use only brother ink and I have used multiple papers to see if it would fix the problem. Brother was wonderful and replaced my machine and it still doing it on the new printer. I have a 6200 that does the same thing. Very disappointing.

Really is a workhorse! Very reliable and fast!
I have owned every type of printer and this one is truly the easiest and best I have had to work with. I get no complaints from the staff which makes my life easier!

Fast!
I print loan documents with this printer. I purchased an optional 2nd drawer for legal pages. It is fast! Beautiful copies in seconds in both letter and legal size. Would purchase again.

Terrible printer
I have the machine 1 1/2 years. It worked well for the first year. Only problem was that it was extremely slow bring web pages. After the 1 year warranty expired problems began with wrinkled pages on both single sheet and duplex printing. I called the local service man who took the machine and thoroughly cleaned the machine. Finally he recommend that I get a new duplicator. After paying for and installing the part, the wrinkling problem continued. Time to toss the machine. Service people at Brother were unhelpful because i was 6 months out of warranty.

Solid Printer
Have about 20 of them, and not had a minutes problem. They print beautifully for most documents. They do print a little dark on photographs.

This printer is AWESOME
The HL-L6400DW re-defines the term workhorse. This thing prints SUPER fast (almost a page per second and the first page is usually out within 10 seconds. It has an extremely small footprint and hardly weighs anything, which makes it practically mobile if you find that you are relocating equipment frequently. It has an option for a huge (20,000 page) toner cartridge, which also saves us a ton of time. The built-in paper tray holds an entire ream of paper, which is also nice. The print languages and protocols supported by this printer have also made my life easier as a system administrator. Finally, the drivers that I used for Windows, MacOS, and Linux for our old printer (a Brother MFC-8890DW) worked out of the box for this new printer, so absolutely NO changes were required from a software/networking standpoint. Absolutely amazing. Thanks Brother for a job well done on this machine!

easy set up, fast printing, reliable printer
nice, and powerful printer, yet still keep in small size machine. very cheap per printing page cost, easy to set up in the wifi network, very fast printing, and reliable, i am very happy about this printer, my only complain is the right side of the paper tray has a paper quantity indicator that is not working. i called their tech support, they said it is not for paper quantity indicate. then what is this window use for?

Worst printer I have ever owned.
The single most buggy awful printer I have ever experienced. Sometimes it just starts printing complete nonsense, 100s of pages of nothing but numbers at a time. Other times, it says it is in an error state. Other times than that, we have paper loaded in the printer but the printer refuses to acknowledge there is paper in the tray. Had the printer for less than 6 months total and never ever had had this many issues printing anything. Will never buy from this company ever again. I would put 0 stars as my rating if I could.

Fast letter printing Jams with legal
Have had good luck with desktop Brother printers so thought I would try a more robust one for my larger jobs. The Tray feeding works great on letter sized paper but jams on legal sized paper. Forced to use the manual feeder which only holds 30 or so pages so I have to stand beside it to print a couple hundred pages.
There is a burning smell from the printer so we open the windows beside it when we have a bigger job. Not sure if the paper settings really make a difference. There is no preprinted forms selection which my other printers have. I tried several to see if the feeding worked better. If I only printed letter sized I would have given it 4 stars
