Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent 4K Projector in the Classroom We hung this projector from a private school classroom wall (Ceiling Mount Style in a classroom with windows on two sides and a standard screen with a reflectivity rating of 1.0 and are impressed with the brightness and laser sharp 4K resolution of the video and images and the superb audio quality as well. We had first miscalculated the throw distance drop based on a throw calculator but the site that we used has been corrected. A 96 inch width gives about a 16 inch drop. So check this calculation from your throw calculator if you use one. Our original one incorrectly stated 5 inch drop. The firmware updates installed with out us needed any technical assistance and a general user or teacher will be able to allow updates in the future. The projector allows Apps to be installed and we have been directly using the Ted Talks app, NetFlix, and Hulu apps, from the projector, as well as a PC connected through HDMI, with no issues. Screen motion is smooth and not jerky. We also have attached teachers computers over 50FT away using a powered HDMI 2.0 cable. A 50FT ultra cheap 1.0 HDMI cable didn't work well as expected. The HDMI 2.0 cable in the box works well with 0 issues. The audio from this unit is excellent and can boom through the classroom to all corners. The dynamic range of the sound is excellent! Connecting the cables and mounting the projector worked as expected with the exception of our one miscalculation on the drop. We think that having a 4K laser projector in a classroom with superb sound and all of these features at this price is disruptive to the market!!! We love the ability of this unit to update its firmware and look forward to additional capabilities!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful picture and easy to set up! We live in a century home and due to the set up of the room, landed on the need to look at an ultra short throw projector. After a lot of research, we landed on the CinemaX P1 and are very happy with out decision. Easy to set up, beautiful picture and great sound from the speaker. Would highly recommend based on out initial experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breathtaking Projector I've been using projectors for home entertainment purposes for the past 10 years and own several. I recently set up the Optoma CinemaX P1 and absolutely love it! The picture quality is breathtaking, and any content you watch in 4K is unbelievable in terms of clarity, color, and contrast. I also purchased a 120 inch CLR UST screen, which helps increase contrast even more. The Optoma SmartFit App is key and incredibly useful. It allows you to perfectly frame the image on the screen and after a little adjustment I was able to perfectly calibrate the projection image. Everyone I've shown the projector to is incredibly impressed! The main advantage of having an UST projector is that you can set it up in smaller rooms with a large projection screen. In addition, you can stand in front of the screen without casting shadows. It truly is a replacement for a big screen TV and the image is bright and vivid even during the day. The color and contrast of the image, in my opinion, is better than a standard LCD projector can produce. While I've set up a sound system to complement the projector, the projector's internal speaker is excellent and can be used for stand alone audio if needed. Sharpness is also right on and you can make small incremental adjustments to the focus using the provided remote control. Image motion is also excellent as it's very sharp and does not blur the frames, even during fast moving action sequences. Video games also look great with very little lag time. Moreover, the projector connects to the internet so you can update the firmware if needed and download apps. All in all, I couldn't be happier with the projector! It's so much more fun to watch movies on a big screen and the Optoma CinemaX P1 truly delivers when it comes to incredible imagery, ease of use, and simple maintenance. I highly recommended this projector to anyone looking for a big screen experience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Ultra Short Throw Projector! A+ Tech Support I bought this projector in late December for my home theater. I ordered the projector first to determine the size of the image that will fit on my wall. I was happy that a 120" image was possible. (My home theater does not have windows.) After consultation with Optoma’s easily accessible Tech Support, I spoke to Elite Screens. I settled on a Gray (not White or ALR) screen and proceeded to order a CineyGrey Elite Screen Aeon 120” projector screen. I had difficulties with the screen order but the issues were resolved and the screen was installed successfully. I did not need to use Optoma’s SmartFIT app. I was able to get the image corrected easily from the settings menu and leveling the 2 back feet. My first test came through an Apple TV 4K. I used Amazon Prime Video and loaded The Boys! All I was able to say was Wow! TV+ Morning Show looked amazing. I haven’t purchased an UltraHD Blu-ray player yet. I went to my trusty Xbox One S, set it to 4K, and tested Sicario: Day of Soldado and Baby Driver. Both were UHD discs and looked rich and amazingly big. No issues with black levels - better than my old 55" Samsung LED TV. I saw many question performance of games. I haven’t done much yet but I did play a Madden 20 game with my son. I did not change any settings. The game looked great and I did not sense any lag whatsoever. I can’t wait to try the new Xbox this fall. I considered the other released and to-be-released UST 4K projectors in this price range. I quickly passed on them due to color gamut support, reported color issues, device appearance, availability and price. This projector impressed me and will definitely impress. Other things I like: - rechargeable remote - easy to navigate menu system for settings, etc. - ability to access media sources on your network (not tested yet) - quiet fan - brightness - built in soundbar

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Notch I bought this projector about a week ago. This was coming from a Xiaomi 4K UST which I have had for about 4 months. Huge difference in not only the picture quality but the ease of setup and options within the projector to fine tune everything. I am currently utilizing a 135" Elite Aeon white matte screen and I am getting plenty of brightness during the day with the shades pulled for viewing. Though this size is past the recommended max range of 120" I am getting much better sharpness across the whole screen than the Xiaomi which was rated up to 150". HDR on this thing at night is eye searing even compared to my Sony x930e the Cinemax P1 holds its own. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Just what I've been waiting for! I just received the CinemaX P1 over the weekend. Had pre-ordered it from Amazon a while ago but was wait-listed. I had been looking to replace my 10 year old 1080p plasma for a long time and had done a lot of research into OLED and QLED because I did not have the space/aesthetics for a projector in my living room. I had also done research on other USTs but they were lacking and were priced outside my range not including a decent screen. I was eagerly waiting for the P1 as it checked everything on my list - 4K, 3D compatible, bright enough for daytime viewing, large projection size vs the cost, and did not require long throw distance so I can have my own home theater (without a separate, expensive theater room). Out of the box, it took about 15 minutes to get it set up. The P1 must have been already pre-updated to the latest firmware as it completed the final steps upon plugging it in. I paired it with a 120in, floor rising ALR Vivid Storm screen and connected to my Panasonic 4K Blu ray player. I made very slight adjustments to the physical location/feet of the projector on its credenza (note minor movement = big movement on wall/screen) so the image fit the screen. I focused it and went through the menus to get a lay of the land. I did not use the Smartfit feature. I then tested the P1's capabilities by playing Avengers Endgame in both 4K Ultra HD and Blu ray disc, using the P1's speakers. I will connect the P1 to my sound system later this week. I went through various settings to play around and test brightness levels and HDR. In any case, watching everything, especially on an ALR screen both with ambient daylight and/or room lights, was such a delight. I did notice the difference between 4K and upscaled Blu ray versions so I guess I will be buying 4K versions of movies from now on to enjoy now that I have the capability. Playing the movies in the dark...is just amazing! The sound was good but I've been used to my surround sound system in the room so having the sound coming from the projector only from the front was acceptable for the initial viewings. I am eagerly waiting to enjoy movies now that the video will be on par with the sound and allow me to have a more immersive experience. I will be connecting the P1 to the rest of my TV and sound system, playing with the other functionalities and testing 3D when my glasses arrive in the coming days. Thanks, Optoma, for allowing me to finally have a theater experience at home!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Color - Great Feature Projector Finally got the projector setup and started watching some 4K content. What a sweet upgrade vs my 1080p Benq. The laser light means I'll probably hook up the PS4 and not worry about burning out the bulb as I was with my previous lamp projector. Just wish the throw was a little shorter - but I customized my cabinet to fit everything and everything is perfect. Also waiting for the lag to come down a bit - but hopefully firmware fixes that soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was hoping for I’ve been waiting to find something that will give my two girls a real movie experience at home. I did not want to have a projector overhead so I waited a long time until I found the Optoma P1 It gave me exactly what I was looking for. The picture is amazing and with the CLR screen you can watch it even in the brightest of days. If you’re looking for a home theater experience The Optima P1 should be on the top of your list.