Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved money by purchasing vs. using commercial printer I wanted to have 1000 pages of colour promotional materials printed up for a trade show I was attending in mid-April. A local Copy and Print Centre quoted $519.75 for the printing and folding of these 1000 pages (2 double-sided documents of 250 copies each). After a moment's thought, I decided to purchase a new printer. My Brother MFC-J6510 has printed over 30,000 pages in the last 5.5 years, and still works well - just the colour quality isn't quite as sharp as it once was (works great on "best" but is quite slow to print that fine). Still, Brother is my top choice. Print quality and cost of ink replacements were two of my biggest considerations, but I also wanted to still have the ability to scan and print 11 x 17" documents. This printer's double-sided scan feature, and year's worth of ink in the box quickly sold me on this particular model. I printed approximately 1300 pages using my new printer within the first 24 hours. Factoring in the cost of the printer, paper and labels, I still saved nearly $100 by purchasing this product versus using a commerical printer. It literally paid for itself with its very first use!! Although this MFC's footprint is quite a bit beefier than my last, I am extremely impressed with the speed, print quality, and quietness of machine thus far! I would definitely recommend and would repurchase again.

The only disappointment so far is there is no tray for 11x17. 11x17 is fed from rear feeder which does not hold as much paper. I got this mainly for 11x17. I just don't like having to rely on the rear paper feeder when I have two trays. When I was searching for printers, I specifically searched for one with two trays assuming one would be 11x17.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Purchase! From the advertisement, I couldn't gauge the size. Upon arrival my wife and I were taken aback.Would have preferred a more compact machine. We kept it and started using it. From day one, it kept disconnecting the remote printing feature. Had to regularly reinstall the software. The fact that my wife and I only use the printer intermittently created another problem. Whenever we went to print, the quality was horrible. The text was so faded, one could hardly read it. To remedy the situation, we were required to run a head-cleaning process. Problem is that whenever we did this, the machine was consuming our supply of ink, which contradicted the promise of a long lasting ink supply based on the machine's technology. This was very frustrating, and led us to conclude that this was not a smart purchase. Wouldn't recommend it to friends and family.

Very fast, excellent print quality, journal size printing is needed at times, holds large amount of paper, ink lasting much longer than other printers I have owned but... The reason for only 3 of 5 stars is because it will not directly scan (using the printer's menu to a Windows 11 computer. After searching the Internet, it appears that I am not the only one with this problem. However, I have found a workaround. By plugging in a USB thumb drive into the printer's front USB slot (actually, I use an SSD card to USB adaptor) I can scan from the printer directly to the SSD chip to my heart's content. When finished scanning, I simply move the card to my computer and use the scanned pdf files from the chip.

I feel like I'm constantly having to clean the nozzles multiple times before I can actually print something worth anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute Garbage First one died after just 19 months of light usage. Service center said repair would cost as much as a new machine. Replaced under warranty and new machine died in just over a year. And to top it all off, replacement machines are only warranted for 30 days, EVEN IF THEY'RE BRAND NEW. So much for being "at your side." Clearly, Brother is both low-quality and unethical. Never again.

I find the software intuitive and uncluttered. Much faster scanning than my old HP. Only problem is I need another one and have been waiting for Brother to ship for months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer so Far We needed a new large format colour printer and this one was on sale at Staples. It makes good fast prints. The ink lasts for a long time and since the cartridges are clear one can see the amount of ink left in each. It also has 2 paper drawers so you can print 2 different formats without having to unload and reload paper. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to print double sided from a PDF file.

This paper size is important to our day to day work as we are builders and need this size for plans. To have the ability to scan and email this size from the office to subs and clients is a plus as well. The ability to also to print/ scan legal and letter means one printer not multiples.

The one connection "secret" that I wished I would have known about ahead of time would have been how to do a network reset to test configuration changes that I tried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty printer with only a few software quirks I spent about $100 more for this unit that I have for other units in the same class in the past, and I am very glad I did. This thing is built like a tank and has so many features, the duplex scan feature being one of my favorites. It scans both sides of a document at the same time and does it way faster than just probably any other unit in this class. The printing is fast and quiet. There are so many things to love about this printer. It is a big boy, but for what it does, I am learning to like the size. The only issue I have found so far is the behavior between ADF scan orientation and the platen: When I set up my customizations for ADF scanning so the scanned page orientation is correct, I get different orientation results in the scanned page when I scan using the platen. Not sure how to fix this yet. Otherwise, a killer product. This is an industrial-strength unit and is probably overkill for most home offices. But I'd rather have too much than the too little that I got with the Canon and Epson printers ostensibly in the same class. No comparison in my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best printer I have ever owned! I volunteer for a non-profit and must print checks, letters, and envelopes; not to mention scan a lot of items for archiving. I had an HP and I found myself changing paper all the time to fit the situation. The Brother printer has two paper bays and a manual feed, and it has made an enormous difference for me. I never have to change paper now; I just select the proper feed in the print dialog. The scanning feature is incredible as well. With my HP, I had to do manual two-sided scanning. The Brother printer scans both sides with one pass. This is an incredible time saving feature. I can’t say enough good things about the Brother printer. Please note, it is a large printer; so, plan accordingly.

Wireless operation is pretty good, but other than my first system to connect as a printer, all other PC's and Laptops see it as a scanner and I have not been able to find a way to change that. I have tabloid card stock in tray 2 and miss-feeds are very common. Often takes 3-4 tries to print 2 sheets. When it works the print is excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Improvements This latest addition to my hone office is actually a replacement for a previous Brother large format A-I-O machine which was almost exactly five years old. The old one in itself had replaced an even earlier version of the large format A-I-O. So I am quite familiar with Brother A-I-Os. Each generation has included improvements and the 6945 is well nigh perfect--at least so far. The redesign of the multi-purpose feed makes it much more usable--and handy. Now you can place the unit fairly close to a wall and easily use the MPF, which previously was not the case. Kudos to the designers!

