Stopped setup, installed SSD drive copied original drive to it rebooted, from then on everything was fast.Will buy more Crucial MX500 to replace slow drives in newer computers.

The only replacement offered by Apple (at the store) was a SATA drive. This SSD drive was the same size and slightly less cost than the SATA drive, because Apple was also going to install it. One word of warning, you need to purchase a hard drive that is compatible with the components of your computer and Apple is constantly changing them. It was so easy to purchase the correct hard drive on Crucial. Once Apple confirmed the build (Macbook Pro 13, 2012) was able to select it from the menu. We installed the hard drive ourselves (how to video on YouTube) , then had Apple install the OS, and luckily we had backupped just a week before it crashed. That is the one takeaway - back up your hard drive at least monthly if not weekly to an external drive - they are so cheap now. The computer is so much faster with this SSD drive. My son composes music and he tells me it takes 5 seconds to write something to the drive that previously took over a minute. So all you people with Macbook Pros with SATA drives have to consider upgrading to this SSD drive.

Needed to buy the SATA to USB adapter to do the data transfer, which worked extremely well. Machine now runs super fast, boots in a 1/4 of the time (less than 10 secs) (Windows 10)

Rated 5 out of 5 byNC143DAD from Planning to upgrade with more unitsFirst of all, the price is the best you can find for this fairly new technology; fast shipping, plenty of support, but you have to search out some things you might need. Is not crystal clear in the literature, but the cloning software is downloaded from another site. The software, once you find it, is comprehensive and almost foolproof, but again, for a fairly major hardware replacement like this, take your time to work with it. "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast." Firmware update is great. Bottom line? Older computers will have new life for many more years. If you like what you have and want to keep a familiar footprint, this is about as good as you could hope for.

I had never changed a drive before but, with the help of the Crucial people and Youtube, we got it done. My only suggestion is for Crucial to suggest the size of the screwdrivers required. I had to go to an electronics store and use their tools.Regardless, I am very happy with this purchase. Saved me from buying a refurb or new.