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Home Theater Projector Out There....Amazing P I highly recommend this UST projector as an upgrade to any home theater. It'll take your experience to the absolute next level. I haven't tried gaming with it, but I watch a lot of movies and TV shows and I think it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. They also give you a 3 year warranty that gives you the comfort of knowing if anything should happen, you'll be covered for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Picture I wanted something easy to setup in our new house. The objective was a large screen without a permanent structure. I am very impressed by this screen. The sound also is great for the space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Way to Get 100" TV Alternative. The Optoma P1 was a product I had been waiting for and excited about. Having looked at what this relatively new ultra short throw laser technology had to offer I became excited and my search for the best options began. I knew I needed a UST projector and and ALR screen. I wanted great picture quality, English Language, Smart Features, Game Mode, 3D support, 4k Image and an affordable price. After looking at the options from Xiaomi out of China and considering the VAVA and LG out of the US, the Optoma P1 hit all the marks. I now have the best possible image that works Day and Night on my ALR screen and the result are amazing. Using this for all times of day usage as the main TV in a brightly lit room with Alot of Ambient light. The best gift for Christmas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Picture! I was very impressed with this projector as soon as I took it out of the box and set it up. It was very easy to connect to WiFi and then easy to connect to Netflix using the app. Downloading updates for the projector was quick and simple when prompted to perform an update. The 4K video is crisp, clear, and smooth. The sound is as loud as I could possibly want and very clear. The brightness is very bright, even with windows and lights on in the room. I have not explored all of the apps yet, but am very pleased so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great projector! The image quality of the projector is stunning! Even without a projector screen, the images on the wall looks very sharp and have good contrast. Setup is mostly easy. Metal case gives the remote expensive feel. Very versatile settings for brightness, sound, and almost everything need to be adjusted. For example, you can choose from preset brightness levels or adjust between 50-100% level. For audio, the internal speaker can be turned on or off, this is independent of external audio output, so you can have both internal and external speakers on at the same time and adjust volume and delays independently. Had a little bit confusion of using HDMI ARC to connect to SONOS, which does not work, looks like it's input only. Fortunately, was able to use the SONOS HDMI to optical cable to connect to the optical S/PDIF port. The black color of the projector is definitely a good choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning image quality I have had many different projectors over the years, all the way back to the first Advent VideoBeam back in the 1970s. I've had CRT, DLP, and LCOS projectors. The CinemaX P1 is far better than anything I have had before. The image is eye-popping: clear and bright with rich colors and deep blacks. HDR allows you to see every detail in shadows and in highlights. This is the first ultra short throw projector I have had. I had been wondering if there would be image compromises caused by the extreme angles of the optics. The answer is that the image is sharp from the center to all the corners with no visible distortion from the short throw optics. With the laser light source, there is no waiting for a lamp to come to full brightness and I don't have to worry about replacing a lamp. This projector is so simple to set up that you can have it up and running in minutes. You don't need to worry about mounting it on the ceiling. There are even templates to help get it positioned properly. The only concern I have had is that the at the factory settings, non-HDR material sometimes looked over-saturated and reddish. But it was a simple matter to adjust the settings more to my taste. HDR content looked amazing right out of the box. Everything considered, with the outstanding picture quality, ease of setup, and reasonable price, I would recommend the CinemaX P1 to anyone considering a projector.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 4K projector, even better with right screen The image quality of the projector is amazing. It can be a little tricky to position it just right, but the mobile app is of great help to make the alignments. For an even better quality, make sure to also get an UST-optimized screen as it improves the quality of the image even further.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black, with 3D support, say no more. I am very pleased with my purchase. I temporarily owned a VAVA 4k Projector, but I was not pleased with the results of it. The interface was designed to be too simple and the color white makes it stand out in my living room too much. I will say, the Optoma P1 is the only affordable black 4k projector and that was one of the main deciding factors for purchasing this item. However, I fell in love with the Optoma Cinemax P1 as soon as I read it has 3d. No other 4k projector has 3d support. Vava says it does, but its not included in the software. That can be a lie for all we know.. First off, it comes in black. It’s very sleek in person and even my wife loved it. The interface is more advanced than the VAVA 4k, however it’s still not as useful because of Android TV not being compatible with most apps. I did have my Shield attached to it and it runs with no flaws. The P1 does seem to be a lot brighter than the VAVA. I would say the P1 has a true 3000 lumens. I can see how lining up the screen can be tricky, but once you figure it out, it’s pretty simple. This is the best projector for the dollar.I recommend spending the extra cash and purchasing this item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bang For Bucks From A Reputable Brand In the past my group of friends have all met up at one friends house to watch major sporting events on his 82in TV a few times a month... That is until I bought this projector. Everyone wants to come to my place now to watch things on the 120 inch on my Optoma CinemaX P1! This thing is absolutely amazing! No looking back at all. You'll want to pick a well established brand with a good warranty when making a purchase this large, and that's why I stuck with Optoma.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Optoma P1 after two weeks usages I bought this projector from Amazon and have been using it for two weeks. The 120 inches screen size is a huge upgrade from the 75 inches LED TV. I have been waiting for the UST screen to arrive while projecting the image on the wall. So far everything works fine and I will give another review once the screen arrives.

I control the lighting in my room which helps this projector show off it’s talents. At about 2ft from the wall I get a 120 inch 4K image! I will never go back to regular TV again! Thanks Optoma!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is nothing like the old projectors I had a dedicated home theater in my previous house and while I liked it there were several drawbacks, mainly using it was a production and it would rarely get used which meant most of the media consumption in the house was still done on the regular TVs. So after I moved I was interested in being able to have a large projection screen in my Great Room that would get used on a daily basis instead of just once a week. There were lots of considerations that had me second guessing this like projector noise, hiding the projector, dealing with ambient light (there are a lot of windows in the room), time to turn on, time to turn off and heat. I am happy to say the CinemaX P1 has addressed all of these issues and allowed me to have a 120" projection screen in my Great Room while removing all of the drawbacks to my previous setup. 1) Ambient Light. The Optoma P1 combined with an ALR screen has no issue dealing with ambient light. The location of the screen does not get direct sunlight on it but picture is bright and still very good even at full daylight. Previously I would have to draw the blinds sometime to watch the LCD TV because of reflections but since the ALR screen is not glossy I don't even have that issue any more. 2) Mounting. Mounting the projector on my ceiling would have been a problem. I would have no way to hide it unless I built an enclosure around it but if I did that with my old projector I would have a heat problem to solve along with dealing with projector noise. Being able to set this UST down on the entertainment center directly in front of the screen is great. It is a simple black box which does not stick out, and makes very little noise when on. In addition it produces almost no heat. 3) Power On/Off time. My old projector would take a little time to warm up and it would take several minutes to shut down so it could cool. This new projector turns on and off pretty much instantly. All in all I am very happy with my purchase. Picture quality is fantastic. We can watch the screen without having to close all the blinds and shut off all the lights. It turns on and off like a regular TV so everyone in the household is able to use it. My only gripe is that the Netflix and Plex apps in the App Store on the device are buggy and a headache to use. I am sure I could find updated APK's online and load them myself but I connected a new Shield TV Pro and no longer have any issues. The Shield remote will even turn the projector on and off so it is seamless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Short review of handling unit for a few hours 1. Set up was very easy. literally just set it and powered on the unit. Keep in mind common sense dictates you have to make sure the unit is parallel to the wall, so ensuring that was trial and error but again, fairly quick. 2. Image is surprisingly bright and clear - even on a blank wall. Now my wall is a smooth flat matte white is it may have a different effect depending on the material, color, paint of your wall. Also keep in mind, I am in a condo with floor to ceiling glass windows with some ambient light coming through the blackout curtains. I get my Elunevision Reference 8K Short throw screen delivered later this Friday, so will report back on that. 3. For gamers out there, turn off SmartFit and puremotion. With smartfit the input lag is horrible and basically unplayable. With both off, it's passable. Still not for competitive play however, but to me playable. Keep in mind that definition of "playable" is subjective per user. I am coming off of a 20ms Input lag LED TV. I have no way of measuring scientifically ms of the projector, but it is rated at 49ms. It sounds about right, definitely noticeable, but again, playable. 