When I ordered this one, it was supposed to arrive on a Monday by 10pm, but Sunday mornimg at 7:30am, I was awakened by it's delivery! I'll take an early arrival! The great thing was that I had the printer up & running well before business on Monday. Everything's been running great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great printer for small/medium business! This printer is great - there are very few out there with capabilities like this one! It can print AND Scan an 11 x 17! We have had it for about two months and have had no issues. The only thing that is a slight negative is how much the paper tray can hold. We do a lot of printing and it seems we're filling it up often. There is a second paper tray but I guess that actually gives more options on paper size as well. Overall - a great printer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features and good quality Printer worked first time out of the box for letter and ledger sizes. No problems loading software. Print quality as expected. Scanning works well but I haven't tried AF yet. Don't use fax so I can't comment. When I first started buying printers 20 years ago I steered away from Brother because the demo units in the stores were always broken but this time they worked in the store and I was impressed. I mostly bought HP but the way they force you to use a lot of expensive ink disgusts me and I doubt I will buy them again. So far Brother seems to be keeping their promise of good quality low cost printing.

The bottom tray can be extended to fit 11x17 paper so I have 8 1/2x11 in the top tray and 11x17 in the bottom. Make sure you have space as it is large (as one would expect from an all-in-one that handles 11x17). Got it set up quickly with Wifi and have not any had issues.

This printer fitted the bill and also has a lower running cost than most for ink cartridges. After 6 months of constant use the printer has performed perfectly and not a single jam or mis-feed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not for long term use I guess it's best described from my perspective as something I look at as a consumable rather than a durable product. The print quality was never on par with either past multi-function inkjets or my large format inkjet (from day one and based on past experience, anyway and it's now become unusable in 16 months... Printing is unreadable due to extreme banding, cleaning has only made print quality and readability worse (yes, worse) and not better. It's cheaper to replace than repair. I spent an hour running thru the cleaning dialog repeatedly when I absolutely, positively needed a document and the print quality declined with every effort throughout those cleaning cycles. I gave up and I sent the job to my large format printer of another manufacture... it had sat on standby for months, but it saved me and printed a beautiful document.

This printer holds these sizes in addition to letter with automatic feed for each. Having ledger scan capability is icing on the cake. All this adds to the inkvestment system for storing vast amounts of ink which makes for the "perfect" all-around small business all-in-one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for what we really needed So far so good. It's only been a few weeks since we purchased but it's worked well so far. Print speed is fine and the quality is good for it's printer type. Scanning function works well, but you may need to adjust your scan settings for text documents. Setting up the printer for WiFi was a bit tricky due to my Firewall, but once I was able to figure that out, setting up the printer to be WiFi print ready was fine. Instructions for that weren't the best though. This is a big printer though, so if you're space is limited, you may want to think twice about this printer. You have a lot of functions here, but it comes at the price of surface space. Overall, we've had two adults and one student all working from home during this quarantine, and we are very happy with this purchase so far.

But neither paper tray will "lock" into place for legal size paper; it just wants to either push forward to letter size or pull backward for 11x17 format. If it can be made to work, I'd probably love it, but I may be returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent features, but not quite hitting the nark The output quality is very good, more like a 4 star, but configuring and troubleshooting a definitely a 3. For example, I tried doing the emailing of docs to the printer, but it's confusing and I continuously receive a Recieving Error that has no details to help troubleshoot it (and an internet search for the error returns a lot of different ways to get this error. The printer is pretty quiet, but it is rather large. It also gives the appearance of being much older since the only available color was the off-white. The scan feature is good and produces nice images, but should offer additional and higher dpi. The surface area is nice and large. Admittedly, I haven't tried all the features, but the most important ones for me are the ones I've mentioned. Please don't think of me as some amateur user, I've been in IT for over 30 years and know how to troubleshoot hardware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hardware. Software and Tech Support Need Imp Great hardware with super features. It's a little larger due to full function 11 X 17 design and features. Software concept is good, but not mature enough for a novice user to set up unless they get lucky. I had an issue with WiFi connectivity and worked with Brother Support for hours without resolution. Finally sought help elsewhere and the issue was solved in less than a minute and one click in the router setup interface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from just one lacking feature I went from an epson wf 4540 that I used for almost 10 years and dearly loved. When I had this printer beside an epson wf 7722 I found that there was no comparison. I chose to keep the Brother because I was really impressed with it's print quality, and then discovered that I'm going to have to buy another printer so that I can print labels. I don't understand why Brother passed on that feature but it sure made me mad. I don't know if that would be something they could address with a software update, but oh well.

This printer has a lot of features which I like.The colors were vibrant on the photographs I printed out. It has three loading trees to choose from which is great to you this way standard paper and paper for photograph paper. The ink does take longer to dry than I would like and smeared a few times

The Brother all in one printer system I received so far seems to be an excellent product. Assembly was super easy; I generally have a difficult time installing ink cartridges but these ones were simple. I love that the printer came with a YEAR worth of ink. The printer functions perfectly, the colors are true and do not run. Some printers I`ve used leave weird random lines on the paper but this one does not do that at all. The copier is very nice and simple to use Overall the instructions are easy to follow when operating the machine. My only complaint (and not really even a complaint just observation) is that I was not anticipate needing how big the product would be. I had to actually buy a new stand for it as I had nowhere else it would fit in my house It`s too big to sit on top of a file cabinet, for instance. It`s also a bit heavy to lift. Overall I am VERY satisfied with this all in one machine and would certainly recommend it to others, especially anyone who has a home office setup as it saves space versus using several different pieces of equipment.

