Great features, would be better w/ half-cut option
Tried the PTE550W and found the chain/half-cut option very useful. Can this feature be enabled on the PTE500 please?

Very disappointed...
Purchased printer primarily to print on heat shrink, boy was that a mistake! Up front, this printer seems to be a good value, competitively priced with reasonable cartridges. What Brother does not tell you is that every time you print a heat shrink label, the printer will dispense almost AN INCH of material (waste) before it prints what you have asked it to. I contacted Brother thinking that perhaps I had a setting wrong, I thought, surely I have a margin off or something. Brother's response was "The printer is programmed to do that and it is not a setting that you can change". They claim that in order for the printer to work properly, it has to do this. I now have a desk full of wasted 1" pieces of heat shrink! The waste was so bad that we were forced to pay next day air charges to order in another heat shrink cartridge to finish one tiny project! I returned the printer and went with another brand...very disappointed in this product. P.S. this printer does have an integrated cutter, but it does not work on heat shrink. According to Brother, you must disable the cutter when using heat shrink cartridges.

Good for the price
We ordered this printer with the intent of using it often. After a year of constant use, it is still doing great work. Cartridges are fairly affordable. There are tons of formatting options and it handles various sizes of tape. The one down-side is that there is a fair amount of waste before and after the printing. If you want the tape roughly the same size as what you print, you end up cutting off an inch on either end. That's the only down-side we've found.