4. The audio, while very good - given NuForce. In my opinion, is abit redundant. I suppose it serves as if you move this unit around to a friends or so - but its 25 lbs. Are you really going to be hucking a laser projector that heavy around? This is coming from an avid cross-fitter. Most people in this price bracket intend on having a full cinematic experience and thus home theatre speakers. Perhaps they could have at least utilized the projector as the center channel of a 2.1 / 5.1 / 7.1 with NuForce providing a package you could buy to add on to this. 5. The unit is built solidly and is actually something to behold - that said, it is much larger than I expected - again likely due to the premium soundbar. Though of course, only time will tell on if this is built to quality standards and lasts the expected 20000-30000 hours rated, Given Optoma, I do not doubt it however. 6. I have tried going to 130" but on the wall you can definitely begin to see subtle changes in light at the edges - remains to be seen if I got a screen specifically for 130 if it would fix that. Alas, I only got a 120 inch screen so this is not something I can test. 7. Sound from the unit itself is audible if there is no music / movie / game playing from the speakers. Loud enough, that from 12 feet away, it can be heard when I took a phone call when i muted sound. So far an amazing unit, will continue to test and adjust my review accordingly. Though keep in mind, this is my first foray into UST market or projectors to start. My last projector experience was my Dad's place 10 years ago with a budget model from then, thus obviously a stark contrast from that. Though I am coming from an 75" LED TV.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holy wow! Worth the wait. Finally got delivered this monstrous beast of an UST projector. First thing, I threw up some 4K content from YouTube on a 120" VividStorm Floor Screen and it I had no words on the clarity and color. It was better than my 65 inch Samsung TV. I was going to get an 82" Samsung but the cost was close so it made sense to get a bigger screen for almost the same price. Another added bonus, the family can watch movies in 3D. We almost got the VAVA but their 3D is not functional and if your going to spend in this price range, I think you should get all that an UST should do. Glad we went with the Optoma.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more Down in Front My husband talked me into investing in yet another projector. I was so hesitant because this would be number three and it was annoying having to place it center-room and sit around it. But the Optoma is life changing and the picture is so clean. I'm a fan!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks good, but focus an issue Bought the projector bundle w/ an EluneVision Aurora 8K 100" screen. Without an adjustable table/stand, it was quite difficult to set up perfectly without having to run SmartFit and lose some quality (SmartFit uses keystone correction which 'may' negatively impact the image). So make sure you follow the measurements correctly and try to get the height and distance from the screen just right! I was slightly disappointed that only the rear legs were height-adjustable, and the front legs weren't, so it was a lot harder to line up than it should've been. Hooking up my PC to the projector, I noticed a very obvious focus issue. Setting the resolution to 4K, small text was very, extremely blurry. Using the projectors' Dynamic Focus feature, I was able to adjust the focus so that I can clearly read the text, but moving the text to another side of the screen made it blurry again, and it was only readable in that section of the screen. Re-adjusting the focus would simply swap which side of the screen was more focused. Since I was using SmartFit I knew the angle of the projector was slightly off which I thought was the main factor of the focus issue - so I turned SmartFit off and I MacGyver'd a stand so that I could line up the projector just perfectly without the use of keystone/SmartFit. Once finished, unfortunately, the focus issue remained. This mainly impacted the quality and visibility of text and icons when using a Windows 10 desktop PC in 4k, but running videos and movies looked perfect. Great projector so far though, I've only had it for about 2 weeks now and am yet to discover more cool things about it. Sadly, the LED lighting kit that came with my screen died, but that's not an Optoma issue. The remote control that came with the projector makes a noticeable 'click-y', 'rattle-y' sound when rotated/picked up, which can get annoying sometimes but it still works - so no complaints there. TL'DR, 3/5 because front legs aren't adjustable, and focus isn't great for PC use. Everything else about the projector is absolutely awesome! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Projector; almost perfect 100” screen Aesthetics - The projector itself is the only UST 4K HDR projector I found where the design got as much attention as the features; it’s a big device, but it’s gorgeous as these things go. And not just because all of the other UST’s I looked at were white for some reason; the P1’s sleek lines, fabric speaker cover and all black design were easy wins. The fan is not silent, and it gets louder when the processor is working harder (i.e. it amps up when going from 1080p to 4K HDR) but it’s still quiet enough to be undetectable when there’s literally any other noise source (including the PS4’s fans when it’s outputting 4K HDR). Setup – Setup is easy out of the box: Put it as close to the wall for the screen size you want and make adjustments as needed. It comes with cards that show you how far away to place the console based on what size you want; good reference, but not as helpful in practice. I played around with geometry correction, but as I am going to be playing games on this, I turned it off to reduce input lag. That’s also why I have turned PureMotion off (though I would have anyways because of Soap Opera Effect) and I haven’t even downloaded SmartFIT app. If you’re not going to be playing video games on this, both geometry correction and SmartFIT would make setup even easier. Keep PureMotion off though. I set up the projector like so, and the image pretty much perfectly in the screen with no distortion or digital correction: -Placed the projector on the TV stand, powered it on, and moved it until the image was the desired size on the wall, as level as possible, and in approximately the right location. -Marked the upper corners of the image with a pencil. -Hung frame so that corners were lined up as closely as possible to markings. -Moved TV stand back by same 1” distance screen juts out from wall, angled it so it looked good in room. -Made micro adjustments to projector’s angle, leg position, leg height, etc (this took almost 30 minutes on the floor making 1mm adjustments; frustrating but super worth it.) Image Quality *Note: paired with Elite Screens Aeon Series CLR 100” screen* – Big, bright beautiful picture, especially at night / in darkness. Image can’t match the black levels of an OLED, but it looks as good as any LCD or LED TV, and the image is completely smooth with no vertical banding, unlike my OLED. There are some adjustments you’ll need to make right on each display mode on each input: turn Dynamic Black off and leave that setting on Power 100%, (going lower changes the color temperature for some reason), crank up the color and contrast to double digits at least (my color is 35 out of 50, contrast is 23), turn off Brilliant Color (or whatever it’s called) in the Color Settings, and change the white balance to Neutral. Then play with the brightness to combat the washed-out look. 4K HDR sources look amazing, especially video games. I’ve played God of War and Overwatch on it, watched Endgame, IT Part 2, and Into the Spider-verse to test the HDR, and they all look great. It’s bright and colorful enough that anyone who sees it assumes it’s a large TV at first. Thanks to zero digital image adjustments, I don’t notice any input lag with console gaming at all; I’ve played Overwatch, Borderlands 3, and Witcher 3 on it, and I don’t notice any difference from playing on a TV. (I HAVE noticed a good amount of input lag if you turn PureMotion on; makes gaming very sluggish). Sound – Sound is good for being just the one source; simulated surround sound works, but you’ll definitely notice the lack of subwoofer. I have a receiver with 5.1 surround so I’m not using speaker; I would have happily gone with a speaker-less version if available. Smart Features – Very lacking; only YouTube is 4K HDR, the rest are 480p. USB media player is OK, but the interface is not great and it doesn’t decode or passthrough HD audio. Alexa works fine: I can turn it on and off and switch inputs, which is great, but I can’t get it to change display modes or brightness yet. Still tweaking, and could be fixed with an update. Pros -100” image when placed 12” from wall; bottom of screen is 14” above TV stand surface -Good looking unit, which is good because it becomes the centerpiece of your TV stand -Bright, crisp, and colorful 4K HDR; great black levels and contrast with HDR content -Games and movies look amazing; HDR games look as good as an OLED. -I didn’t notice any input lag after turning off SmartFIT and PureMotion (which should be off anyways, soap opera effect is terrible) -Remote is metal and feels good in the hand. -InfoWall is fun… kind of… I can’t imagine using it regularly. Cons -I could not get HD Audio from the USB Media Playback; neither DD+ nor DTS-HD were sent to my receiver via the ARC connection. -Especially because of the above, I didn’t need the speakers to be as good as they are; not sure how much cost, weight and bulk it adds, but I’m guessing some. -There is slight pixel overspray: where the sharp line of the image ends, there’s .5”-1” of softer light around the edges. I solved this easily by ‘thickening’ the borders of my screen with felt tape. I have never seen this in a projector before, but would assume it’s due to the extreme angle of projection. -Would love it if I could turn off the Power On video and chime. -Can’t get Alexa to change display modes or brightness yet. -Smart Apps not worth it; will need FireStick, ChromeCast, NVIDIA Shield TV (my choice), etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent projector but OS is a failure I have been using P1 for three weeks, Setup was quick and simple. I am projecting onto a ALR screen and the picture quality is excellent, the CinemaX P1 shines with outstanding picture quality, But, it was very difficult to setup perfectly without having to run SmartFit and lose some pixels, I'm trying to focus the projector every time I use it, I think it is impossible to but all the screen in focus, Overall the P1 is more than greet, but the OS is pretty bad and needs tons of work to get to the hardware quality level