My only criticism is that the scanner does not create images as sharply as I would like them. It's possible I can adjust settings to resolve that issue. I've been a Canon user in the past. I'll never buy another Canon printer again.

I decided to go Inkjet for this one as my volume needs were not especially high and the ability to support larger format paper size was a relevant feature for my current needs. Inkjet is way quieter than laser, which I appreciate. The print quality was pretty impressive. Setting up the Direct WiFi connection was a little tricky, but got done. I also like the various management software options for printer and scan management. Overall, I think that this printer has great value and quality.

I've put it through its paces by scanning, copying,and receiving faxes. Everything has worked with no problem. The one thing I haven't tried yet, but I don't think it will be a problem is print a photo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value. When the iOS update on my Mac desktop upgraded itself to a 64-bit system, my trusty Canon all-in-one wouldn’t connect to the Mac. Since I used it for all functions and could no longer scan Or print, I started researching new printers, and this Brother model offered the most features for the price. My Only concern over in giving it five stars is minor; unless I’m missing something, there doesn’t seem to be a way to print a fax confirmation page. Other than that, it deserves all five stars. The software that comes with it is well designed. And another feature is the smart phone app, iPrint & Scan, that’s easy to navigate and use. The wireless printing feature is easy to set up (as long as your wireless computer, laptop or tablet are on the same network and works seamlessly. The printer/scanner/fax even lets users set up shortcut buttons on the printer screen and in the software to carry out repetitive printing, scanning and faxing chores. Overall, this is a good device with strong value. Although it’s a bit pricey, if you believe that you get what you pay for, you’ll get a good deal with this machine.

I thought I would never go back to an inkjet because of cost of consumables and frequency of replacing them. This printer is excellent in terms of print quality and cost of ink. I create technical drawings that I print in color at Tabloid size (11"x17" and the MFCJ6945DW prints them at professional quality.

Printed ok, but have an error "Scan Unable AF" which asks to have the machine switched of and on but that does not solve the problem. So we cannot copy or scan!! Really disappointing as this was bought during Prime Day on Amazon and the price will now be higher when I send it back and get a replacement! Brother pls get your act together. You can't be sending our faulty new machines to small businesses who cannot afford not to have a printer/copy/scanner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor print quality, poor control over orientation In the 3 weeks that I have had this unit, a replacement for my beloved MFCJ6920DW that died when the power button failed and the authorized Brother service folks couldn't fix it, I have wasted half a ream of paper because the 6945 copies in whatever orientation its wants to -- and it's never what I want. There is no manual control over, say, print in landscape or portrait. I copy from all sorts of manuscripts with varying sizes (which is why I need the 11" x 17" glass), and this wigs out the copier. (Speaking of manual, the one that comes with the machine tells you nothing except the initial setup in multiple languages. You have to, pun not intended, MANUALLY go through screen by screen to see what options may or may not do.) Even after finding and turning off deskew, it turns itself back on after a single copy. When it does copy, the print is so light that it is useless: I'm printing sheet music, and you can't see the lines -- especially if you use the "book" option! I've actually taken music to my studio where I use a tiny 6 year old Brother printer to copy music because I honestly do not know what I will get, what will happen when I push COPY on this thing. On the other hand, printing from a file seems to work fine as does scanning. However, the ridiculously poor copy function is enough that I am contemplating buying a refurbished 6920 if I can find one.

PLEASE never take this one off the market - unless you are upgrading a part of it! But ALWAYS have a ledger duplexing machine, and I will ALWAYS buy a Brother. I'm only on my 2nd one in a decade, but I'm expecting to need a new one in a year or two. This machine meets my ledger duplexing needs perfectly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inkjet Brother This printer does a great job on injet paper and a slowed down speed - however, if you want to print pictures fastly on plain paper, you must expect streaks- However, you can fool the printer into printing more slowly on plain paper by telling the program it's injet paper - the print will be great. Overall, I like the printer, but I wish more information was given when I purchased. Customer Service needs to be fixed though -not the best! Finally, I love the print job when it's slow.

I read reports that this series printer sometimes jams. Take care of the unit, keep it clean and unlikely will have jam issues

I can load all of these three paper sizes in the three provided trays and never have to keep changing paper sizes in other trays as I have had to do in the past. and the color?? AWESOME! I do have one problem though, I broke an ear off of the paper catcher on top. it works but I do need to replace this little tray peace. If you can let me know who I can contact to get this fixed, I would greatly appreciate it. Great Product Brother Peeps. Keep up the Good Work!

It was easy to set up, prints fast, and the double-sided scanning is fantastic. I do wish there were more documentation on the supplied software. My only complaint is the lack of ability to scan directly to PDF using the on-printer menu and iPrint&Scan app.