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Picture quality is amazing! I’ve had my projector for a month now and couldn’t be happier. I am very impressed with my new CinemaX P1 projector. The picture quality is amazing. The soundbar is much better quality than I expected. I'm not sure I'm going to waste my money on a surround sound system now. Overall I am very impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was even better than I had imagined! I bought this trying to solve a problem with a regular projector and was blown away. It was so easy to set up (had it working in 5 minutes), and the 4k HDR picture quality was amazing. Even the audio quality was great, you wouldn't think one unit could fill a room with such amazing sound. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Picture, Software Refinement Needed I bought this projector to replace a traditional television set in my living room. I had concerns whether a projector would be suitable for normal, everyday use, especially considering the challenges my living room presents. Namely, since it's my living room, the lights will be on most of the time and the wall directly to one side of the projector is almost entirely made of floor-to-ceiling windows. Despite those challenges, the CinemaX P1 shines with outstanding picture quality that rivals even high-end television sets. The picture is bright enough for daytime viewing and looks absolutely vibrant when the lights are down. Sure, the latest TV sets might provide a brighter image, but nothing can replace the immersive, cinematic experience of having a giant, projected image in your living room. The CinemaX P1 gets 5 stars for picture quality. The one area where the CinemaX P1 could be improved, though, is in its software. There's nothing necessarily "wrong" with the software; it's just not as beautiful or useful as what's offered on high-end television sets. The Game mode does a great job of making the picture bright and vibrant, but it doesn't seem to improve response time all that much for video gaming. Also, the smart home setup (i.e. Alexa or Google Assistant) is not a straight-forward process and there isn't a lot of documentation out there to help with the setup. Luckily, though, the minor software gripes are things that can be improved over time with software updates. The bottom line is this projector delivers where it matters most, with outstanding picture quality that delivers a truly cinematic experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome image! I ordered this from B&H in Sept, and received it last week. It is replacing an 84" LG 4k from 2013 (155lbs!). I had some issues at first because I used the information in the manual to decide where to mount my screen (120" ALR UST). I did not realize that there is quite a bit of tolerance on the specs, so I had to move the screen up 3". I wanted to use the natural image without any software adjustments. Once up and running I had issues with focus (it would not focus evenly across the screen, even though screen is perfectly flat and vertical with projector on a perfectly horizontal surface). It also had some issues with resolution, but I think that was HDMI related. Somehow, it is now perfectly focused all on its own - maybe there is a run-in period for the laser??? We now have DirecTV at 720p and bluray/netflix/amazon etc at 2160p - everything looks great and it truly looks like a 120" LCD on the wall! Very happy so far!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great TV replacement! I have had this projector for a few weeks now and I am still impressed every time I turn it on. I paired it with a Grandview Dymanique UST screen and the setup amazes all of my guests. Most do not realize that it is not a flat screen TV. My only issue with this unit is the distance from the wall to the front of the projector. I had to build a 27" deep shelf and the projector sits right at the edge to project a 100" image on my screen. Other than that, this is a perfect purchase. Thanks for a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is going to be a Happy New Year After a long wait, I've just received my P1. The P1 was well packaged. Upon lifting the unit out of the box I could feel the weight and quality of the projector. The materials are worthy of the price point. The contrasting colors of the shell, the gold accent pieces, and the speaker cover are nice. I have only begun testing. My first impressions against a matte white wall in a well lit room with one wall being all glass is that the projector is bright and the image is sharp. On a plain wall in a lit room the P1 is watchable. Soon I will set up the ALR screen for the complete package. Can't wait.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first projector experience. Arrived from Amazon two days earlier than expected. Setup was a breeze, but took a little while to connect up to WIFI. Warp control to get the image just right took some trial an error. Downloaded the SmartFIT to my iPad, but couldn’t get it to work, so I resorted to manual adjustments. After an hour of setup, I got it all up and running and we’re watching late night TV. Great to have a 10 foot screen in our media room. Speakers are great, but waiting for the rest of the speakers and components to get installed so we can have a full fledged theater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The CinemaX P1 is nothing short of incredible I got my projector a couple weeks ago and have it installed and loving it. I am using an Elite Aeon 120 inch CineWhite screen in a dedicated darkened theater room, though I can have some light on and still see the picture well. The picture is incredible with 4K, blu-ray, standard DVD and 3D!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it.... I have wanted a projector for going on 15 years. But I never had the right space to control all of the elements needed for a great picture and home theater experience. The Optoma P1 solves almost all of the issues. I don’t have to worry about mounting to a ceiling, or keystone correction, or throw distance, or blocking the projector light with seating. It’s almost plug and play, and makes setup and flexibility finally feel like I can have the best of all worlds. I paired this with a Grandview Dynamique 120” screen and it looks tremendous. The 4k color representation in a dark environment is outstanding and the performance in ambient light conditions finally feels like it’s still a functional TV. My only barrier has been the difficulty getting the projector to fit my screen perfectly, but I am still working with the auto fit app and my screen placement. For the price and flexibility I would absolutely recommend this projector to anyone who felt intimidated by the setup and light issues of conventional, ceiling mounted projectors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Picture - Could use some updates So overall a great package for the money - color is great, overall HD picture is amazing. However I do have a couple issues I will outline that hopefully could be addressed 1. When the unit boots up, it often gets confused as to what picture setting (1080p/2080p ect) it should be in and it results in me having to manually override my other devices to get them back to 2080 which is annoying 2. When the unit boots up, all the display settings are locked out and it defaults to some odd picture mode. In order to unlock, I need to go back to the units home screen and then toggle back to HDMI 1. Not unit breaking but inconvenient 3. I have calibrated my Brightness/Contrast and Color, while the brightness's and colors look great - extreme whites are washing out areas around them visibly which is a bit disappointing 4. Honestly there is no documentation at all for this unit, it took me a solid hour to figure out how to calibrate between no documentation and the fact that the unit would not let me until I figured out I needed to toggle between the home screen and the HDMI i wanted to calibrate a couple times to make it work These things are not unit breaking, I still love the projector but if they can be addressed with a firmware update - it would be flawless. The updates that have already been made to smart fit are great so I am hoping continue updates will be pushed out to refine the quality of the hardware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Kit I just received my P1 and haven't spent too much time with it yet, but, so far, so good. Setup was quick and simple. I am projecting onto a 120" Ceiling Light Rejecting screen and the picture quality is excellent. I've come from a traditional ceiling mount projector so I'm looking forward to the being able to stand up and not block the image with the P1 UST. The Optoma App Store seems a bit limited so I will likely just run it with a separate 3rd party 4k streaming device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good projector, but with some banding issues First time projector owner here. First off, the contrast is actually better than I thought it would be, even with a non CLR screen. Overall, picture looks alright, but I’m experiencing a lot of color banding issues whenever the sky is shown on the screen. This was actually very disappointing to me, but I’m not sure if it’s standard for this projector or I got a dud. Hopefully someone from Optoma can answer this for me. Anyway, The built in speaker is pretty impressive, although there doesn’t seem to be an option to use it as a center channel in a 5.1 setup. While not amazing, I’d say the relatively affordable price and feature set makes this an okay buy, if you’re willing to forgive the annoying color banding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Movies under the Stars I bought this with the hope of placing this by the pool for kids parties. Out of the projectors out there, this one allows people to walk in front of the screen. Also, I don't need to add anything other than an extension for power. Content goes over WiFi and the built audio takes care of the rest. I initially read reviews suggesting the built in audio just caused the price to go up, but for me I couldn't find anything close for hassle free portable entertainment. The picture is true 4K and home theatre quality, so overall it's tough to beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm impressed! I purchased this projector from Amazon after reading and watching as many reviews as possible. After a long wait, I received this last week as it was not in the market for sometime. I was considering purchasing the VAVA projector, but decided to go for Optoma as it is a company dedicated to producing projectors only. I knew that I needed an ALR UST screen for this projector, so I purchased a PET screen from XYscreen from