When I say "Real" - believe my painstaking research - only a few models have the double-sided scanner (and FAXing for that matter in this price range. Even if you come across this feature, some manufacturers 'forget' to say theirs is manual (you turn the pages, and the s/w will deal with it). Not with this model. And what a scanner it is! It scans both sides simultaneously, so you don't have to worry about the jams and reliability in the long run. Printing. With a ton of original cheap ink I don't worry printing a lot. That could be a gazillion of photos for a car accident report, or all the test results from my health history, etc. With 3 paper sources I've setup a tray for documents, a junk tray for casual draft printing, and a back tray for check printing. However, the paper formats are so versatile, that dedicated trays could be for Legal size and even larger ones including continues printing for big banners. Also, it perfectly handles the label sheets without separating stickers from the base. Fax is good, has many features for handling from itself and the computer. The S/W needs improvements. For some reason the original interface is primitive and is not necessarily intuitive. For more control I needed to setup another App 'Brother Utilities'. Say if you want to go more than 1200 dpi, you cannot do it in the original setup. The Utility will 'call' another .exe command to switch with your permission. Why can't they do everything in one place? So, now I have 3 icons for this printer. MFC-J6945DW is not small at all. Big footprint and the space above should be free for at least 2 feet. (The smaller version MFC-J5945DW was hard to come by). For the price this is the best choice for a truly A-I-O and mega-ink cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One annoying feature, onelarge problem I've had this just about a year, using it primarily to print large envelopes with postage, and occasional photo printing. The energy saving feature keeps turning the machine off, and I haven't found a way to deactivate it. Recently the print quality turned atrocious, and multiple head cleanings didn't solve the problem. Several dozen expensive 100% cotton envelopes later, after about the 15th cleaning using tons of ink and shopping for new printers, it seems to be printing normally again. Whatever happened to replaceable print heads?

First, there aren't many printers available that scan and print ledger size for a desktop unit. More importantly, this unit easily prints twice as fast as my prior Brother which I found very capable. Basically, Brother did what companies should do and that is make their products better through time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would give 0 stars if possible we have gone through 2 of this model now. the first was purchased 11/19 and broke 3/20 and that one never printed or scanned properly, and documents got stuck in the feeder. This 2nd one was finally received one's feeder tray just broke when I opened it (for the 20th time this week after it kept jamming. when the first one broke, they refused to send us a new one since more than 30 days had passed, and instead sent a refurbished one. out of our 4 laptops (3 on windows 10 and one on windows 7), only 2 have ever succeeded in scanning to this new machine with all the settings the same. It's just a piece of junk! Now after another 2 hrs on the phone we are getting yet another refurbished machine that I am sure will work just as well as the first two. VERY disappointed!!

However, all of your labeling in Tray 1 is confusing: I had to lookup most of your designations, like A5, B4, B5, B6, etc. For example, I had to experiment to find out that the common No. 10 envelope is shown as Com-10. Also, according to the description on your website, I could not print a 5x7 or 8x10 photo. I only found out that I could print those sizes and larger because I called Brother, and I was assured that those sizes could indeed be printed. I almost didn't buy the printer because of those omissions in your website description. Also, your automatic ink shipping process was not explained to my satisfaction. I signed up for ink-shipping almost immediately because a salesman told me that the initial ink cartridges had a minimal amount of ink and would have to be replaced after printing a few dozen sheets. But when I called up Brother I was told that, no, they would probably last for possibly a year. So I paid for ink I would not be getting for many months, but I was given no information on the ink-shipping process. However, most, if not all, of my complaints, are because of lack of clarity or explanation in your descriptions. Otherwise, so far, I'm well satisffied with the printer

The document feeder also handles 11x17 and is a really useful one...does not misfeed on wrinkled pages or pages that were previously stapled. 2-sided printing, copying, and scanning. The only downside is it lacks an email link so I can send documents from remote locations to be printed at my office.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good SOHO class large-format printer So far, so good, after about a month of light usage. I bought this printer to replace two very old printers -- one inkjet photo AIO printer and one monochrome laser. Both still worked except the scanner on the inkjet stopped talking to my PC. The biggest issue was there were no Mac 64-bit drivers for the old inkjet, they didn't support mobile printing, and I don't need photo quality prints anymore. I also wanted to consolidate to a single printer, and the large-format Ledger size was a plus for some projects. I looked at color laser but couldn't justify the consumable expense. This printer filled in the gaps. It's plenty fast for me, print quality is good for business documents (but not nearly the photo quality of my old inkjet, consumables are reasonable, it's fully duplex on all functions, wireless mobile printing support, and I love the multiple trays and ledger size support not only for printing, but for scanning/copying as well. Drawbacks would be size (it's a beast!), mediocre color image quality, and the fact that the multi-format tray isn't automatically selected when loaded (or at least I've not figured out how to do that yet) which requires me to use the System Print dialog because Chrome's print controls don't allow tray control. Overall I consider it a positive experience and good purchase. Would recommend if you have similar needs to mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse Amazing machine. Definitely medium-office size and quality, although I found some of the plastic to be a little on the skimpy side. Takes a bit of use to get familiar with the unusual (to me 90° rotated paper tray, but no big deal. Scanning through the ADF is smooth and easy, as is the glass scan, although the lid is fairly heavy and awkward to open, but this need be done only for special items, I might reserve my smaller scanners for receipts and photos. Software a bit different from my years of HP design, but not a bother to learn. If it truly has a year's worth of ink in the box, that's major right there- remains to be seen, as does the cost of a new tank or estimated cost per copy. All in all this is about the most industrial printer I have owned for home use, and I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True Multi-function This is a substantial printer in many ways. I create architectural drawings which are large and expensive to print on our HP plotters. I wanted something that could print tabloid (11"x17" - which is 2x8.5x11 letter sized pages side by side) in order to have a means of generating quick previews of the larger drawings which we could use for bidding purposes. I currently have a project with 30+ pages of construction drawings in large format. The printing cost is substantial. I'm able to generate tabloid sized previews at a fraction of the cost, allowing me to effortlessly send the project out for bidding/review and also greatly reducing the cost of revisions and reprinting. Boom. My wife prints photos from her phone. We have high quality photo paper in tray1. My tabloid sized sheets in tray2, and regular letter sized paper in the multipurpose tray for general printing and faxes/scans. It all works extremely well. The printer is heavy and is used daily. This is a piece of office furniture, this is not a lightweight inkjet sitting on a shelf somewhere. The old saying is "You get what you pay for". That one never chose from the paper trays properly and the software never worked and ultimately it was exchanged because it kept jamming. The second one we received a month ago, and we still cant get scanning software to work, as it keeps freezing then cant find the printer OR scanner and then both the printer and scanner softwares have to be completely reinstalled. It too chooses paper from the MP tray instead of tray 1, 75% of the time. But at least it will pull from tray 2 when tray 1 runs out. The old one didnt do that. I'm ready for another HP at this point.