China before receiving the projector. I have watched a few movies so far and the quality of the projection is stunning. The pictures are very bright, sharp and colourful on the screen. I have set this projector in my media room upstairs in my home which has a lot of sunlight during the day, The results are amazing even during day time on the PET screen. I haven’t tried the 3D capability yet, but I am hoping it will be excellent. My kids have tried a few games using their PS4, and they are happy with its performance. The built-in speakers are amazing as it gives enough quality sound for my media room. The only critic I have about this projector is that the built-in apps are not that great. I expected that Optoma did software updates for apps with 4k resolution. I was having an issue with setting up the image on my screen due to the height of the stand that I was using for the projector, but was able to get it resolved by using a shorter stand. I am overall beyond satisfied with this projector and I highly recommend this projector as it is definitely worth its price tag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pricey projector, but picture is fantastic! Purchased for home theater setup which would have been a difficult install for a traditional 'long throw' front projector. Decided an Ultra Short Throw would be the way to go, and read all the reviews on this Optoma. Price was on the high end of what I wanted to spend, but decided to go with it. It will not disappoint you! Picture is incredible. Onboard sound is so good, I often just use it instead of turning on my surround sound system. Operating system is clear and easy to use. No regrets so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 4K Projector I've recently set up my new CinemaX P1 and it's really nice. Fine tuning the screen sizing can be a challenge if you're trying to fit an actual projection screen vs just throwing it on the wall. I'm limited in ceiling height where I am so getting a short enough stand was tough. Once it's all set up, it's beautiful. Watching standard HD cable TV or 4K look great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All in One Entertainment Center I bought this and was fortunate enough to be able to compare it with some competitors in the same space. The short version is that this is, by far, the best "all-in-one theater" in this space, especially at this price. The picture is excellent, the built-in sound is excellent, and the build quality feels solid and beautiful. The only "cons" which may not matter to most people but I will mention for sake of fairness: - Throw distance/offset is quite high so that if you put this on a table-top at the same height you would put a TV, the picture will be very high on the wall. You just need to rethink the space a little bit for this reason. - It is physically a large unit. If you like your electronics to stand out it's perfect. If you wanted it to blend in, not so much. The pros: - Picture is incredible. - Built in sound is powerful and clear. - It's a portable 150 inch home theater and sound system in one. What more could you want?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best in show indeed! Although there are a few competing products at the moment, none of them hits the sweet spot in terms of 4K+HDR features, performance, and price-point like the P1 CinemaX. I've had this running for a week now along with a 120" UST ALR screen, and could not be more satisfied. Colours are vibrant and vivid, and the resolution is stunning. The app market place however needs a lot more seasoning, as the apps are slow to load, are few and far between, and somewhat buggy. But as long as you have other media input sources (game console, media box, casting dongle, Blu-Ray player) then you probably won't care about the built-in apps much, and this projector will bring out the best in your media at a huge screen size! Well deserving of the accolades it's received thus far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing projector Well, this is the future I was promised. I couldn't be happier with this projector, and it is well worth the price of admission. Not only is the 4k HDR picture amazing, its warp control ability is such a useful feature. It is also incredibly quiet. I have it hooked up to my Amazon Alexa, and it works perfectly. Since I am using my own sound system through a receiver, unfortunately I can't comment on the built-in sound bar. It looks like the only real downside to this projector is that it is a bit hard to find in stock right now. If you find one and are in the market for a fantastic short throw projector, then it's a no-brainer: buy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from By far the most reliable and diverse projector! We purchased this projector 1 month ago to use at a clients house, I was a bit hesitant at first with the Short Throw but I can tell you one thing, this is by far the most reliable and diverse projector on the market at the moment. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding 4K UST projector I have had this projector for over a month and I am still impressed with the picture quality. Set up was easy and straight forward and had it up and running in minutes. I have mine paired with an Elunevision Aurora 8K ALR screen and the image is crisp, clear and bright. I have owned a few projectors in the past from sony, epson and benq but this being the first UST and laser projector and I can say the picture quality excellent. The projector itself is on the large size but the build quality is excellent and the fan noise quiet. This is an excellent projector that won't disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Picture. OS Needs Work. The P1 projects a pretty amazing image and the built-in speakers are certainly serviceable. The main issues I have with the device are the operating system and app store. The software on the P1 - as well as the selection and quality of available apps - has thus far been disappointing. I assume that Optoma will work to improve these deficiencies over time. If they do, this projector will be worthy of 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing This is our first projector and we LOVE it. The quality is great, it's like being in a theater. Setup was super easy, didn't even need to read the manual. That said, to get things perfectly aligned I will need to spend a bit more time. A few things to keep in mind: - Measure where your screen will be. Our projector needs to sit lower than I expected because I didn't measure the vertical offset for our screen size before buying. - The unit itself has relatively noisy fans, not an issue when something is playing because the sounds obviously is much louder than the fans. However, in a silent room with nothing on the screen they're audible if you're sensitive to things like that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible Company, Expensive, Mediocre Product Update 3/5 - Will give 0 star if allowed. While picture quality is good, the alignment and apps are terrible, I don't recommend to buy this anymore. Light bleeds all around and the smartfit alignment app is useless. spent more than 6 hours and multiple , emails and phone calls with customer support and they couldn't help. Many folks are having this issue where light will be projected outside the frame on all 4 sides making it really ugly. Tech support is suggesting to use the wall or screen with no frame. It is almost impossible to align this projector either using the app or manually and takes lot of time and patient to get a decent alignment. Stay away and not worth the money. Unable to install in the ceiling to get over the alignment issue as Optoma doesn't offer that solution. Highly recommend to consider other 4K UST out there to avoid the trouble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge image with an unbelievable amount of details This projector is impressive : the size of the projected image is huge, with a very limited space necessary between the projector and the wall. There are a lot of options to adapt the picture to your taste : color, brightness, geometry correction with up to 9x9 points. The HDR quality is amazing and I seriously didn't think I would see so many details on such a huge size of picture, but I'm seriously impressed. The sound is also very good, but I'm going to keep using my home theater since there's no 5.1 emulation and having such a nice image deserves a matching amazing sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ultra Short Throw Projector This is my third projector and first Ultra Short Throw projector. The image quality is amazing, filling a 92-inch screen from just in front of it. 4K videos shot by my drone are breathtaking. I have to admit that I had issues connecting to my WiFi; it kept telling me that the password was wrong, even after I setup another WiFi SID with a very simple 8 character password. I finally put an Ethernet cable in the back and gave up on WiFi. Even with the WiFi issues this is the best projector I ever had!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best in its class I had to wait for the release of this projector ever since it was announced, nearly a year. I must say that it was worth all the wait. The moment I decided to buy a projector, I already made up my mind to buy a laser projector for all the obvious reasons. The second must have option was the Ultra Short Throw (UTS). I'm not a big fan of ceiling-mounted projectors, it ruins the look of the room unless you build an enclosure soffit. I hate the beam of light crossing the room, and when someone walks in front of it, the image is gone although for a brief moment. This projector had exceeded all my expectations. I have theater room that I painted matte black, and the image is out of this world; vivid black, very sharp crisp colors and because it is laser with high luminance, the image is bright even in ambient light. This projector comes with a very descent sound bar, but honestly I didn't need it because in this price range you want to have a really good surround system. I'm pairing this with a Yamaha RX-A2080, Polk subs and speakers mounted behind an acoustically transparent screen. The experience is unbelievable, but the WOW factor is the image and it's coming from this amazing projector. I would definitely recommend this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Image I recently purchased this projector along with an Elunevision 8k UST110 inch Reference screen as part of an upgrade to our previous lamp based projector and 100 inch non tensioned screen combo. I have been running this projector for 1 week now in my dedicated home theatre and am very impressed with the picture quality. Image is bright with very good details regarding sharpness and