It has exceeded my expectations for a home printer. The printing quality is very good. I love having home access to easy scanning and copying. My favorite feature is that I can print directly from my phone. I frequently save recipes and articles to my phone, but then find it cumbersome to get the items to my desktop for printing. This printer saves me that step and is a game changer!This printer comes with a years worth of ink. This estimate is based on printing 300 pages a month, which I won`t do, which means that I won`t have to replace the ink for even longer. Replacing printer ink can be a hassle, is expensive and can be hard on the environment. I`m pleased that I`m set for a long while. I would not call myself tech savvy. I was able to set up the printer, connect it to our wireless and desk top and download the app to my phone without any issues. It was a relief to know that support was easily accessed if needed. There were numerous references to Brother help and support if I had needed. One thing that I`d mention, is that potential buyers should pay attention to the size of the printer before purchasing. It is about four times the size of my previous Brother home printer. I needed help getting the printer upstairs and it will not fit in the spot where we kept our other printer.Overall, I`m thrilled with this home printer. I am thrilled about all of its many functions and pleased that I won`t have to spend time and money going somewhere else for my scanning and copying needs.

I get a lot of 10+ page faxes and this machine does a lot of buzzing, clunking and werling before it starts to print, then the print speed is slow and finishes with more buzzing, clunking and werling.

I needed a new printer to keep up with the demands of my home office. This printer arrived with a sheet of startup instructions. Setup was easy as the touchscreen display walked me through along with the instruction sheet. I`ve used inkjet printers in the past and was always disappointed with slow printing. However, this printer is lightening fast and much quieter. It doesn`t shake while printing. The printer is very solid and has multiple paper trays. There are many options for print sizes - including letter, A4, legal and photos. I was pleasantly surprised by this printers ability to print for up to one year without changing ink cartridges; which can be costly. The only drawback is how large it is. It is quite massive, but prints like a champ. I`m very satisfied with the performance of this printer and look forward to not spending so much on ink cartridges.

The double sided reading and printing was important for me. I often use the the wireless printing from my phone. The printer worked flawlessly for 11 months until I had a paper jam. It continued to jam even after following the instructions from the screen, the internet and from a customer service chat. After calling Brother directly they sent a replacement within the week and I am back up and operational again. I was fortunate that it occurred while still within the Brother 1 year warranty and that they stood behind their product.

Also... not even close on ink consumption. We have about 7 people using from different stations. The speed is good. We have smaller Brother units that print better.

My first impression when this was delivered, "this is big!". I didn`t like that it was delivered on its original box. With all the porch packages thieves around, they could of easily spotted this giant box of a fancy printer. However, the thief needs to be strong and big and fast to be able to carry this thing off quickly.Again, this is a big printer. If you have a small office, consider first where you are going to put this. If you are upgrading from a usual home printers, know that you are not be able to put this in the same spot. I am extremely happy and impressed by this printer. Pretty much everything that you need in a printer. In a very affordable price. Set up was easy. I love the feature where it lets you know the level of ink for each cartridge and also the level of paper in each tray. It has two paper trays. And did I mention, it came with a year worth of ink! You are not going to worry of running out and gives you a heads up when you will need it. There is nothing to not like in this multi-function printer/scanner. Prints are good and it is fast. I am very easy to please person and I am very impressed with all the things this printer can do.This is our second brother printer. There is no going back to HP.

I am really happy with this printer. The print quality is excellent. I print a lot of color handouts and brochures and the color printing on this machine is top notch, although a tad slow. The quality and detail of my color prints are the best I have seen from a home office/small business printer. I love that it features the longer life print cartridges (up to a year printing. This is probably my favorite feature, as I can`t tell you how many times in the past I would be in the middle of a large printer job only to run out of ink in the middle of printing. It will also help to keep my costs of printing down. The wifi setup was seamless and has an available mobile app which allows you monitor the ink levels prior to submitting a large file for print. I have been able to easily print from my Iphone. The document feeder works well and makes scanning larger documents a breeze. Overall, this printer has all of the features I need to run my small business more efficiently. Very happy with this product!

I was excited to receive this printer to review. I thought, "Awesome! A brand new all-in-one to replace my six year old model! Surely it will be sharper, more compact, and better than mine." I was wrong. I am crushed to say this printer, the Brother MFC-J6945DW Inkjet printer, was really disappointing. Its print quality was weak. The pages I printed, both text and images, color and black & white, were soft-- fuzzy-- and were obviously printed on an inkjet. By contrast, my six year old inkjet prints crisp, clean text and pictures, to the point that I can`t discern that they were made on an inkjet. The photos I printed on this new Brother came out similarly unimpressive (and slowly, at that). They looked like they`d been printed on a home printer vs. professionally printed at a shop. My old printer makes nicer prints. Those two basic comparisons turned me off to this printer. Don`t get me wrong; it is a work horse. This printer will keep printing for almost a year with its long-lasting ink. There are two large paper trays and an additional paper loading tray at the back of the machine. I had no problem with its scanning capability and in fact, another good thing I`ll say about the Brother MFC-J6945DW is how large its scanning/copying field (the glass where you lay your things to copy) is. Alas, this is too big for my home office needs-- and in fact the entire printer looks like a dinosaur in size compared with other new multi-function printers I`ve checked out. It`s too big to be seamlessly incorporated into my home office, another big disappointment for me. For outstanding quality, I might be persuaded to make room. But for less than stellar output, I will keep looking. If moderate print quality but high capacity is in line with what you`re looking for, this printer may be the one for you. If you`re looking for something a bit sleeker with sharp print quality, keep looking.

The auto-duplex function jammed first time, and then every time. I can see the sheet pulled back in asymmetrically exactly the same way each time, causing the jam each time. I spent a LOT of time looking for help for this specific problem online, with no result. And I see no way to contact Brother support directly. Hence this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardware is SO close to perfect...but that app Moving up from the MFC-J6910DW, I see many welcome improvements, with the most obvious being the MultiPurpose tray holding a stack of paper, rather than being limited to a single sheet. The appearance of the lower paper tray (tray #2) when loaded with Ledger-size paper (11x17) is much cleaner than the older system, and having the trays accept letter-size paper at a 90-degree angle helps, as it means reconfiguration of the tray in only one dimension when switching between letter and ledger. The TWAIN driver works perfectly with FileCenter. The only thing preventing a 5-star review is that the iPrint&Scan software is *still* a 32-bit application, with the inherent memory limitations. Attempting to scan an 11x17 color image at 1200dpi gives a "Memory full-cannot continue" error message. For these cases, I use the PreScan option and then perform partial scans of the page to combine.

So when I needed another tabloid 11” x 17” printer I did my research again and no surprise Brother was the answer again with this model. It does everything with an 11” x 17” size paper that it can do with letter and legal. Prints nice color at good ink price. Does single or double sided prints, copies, and scans. Or you can scan on the flat glass for items that cannot go thru a feeder. It has two trays for any size paper, and a back manual feed slot. It is WiFi, network, or USB. Has a nicer color touch control panel. And the software is great. I print a lot of 11x17 plans, mark notes all over them in red or pencil, and then I can adjust the scan settings and save the settings so the scan looks good and the file size is smaller. It’s also a good photo printer for the kids. The best thing is it never breaks. Rare malfunction that is easy to clear following on screen prompts. On my old model Brother still updates software long after warranty is up and product is no longer sold. It is super easy to print and scan from smart phones also. Brother is my go to brand now thanks to these two large format printers.

I teach infant and toddler music classes, and part of my job responsibility includes printing and copying out music sheets for the parents. The printer and copier in my home office gets a lot of use every week, and plays a vital role in my weekly preparations.When I received the Brother MFC-J6945DW InkJet for my office, I was very excited to try it out! I appreciated that it has everything I need in one unit: printer, copier, scanner, and fax.ASSEMBLY: The Brother MFC-J6945DW InkJet comes fully assembled in its box. The box and its contents are quite heavy, so it`s probably best to have two people take it out of the box.SET-UP: Setting up the printer was intuitive, and the included instructions were comprehensive. From taking it out of the box to being fully functional and ready to go took approximately thirty minutes. This includes connecting it to WiFi, installing the ink toners, and downloading the software to your computer.PROBLEMS: While I personally have had no issues with the printer, some might find downloading the software and updating the drivers cumbersome. It also adds additional programs to your computer (specifically for scanning, which some customers may not want to use.Additionally, the copier is not automatically set up for legal size paper. You will have to manually adjust it to fit most standard printer paper.USE: I found the Brother MFC-J6945DW InkJet to be very easy to use! The touchscreen is responsive and intuitive. It is great having two (2 paper trays (meand you don't waste time swapping out paper and having to readjust the tray each time) AND a manual feed in the rear (allows the use of other types of media - envelopes, photo paper, other specialty papers, etc.). I also like the fact that this unit holds a lot of ink. I was very tired of having to constantly purchase ink. I am very satisified with its capability and performance at this point in time. Time will tell on its durability but it is a beefy printer so I imagine it will last a while. I highly recommend this product to those who need the larger format paper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good everyday printing but not photos or checks I purchased this printer because it has the capability to print and scan 11 x 17", has the larger ink reservoirs and has the two trays and manual feeder. I have previously had HP printers for years but they didn't have one that is a desktop and can do 11" x 17" that has any great reviews at the time I purchased this, my first, Brother printer. For everyday printing it works fine. However, what I have found is that the scanning doesn't always end up with straight copies, the copies are not as crisp as the original and the photos are not as good as they should be. Beyond that is the issue printing checks. To print checks you must use the manual feeder (unless you happen to be printing a full sheet. Normally for any partial checks I would use a leader form that the checks would be attached to and run through the printer in the portrait orientation so that the printer grabs the top of the leader form that folds over the top of the checks. Unfortunately this printer wants you to print all forms in landscape orientation and from the manual tray and it "eats" the leader form and won't allow the checks to be printed. You cannot change the orientation of the checks to have them print portrait vs landscape. If you want to print 1 or 2 checks, you have to measure the check(s) and make a paper size within the printers options and basically name them "One Check" and "Two Checks" and use them instead. So for every set of checks you are going to print, you will need to change the printer settings accordingly. To make matters worse, when you print three checks to a page you put them in the manual feeder one direction and if it's only one or two checks you have to feed them in the opposite direction or they will print upside down. I have spoken with Customer Service several times and they have not been able to come up with any other solution. I would think that a large company like Brother would be able to come up with a better design than this.