contrast levels. In fact, with 3000 lumens available, I no longer need to run this projector at 100% brightness level unlike my old lamp based projector. As I have a dedicated standalone home theatre sound system, I have no need to utilize the Optoma's internal sound system. However, it does sound quite good and is a nice option for those who do not have a separate audio system. Set up was straight forward but did require some planning regarding projector placement for screen and wall. I am very satisfied with this projector along with the light rejecting UST screen and look forward to many years of enjoyment with this setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So glad I bought this... I have had the projector set up and running in my dedicated home theater room for about a week now. I was very skeptical about going with a projector over an OLED or QLED tv but honestly, I have no regrets with deciding on this projector. The contrast is better than I could have hoped, the colors are vibrant and clear. I haven’t yet played any 4K content, but just the 1080p content I have played looks better than it did on my 1080p video tv I bought in 2014. I should mention that I am projecting onto a diy screen I made using flixi white material from Carl’s Projector Screens. Honestly, if you are considering getting this projector, just get it, you will be happy. Even my wife who was skeptical about Spending the money on this has quickly fallen in love with it! Pros -very easy to adjust focus -Easy to adjust screen edges -Sharpness and Contrast are excellent -Image is sharp from corner to corner -Starts up pretty fast, no waiting for a bulb to warm up. -turns on when I turn on the Apple TV and immediately connects to that device. (Would do the same for Xbox or any media player) -projector is quiet. Cons -Because I have a 7.1 sound system in my home theater I don’t need or want the sound bar that is built into the projector, and I feel like I probably paid extra for a feature I will never use, and I imagine many people considering this projector will be in the same situation. Having said that, I would definitely still pay for this projector again -I will probably lose the remote in the couch cushions every time we watch a movie

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome TV replacement We purchased this projector to use instead of a television in our living room. I had done a lot of research before deciding on this projector and so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect from it. After finally using it, it has exceeded my expectations. It was easy to setup. It displays an amazing picture, and does so even with a fair amount of ambient light (we are using it with an ALR screen); this is key because our living room gets a lot of light. Very satisified with this purchase. That said, there are things that could be improved, mostly software and connectivity. There is a marketplace, but the selection is lacking; I have found it difficult to get content to the projector without actually connecting a device to it. I haven't found any documentation or method of casting to the projector from Windows 10 over a network. I haven't been able to find a way to cast from an Android device. I haven't had any success in adding a shared network folder through the built-in software, either. Consequently, I am going to need to get another device to feed content to the projector. Which is acceptable, but not ideal. TL;DR: Amazing visuals when paired with ALR screen, easy set up. But you will most likely need to add an additional device to deliver content, be it a PC, Apple TV, Roku, nVidia Shield, Raspberry Pi, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Projector I upgraded from a 10 year old 1080p prjavascript:void(0)ojector. The image quality difference is breathtaking. Even my wife, who in general is not super into quality, noticed the difference. The color reproduction is really good. I am using a "regular" fixed fram screen from Amazon but I do have it in my finished basement where I can control the light. I have my PS4 Pro connected to it as well and games look fantastic. You may read about latency issues on other site but I don't see any noticeable latency lag and it's totally usable for gaming. I would deduct 1/2 start for the following. I never could get SmartFit to work. Could be how my screen is setup...the top of it is very close to the ceiling. However, I used the "Warp Calibration" to zoom in the picture and removing keystone and it only took a few minutes. The other issue is placement. Since this is a UST projector, placement is very important. I would have liked to see a little more guidance on where to place the projector especially for a 110" screen while seems to be ignored. 100 and 120 are in there, why not 110?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for bedroom and living room I have a dedicated home theater but I wanted something to replace my 55 inch TV in my bedroom and this is perfect . Color reproduction is good enough that I don't miss my TV, and since it is my bedroom projector integrated sounds system is good enough to watch a some videos before sleep. I took off one star because I see the system struggling when I switch HDMI inputs and I wished it had a cover to protect eyes from bright laser light if I need to adjust the back cable, but again one can debate it is my mistake that I did not turn the projector off while working on the cables. Anyway project is so bright it gave me a headache for a day, so I think it is a good thing that we are given 3000 ANSI lumens 4k projector at this price point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best UST Projector I’ve Owned I’ve had my P1 now for a week and a half and I must say it’s the best UST I’ve owned (also have had a xiaomi WiMAX A300, and have have a VAVA to compare). 3D on this is phenomenal and when paired with a UST screen this is used as a 100% tv replacement. Couldn’t be happier with this, good job Optoma!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome value! Great design. In a nutshell, this all-in-one beauty is a total value! The 4K looks great and sharp. The design looks amazing. This is the best projector I have ever tried myself. For the price, you really can't do better. LG's equivalent is double the price. Oh and the remote looks and feels cool too. Reminds me of the Amazon Fire Stick remote but better because it also has light-up buttons which is great for dark rooms. The speakers are very adequate for everyday viewing. If you want deep, powerful base though, you should always have a dedicated subwoofer because no projector can produce that level of base. Overall, best bang for the buck. And great customer service too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was skeptical, but I had to buy and see it I was skeptical, but once I set it up (which took less than 5 minutes, mostly dedicated on system update), I was blown away, to be clear, I do not own special ALR screen. But even then, it was extremely bright, colours were bright, and the sound quality was a suparb. I did notice abit of delay, but you can easily adjust it so that it synchronizes. I am extremely satisfied with this device.

Using it on a bare wall and still looks good, just waiting for my alr screen. This projector will be good for career job fairs that I will be doing along with possible courses that I will try to run. Overall 4/5 since input lag could be better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Amazing! Received this beauty today to replace my Optoma GT5500+ and I couldn't be happier. The picture quality is outstanding! The depth of the blacks and the richness of the color is better then I expected. Even with ambient light the depth and contrast is amazing. I can't wait to host a movie night to show off the new projector. Another small bonus is the remote is rechargeable which is appreciate. My only advise beside buy it now is to measure your space as this is a fairly large unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the wait Just received our Optoma p1 projector, drop shipped direct from Optoma. It could be seen in just the packaging the quality that Optoma puts into its products. The unit itself is very sleek and beautiful. We didn’t need to use the supplied instructions for set up as everything is pretty clear on how to plug in and hook up any additional cables. With the assistance of the smart device app picture set up was quick and easy. The Nuforce sound bar has amazing sound clarity! The picture quality is top notch. The plan will be to purchase an additional Optoma p1 down the road because of its versatility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Quality I ordered this projector on pre-sale and was excited for it to have arrived today. The projector came well packaged. The setup was simple and the projector was ready to go out of the box. Simple plug and play. Optoma's SmartFit feature as well as the power focus made adjusting the image to my screen a breeze. The image quality is superb and the sound from the P1's speakers rivals most soundbars I've heard. I have this set up in my living room which has several windows and lots of ambient light. This was no issue for this projector's 3000 lumens. The image was bright even in the middle of the day. I recommend pairing the projector with a screen designed for ultra short throw projectors to maximize brightness. I owned an Optoma HD25-LV projector prior to purchasing this one and I have to say I am very pleased with this upgrade. I have yet to be disappointed with Optoma's projector and image quality. Would highly recommend this projector for anyone looking to step into the world of ultra short throw projectors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Image Coming from the Optoma UHD60, I am blown away with the picture quality of this projector. I am very pleased that I also no longer have to deal with blocking the image since my old setup had the UHD60 right behind the couch around head level. The setup is relatively simple but you need to be sure you have enough clearance height between the screen and the location of the projector (around 17 inches) I found in order to get a solid starting point before the smart tweaking on the app. Overall, I am extremely happy with the purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TV Replacement I’ve had the projector for a week now and am very happy with the purchase. I’m using it primarily as a television replacement in a room full of windows. Even with a cheap matte white screen, it is completely watchable for sports in the middle of day. Movies are a little washed out during the day but are stunning at night even with mild room lighting. Unless you want to watch high quality moving in broad daylight, my