I have used this product for over a week now and I can truly tell everyone that it is amazing. I have used the printer which prints out every detail of what I`m printing so clear and I have 4 colors that goes with it. I have used the scanner and then turned around and copied items that I`ve needed to copy and couldn`t until now. Everything that I have done with this machine has been trouble free. I haven`t had any problems doing anything I`ve needed to do.Set up was so very easy to do. I set everything up and had it running in less than 1 hour. I didn`t have any problems at all. Anyone can do it.I have been telling everyone I know about the Brother Inkjet that I received. I highly recommend to anyone that wants a high quality product to buy this one.

But, I'm a little disappointed in the scanner (a significant reason for choosing this model). The OCR functionality would not work and Support's solution was to have me download Nuance PaperPort to use rather than ControlCenter4. But that did not work either. I also have not figured out how to make the scanner automatically choose the paper size. Make sure you realize that this printer is HUGE and heavy. But that's the price for tabloid printing and scanning.

While I appreciate your solution, it has little to do with the issue. Reinstalling the drivers is like telling a user to reboot to make the problem go away. I say this because the error (which comes and goes repeatedly appears on the printer's screen, not my computer. In fact, my computer has nothing spooling to the printer and is completely shutdown, so I doubt the issue is the driver. I should also mention that anything I printer from my computer prints fine.

Paper feed is very loud and #1 or top tray makes a very loud clicking when feeding paper. #2 or bottom feed is not so bad. Top cover to copy or scan bed is quite heavy making it easy to drop when closing.

I needed a new printer for my home office and this Brother prints seems to have all the bells and whistles. I primarily use the printer to print, scan, and make copies. This printer performs just as well as any printer I`ve used in an office/copy center, but in a compact size that is perfect for my home office. It`s nice that it comes with a years worth of ink.Overall, it was easy to assemble and the Quick Start guide was clear. I had the printer up and running very quickly. It is easy to print from both my computer and my phone. The touchscreen on the printer has many options, but takes a little getting used to as it`s not as intuitive.My only complaint is when I printed address labels, the ink smeared a bit on a few of the labels. I`m not sure if it is because it`s an inkjet (versus laser), or due to my ink settings. It could be user error, but I couldn`t find a quick, easy way to fix the settings. The ink never smeared on regular paper though! It prints perfectly on regular letter paper.I have to say I love the size of this printer. It fits perfectly in the corner of my office on a low bookshelf. My favorite feature is how fast it scans document to my computer. The scanning and copy functions are efficient, easy to use, and much faster than my old printer.Based on the price point, this printer is a great option for those looking for a multi function printer for their home office. I know I`ll get a lot of use out of it.

There is also downside with the settings having to be adjusted in order for "yellow highlight" to be displayed on Color Scan. Even after adjustment, color appears as more orange than yellow. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value in a very capable printer The MFC-J6945DW is an awesome small office printer, with large format capability I have long wanted but avoided the cost for. In terms of print speed, the first page out beats every laser printer I have ever owned. While larger jobs don't beat my lasers, I have realized most of what I print on a day to day basis is only a page or two in length, so by and large this is a time saver. It's also many times fasted than any inkjet I have used. Text looks great, and even photos are good; especially for a printer that doesn't claim to be a photo printer in the first place. The tabloid size print, scan and copy capability is fantastic. I am a facility planner, and can now print draft floor plans at scale without fussing with the plotter. If I want to be picky. The large machine size was a bit hard to located in my "full" office; but that was expected with the tabloid capability. And really fine line widths are wider than a decent laser achieves; but I am more likely to be sending PDFs of those graphic files than mailing a paper copy. All and all this is the best value printer, let alone MFP, that I have ever owned.

All in all this machine is so user friendly that set up and use were literally a breeze.Set up: You`ll find the quick start guide on top of the machine as soon as you open the box and from there following the set up steps were so easy the machine practically set itself up. After manually placing the ink cartridges in their designated slots the LCD screen prompts you through the rest of the set up from placing the paper in all 3 trays to the time/date input. The only time I ran into trouble was connecting my cell phone to the printer and the problem was user error. The phone needs to be on your Wi-Fi network and not on your carrier network. This was clearly stated in the set up guide but I didn`t realize it until I went to the trouble shooting guide and once there the answer was so easy to find. After I was all connected I got busy printing. Use:This machine is great and so easy to use. It does so much as a multifunction machine that I can handle All of my print/copy/scan/fax needs right from my home office. The only option I have not yet been able to utilize is printing photo`s. I attempted to print on regular letter paper but the machine recognized that I was not using glossy paper and prompted me to change the paper. Quality: For as fabulous as this machine is I feel that the crispness of the color is lacking a little. I just don`t feel like it pops the way it should. I don`t want to use the word dull but I feel it could be a little more sharp. If I had something like a presentation to prepare I might have it printed somewhere else. Although it may just be a matter of settings that I have not adjusted properly.Overall:The ease of use of this product shoots it up to an easy 4 stars and of I could get a little sharper print it would be a 5 hands down. The look of machine is very professional and the quality is outstanding. In my opinion you are definitely going to get your money`s worth from this product, especially if you have a home office with many printing needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The swiss army knife of printers I bought this to replace an earlier version, which broke after 13 years. I does everything well, and has addressed all the weaknesses of my earlier model. I got it as it has full 11 x 17" capability in paper handling for printing, and scanning including the ADF. The addition of auto duplexing, manual sheet feed for labels etc. and ink tanks make it fully capable for all my needs. The cons: It's big and heavy. The print quality is not as good as some other brands, but is perfectly acceptable to share with clients. I haven't needed to do any large print runs yet (500+pages, so I don't know how quick it will be with that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works good, does 11x17 printing and scanning This does everything my other MFC series printers did, they are the best 11x17 printers that I can find for a reasonable price, the only thing I really hate ...... and I mean hate is the printer ink cost, there is really no good reason the ink should be this costly and now they have the ink cartridges that have chips on them so you really can't use the after-market ink and expect it to work properly. Over all I am happy with the printer but very dissatisfied with the cost of the ink! The reason for 3 stars is because I seem to be buying one of these printers about every 2 to 2 1/2 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very disappointed... Too much money to operate so poorly. My MFCJ4710DW served me well and looks like I'm going to have to go to the basement and pull it out of moth balls. I chose this because the MFCJ4710DW performed so well. The document feeder on the MFC6945DW is absolutely lousy. I've tried a number of way and configurations to get it to do a duplex document feed. No matter how I load the paper in the feeder the print is skewed and I can't read the entire document because the print is off the page, no matter how I load it. Then the "example" picture on the doc feeder is absolutely wrong and placing the paper that way only copy half. I purchased it from Walmart and wanted my money back but all I could get is a replacement. Blah, I might just leave it in the box and sell it on eBay but the thing is so heavy. What a waist. Also Brother support is supportless, none nada. Never again brother!

This is a mini beast, a wonderfully made one from what we`ve experienced the last couple of weeks, but bigger than I was picturing. For a small business/home office, this is perfect, especially if you have multiple users needs as it covers from basic copying/printing, to printing 11"x17" brochures, envelopes, checks(I haven`t tried that yet though, and photos. The initial set-up was extremely easy, I think I did it around 30 minutes. I set up with my wifi network and have printed from a laptop, Chromebook, Android phone, and my teenager has printed from her iPhone and Ipad. I used the NFC feature to print from my phone and my teen used AirPrint and it worked seamlessly. I love how much paper it holds, I know that doesn`t sound like a game changer, but with a family printing and business needs, it has saved time. For our needs, the color quality of the prints meets our expectations. We have not used it on glossy paper, so I can not say anything to that. I think it prints quietly and much quicker than our last printer, we have had minimal smearing of the ink and it was only on a heavy color print and we didn`t allow a little extra dry time before removing. The automatic feeder is able to take a nice chunk of paper at a time, I`m not sure what the exact amount is that it will hold. I`m excited to try a few other jobs with the printer and not worrying about the ink running out midway is a nice change. Besides for the size is a little bigger than I planned for, it has been a champ in our home and we feel it will continue to work for our needs.

First time using a Brother printer, but after installation and initial use, I`m very impressed with the MFC-J6945DW. This printer has a lot of flexibility with the ability to copy,scan and fax. Easy setup I/We appreciate the wireless capability also compatible with IOS and Android devices!! AMAZING printer designed for small businesses with college/high school students in the household, this Brother printer exceeds my expectations! Highly recommended!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Revision 3rd Party OCR issues I gave this machine a pretty rough review a while ago and I have to revise it if I can. I was using VUE Scan and had multiple issues with duplex scanning/copying skewed print. Well to my surprise it turns out not to be the machine. I downloaded Brother iPrint&Scan and to my surprise and delight everything works fine. I had to manually enter the IP address in order select the printer that's connected to my home network, which is not a problem. Once setup and identified by iPrint&Scan everything prints/scans/copies perfectly. AWESOME!!! Also I said some pretty rough things about the lack of support, well I was wrong there because I was contacted by Brother support in short order. I'm very happy

The ink is lasting very long - which is also something I liked about my previous Brother printer (which after 6 years with me is still in use at my son's house. Printing is quick. Overall, I am very pleased with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good! I purchased this MFC-J6945DW because I need a printer that can both print AND scan 11x17 size documents in color. It was purchased to replace an older version of Brother's Large Platform printers that recently began having troubles with needing to clean itself several times with each ink cartridge change and then I'd be almost out of ink before I could print anything... the former printer was 5 years old and saw light use, so that was a little disappointing that it failed after 5 years. Anyway, on to this printer! This printer is faster to print and to scan than my former printer and it does a really nice job working from the document feed tray - this continues to be a strength compared to other printers that I used that had problems feeding documents well. I also really liked that I could arrange the 8x11.5 and 11x17 trays as I wanted to - on the older version I was forced to arrange them in one particular way so that it would auto feed the proper size. The print quality and scan quality seem to be very good with this printer, note that I'm not printing photos - just color documents. I haven't printed enough to use up the supplied ink yet, so no comments on ink use or replacement costs yet.... Overall I'm very happy with the J6945DW and hope to be so for many years. It does exactly what I need it to do!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I wanted I haven't tested every function yet, but this appears to be the printer I was looking for. Handles 11 x 17 format printing and scanning as well as standard 8.5 x 11 letter size. Before I had two printers -- one for ledger format and one for letter. Both in one unit is a plus. Time will tell on ink usage -- Brother claims one year worth of ink come with unit. We will see about that -- if so, wow!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets the job done So far, I'm very happy with the printer. The bonus is being able to print 11x17 posters for the office. It was a much more economical alternative to farming out our small quantity printing and there's no wait for printing to be delivered, etc. It's a larger machine, so space a reasonable amount of space is needed. So, keep that in mind.