suggestion would be to save on the ALR screen and add some modest light controls (shades, curtains, etc.) for a great experience. The only two drawbacks so far were the tightness of the set up and sound quality. The set up is a little particular with the height (from base to bottom of screen) not matching the published specs - mine is nearly 16” for 100” screen. The sound quality is good but not great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Picture and Easy Set Up I received my CinemaX P1 last weekend. Set up was a breeze. It was out of the box and set up in less than 10 minutes. I have it set up for a 100" screen. The picture is crisp, the kids love watching movies on it, and watching football games on it is amazing. The only knock right now is that the input lag is noticeable for fast-paced video games. For example, playing Rocket League on Xbox One was tough. So if using for face-paced video games, this may not be ideal, but that might be something they can improve with software updates (or maybe I need to change more settings myself -- I did use "Game Mode" and turned off "Pure Motion"). But overall, this is a great projector, especially if you do not have the space to set up a projector on the other side of the room. The projector itself also looks sleek too. One friend that was over visiting at first thought I had a 100" TV with a sound bar before I told him that the image was being projected from inches away. Overall, very impress and recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SmartFIT is amazing!! I’m very happy with the purchase. Picture is very sharp and bright even though I had it projected to a regular 120” white screen. I took some pictures during day time and it’s already bright enough. I’m getting an ALR which should make it much better for day time viewing. I got to say that I’m very impressed with SmartFIT app as it makes setting up really easy and perfect to my eye. I have no complaints so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astounding - there’s no other word for it! Prior to the P1, I had only worked with UST projectors in an educational setting and have been underwhelmed with the image quality - especially focus at the corners. This is nothing like those projectors! I’ve has this out of the box for 5 minutes and am floored. It is /absolutely/ the game-changer that I was hoping for. Aesthetically, it’s a bit like a big Xbox, not gorgeous, but also simple, understated, and easy to blend in. The image quality, however, is beyond compare. My previous projector (e-shift JVC) never produced an image this sharp, or vibrant. I haven’t been thru the calibration yet, but out of the box, I have no complaints. Sound quality is beyond any TV I’ve had, but it’ll be connected to a theater surround system momentarily. Might still be nice to use the internal speakers when I want things a bit quieter. Speaking of quiet - the projector itself is much quieter than my JVC - I hate fan noise! Two things I tried immediately - Xbox/PS4 gaming. Seems fine to me, but I’m in my 40s and twitch gaming isn’t my thing. Response time seems no worse than the LG set it is replacing (never bothered to turn on a game mode on my LG if that tells you anything.) I DO see a bit of the color wheel strobing if I wave my hand rapidly in front of my face, but much less than on other projectors. All-in-all, this appears to be a solid purchase, and I’m excited about getting my UST screen hung and enjoying this bugger in the upcoming winter months!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, great image quality, ok/good sound TLDR: I’m not a hardcore projector guy, but I was very intrigued by the UST class of projectors. Was thinking about getting a xiaomi one but glad that I waited for this instead. Really makes a good case for projector over 4k tv. I especially like how sleek and compact it is. Setup: The unit took me 30 minutes to set it up, have it install all its updates and then set up a chromecast ultra as well. Build Quality: It feels hefty and feels like you’re holding something of value. The black and gray is very sleek too, and almost has an invisible quality to it in a dark room. Definitely feels like the future. Sound Quality: I personally think that the soundbar is a little lacking, but it suffices for an AIO solution if you don’t want to hook up your own system. I shouldn’t be too surprised, as obviously, sound only emanates from (mainly one direction, whereas my ears are used to picking up signals from at least 2 sources. Image Quality: I’m just using it on a white wall and have no complaints about the quality. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well it holds up even when the room is somewhat bright -- the projector is pretty bright itself. All photos taken are of various shows on Netflix Ultra HD on a Pixel 2 XL in a dark room. Overall 4.5/5, guess I'll round it up to 5. This thing is awesome overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall very good quality I bought this projector because it was the only one that met all of the features I was looking for at a price ghat was reasonable. The picture is fantastic and the sound is better than expected. The SmartFIT app was not working well the first several times I tried to use it but eventually I got it working. So far the biggest downsides are the distance of the throw since a 120” screen requires the projector to be so far away from the wall (about 15” and the vertical offset which is much more than initially released. At this point the projector is nearly on the floor which is not what I was looking for. Overall though, those are small gripes for what is a very clear picture, very easy setup, and above average sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great overall UST! First off, the picture quality of this projector is stunning. It's very bright, very sharp, has no banding, and has good motion handling even with PureMotion turned off. 4K/HDR looks absolutely stunning when combined an ALR UST screen. It seriously looks like a 120" LCD panel on a wall. The only issue I am currently experiencing is very high input lag even with all settings turned off (like PureMotion and geometry correction). If this is fixed via a firmware update, this would certainly make this projector the UST to beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome projector I just received my projector today was very excited about it. Looks awesome so far! Now only thing that I would recommend is that depending on what size of screen you have make sure you have the correct size of entertainment center makes a big difference. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful upgrade from 1080p UST I am loving my new Cinemax P1. I am not new to the UST form factor as I am upgrading from an existing 1080p Viewsonic model. Compared to the outgoing model, the picture quality on the P1 is much improved. It's not just the move from 1080p to 4K and HDR support. The Optoma has noticeably better blacks and better contrast. It's also quieter. Input lag is worse but still manageable, unless I'm playing twitch shooter games. The picture from the P1 is bright enough to watch during the day, even without closing blinds in my living room. Keep in mind I own a lenticular screen, which I highly recommend unless you will only be watching content at night. I was surprised by the quality of the built-in speakers. The sound is full and still clear at loud volumes. I already have a receiver and surround sound set up, but I can see myself taking the projector to a friend's house for movie night and relying on the built-in speakers. I haven't had a chance to try out the IFTTT integration but will be setting that up next week-end!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from what an awesome projector! I was really excited to go to a UST projector as my ceilings are rather low and having a regular projector looming over my head while on the couch. I was not disappointed! Now I able to keep my projector on the same table as my center channel and regain that lost headroom. The image from this unit is fantastic as well; way better than the Vava that my friend has. He is regretting his purchase and is trying to return it to get the P1 after seeing mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for me Received this a couple of days ago and it's fantastic My setup: The projector set to 120", connected to a gaming laptop with a RTX 2070 GPU. I do almost everything through the laptop, gaming, Netflix, movies etc 5.1 surround sound system As someone who uses a 43" TV most of the time, the drive to buy a projector was driven by the desire for a much larger screen when watching movies and gaming. I'm projecting it straight onto a slightly yellow mason wall and it's fantastic. Absolutely no complaints with the image quality, though I maintain a dark room. Upgrading from an older 3LCD projector. The resolution at 720p was obviously was dated, but the colours were quite good as it was a 3LCD. However the P1 is an upgrade in every way. I will now get a sample set of screen material to work out which one to use, I'm leaning towards grey to boost black levels (I love the inky black of OLED), but as they typically have a gain of 0.8 I might opt for the brighter white one. An ALR is unfortunately out of budget. Speakers are also best in class for a projector, they're good enough to not need a separate soundbar...it's only worth upgrading if you're getting a solid 3.1 or bigger system. I don't use any of the smart features as it's all through my laptop. I will post a video review soon, albeit on Youtube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Short Review 1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am really excited!!! The image is amazing. The set-up with the screen syncing app boggles my mind at how easy it was to set up. The picture crispness in almost all lighting conditions works great. Rated 5 out of 5 by from goodbye shadows and hello 4K UHD! Just got my Cinemax P1 yesterday. Unboxed it, set up was a breeze, I LOVE the build aesthetic. Thank you for putting a subtle logo on the top only, it looks very clean and fitting for my home with the fabric at the front without any logos--this is big! The sound was incredible and I love that I can use it as a bluetooth speaker as well. The image was bright even with lights on and the colours were amazing. Going to buy an ALR screen next, but if the image already looked this good just on my wall I can't wait to see what it will look like on a proper screen!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing unit, especially considering the price I bought this projector from ProjectorScreen.com with a 120" UST ALR screen and couldn't be any happier! I was debating between this combo and an 85" TV and am confident that I made the right decision. A 120" screen is 2x larger than an 85" TV so I have a HUGE new TV replacement in my family room and don't need to have all the lights off like a traditional home theater. While the integrated sound is surprisingly nice, I still plan on running the audio through my surround sound system. There would be no way I could afford a 120" TV, let alone fit one into my apartment. This thing ROCKS!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Projector This is the first projector I have purchased as I was always skeptical about the picture quality. I don’t think we have come to a point where projectors can beat a TV especially for viewing under light, but we are close. Optoma P1 is just amazing, definitely watchable in daylight conditions but comes out brilliantly during dark. I am currently projecting on my grey color wall, so once I have a dedicated screen the picture quality might surpass even a TV. Having a UST projector also means no mounting and portability. Projector itself is very sturdy, nicely built and is not loud at all. It also looks aesthetically pleasing, I have placed it on an 18-inch high console (low height is a must) and get a good 110-120-inch screen with 8-feet celling height of my movie room. I like that it has backlit remote- a feature that I think should be standard on all devices. I purchased Vava as well, mainly because this projector was out of stock for so long, and I felt that it has slightly better picture quality than the Vava. It is also brighter than the Vava in side by side comparison. Don’t be fooled by the 6000 lumens they advertise. I read somewhere that companies measure lumens differently and Vava’s 6000 lumens are actually equivalent to 2500 lumens of Optoma, which, sounds quite correct as per my side-by-side comparison. In addition, with Optoma P1 you get Dolby Vision and 3D support as well. Vava is white is color, which looks nice, but can be obstructive to some people while watching content in dark. Lastly, image controls/calibration are much more advanced in P1 as compared to Vava. I will return Vava and keep Optoma because of these extra features and the brand name value. Sound quality is quite better than what you get from your stock TV speakers but not great. It is like a soundbar with no subwoofer, and you can’t get good stereo separation as it is not that long. Its loud and clear/crisp but then that’s the end of it- a definite no-go for movies. So, if you are thinking of it as a TV replacement with no dedicated sound system, then maybe yes. Cons- App store is really bad but for me it doesn’t matter as I am using my Apple TV 4K with it. Another con is the in-built sound bar itself, which I found completely useless. Generally speaking, people use projector with a dedicated sound system so most of us are paying premium for a feature that only a small proportion of people will be using. If it mattered to Optoma so much, then they should have come up with 2 models. Having said all of this, it will be unfair to deduct any stars due to these two points. Overall, it is an excellent projector and tough to beat at this price point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CineMax P1 do not connect to Bluetooth devices I pre-ordered this product laste December 2019 and received by January 2020. Picture quality and audio from in-built speakers are exceptional. Noticed two problems - I tried several bluetooth headphones to connect to Optoma CineMax P1 and I could not able to. I saw the message that "Projector is not allowed to connect to bluetooth audio device". Image is flickering occasionally but very frequently (Every 3-4 seconds). But most of the time it's stable. Not sure why this inconsistency. Tried to customer service, but it always directly goes to voicemail and mailbox is always full and allowing me to record my concerns!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We're in the future Pros - The project is completely silent which is amazing. My last projector’s fan was so loud, we had to turn up the volume just to hear it. - It turns on and off really fast. My old projector uses to take a few minutes for both. - It is ridiculously bright - almost too bright, I had to turn it down a little - never thought I’d be doing that for a projector though. It’s a good complaint to have. - It was really easy to setup. Just stick it in front of a wall and make sure it’s straight, done. - The settings menu is quite responsive. - The picture is incredible, coming from a 1080p projector, it’s ridiculously crisp. I usually wouldn’t ever use a mode with “Sim” in the name, but the “HDR Sim” mode really does a great job of adding depth to non-HDR content. I love it. Cons - The color / gamma seemed to change scene-to-scene every so often, but I think they just fixed it with an update (November 7th, 2019). - To change the input source, I need to go back to the home page of the OS on the projector and click right 4 or 5 times to select the other input. It would be better to be able to change from the remote like every other TV / projector. - The remote uses Bluetooth, but sometimes it disconnects without telling you and uses IR instead, which is ten times worse and makes the whole interface appear unresponsive and laggy. It’s easy to fix though. Overall, I’m very happy with it. Amazing picture quality, brightness, and it’s completely silent and boots up / shuts down super fast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Transformed my living room into a theater Loving the heck out of this projector. Puts out a crystal clear 4k 100 display on my Elitescreens UST ALR screen. Colors are bright and the contrast is excellent. The built-in speakers produce nice boomy audio but I've chosen to connect it to my 5.1 system via the optical out. I've included a picture to show the contrast and colors. Did my best to manually set the camera to accurately portray how it really looks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best UST projector in its class! This is the 4th projector I've purchased, and the second ultra-short throw projector. I've built two home theaters from scratch, so I definitively fall into the home theater geek category. The projector seems very well built, and it's stylish, so you don't need to be ashamed of having this projector in your living room. Even the remote control has a premium feel to it and is intuitive to use. I'm also very happy that the projector is so silent, so it does not ruin quiet scenes in movies. The picture quality is breathtaking! I didn't think going from 1080P to 4K would give that much improved picture quality, since I could not see the pixels with my 1080P projector either. Many people say HDR makes a bigger difference than having 4 times as many pixels. But boy, what a difference! Watched some nature videos, and it was like looking out the window. My eyes were tricked into believing what I saw was real. And I don't see any rainbow effect at all. I have great light control in my man-cave, but this projector is plenty bright enough for usage even with some daylight. I can also definitively see that this projector has a far broader color palette than any of my previous projectors from competitors. The sound is surprisingly good. On par with a decent soundbar. Like pretty much all soundbars, it's not bass heavy, so if you like heavy bass, you probably would want to pair it with an external subwoofer. I would recommend that you place the projector on a TV bench no taller than 20", as otherwise the picture might get too high on the wall -- depending on your liking. This is my first projector from Optoma, but the CinemaX P1 has impressed me so much that it will not be the last one for sure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW.. It blew us of away right of the box ! This is our first projector and didn’t know what to expect. After reading all the reviews decided to give it a shot on the projector first before buying any screen. B&H delivered it within 24 hours after ordering. Set up took an hour approx. as I took it easy and projecting on a wall with cream color paint to test it out. It upgraded the software/firmware t the start. This projector blew us off with the very impressive picture quality on a wall is bend and have lot of nicks and dents. Build quality is excellent and quite sturdy and heavy including the remote. Set up was not that bad and did it without reading any manual. Audio quality is really great and good enough but for some the punch may not be there (5.1 type effect). SD video playback is excellent and not an issue. Tested few youtube 4K videos and it is like real life. Can’t wait to get a good CLR UST screen which should make a day and night difference in the picture quality if it can do this well in a normal wall. Fan noise is not noticeable at all. Looks very sleek as well. Distance are similar to what folks mentioned in the AVS forum. Since I don’t have a screen yet, have to measure next to figure out the options. Keeping it on the floor now. Didn’t get a chance to test all the functions or apps yet. Definitely a great product and worth the money. If you are on the edge don’t think..go for it and won’t regret. Highly recommended. Great product and Kudo’s to the Optomo team for making this awesome product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Movie Cinema Quality Received my P1 on Dec 27. It was easier to setup than a normal flat screen since it's not as unwieldy. I was expecting the unit to be larger than I expected based on some reviews, but it was actually smaller. Build, fit and finish look great! Environment - basement with 2 escape windows coming off the right about 8 feet from the edge of the screen. Four flood lights in the ceiling. Screen - beige drywall for now. Projector placed for 120 inch display (used the box it came in on as a table with the far end of the box 30 inches away from the wall. The projector is uncalibrated. It came with the picture set to Game, but I think I prefer Cinema. Picture With Lights On - it is slightly washed out but still good under bright flood lights. My holiday guests watched Netflix all day with the lights on and never complained. I was surprised that no one noticed any color issues (me either) with it on the beige wall. I displayed it anywhere from 80 to 150 inches. I heard that Optoma doesn't recommend going over 120 inches, but honestly it still looked good - especially at dusk or with no or a few lights on. Picture With Lights Off - exceptional - fantastic even on beige dry wall. Everyone told me I didn't need to buy a screen. I feel like I'm at the movie theater - period. My XYScreens Pet Crystal ALR 120 inch screen came in Saturday, 28 Dec. I put it together the screen together the next day. I had half the picture on the screen and half the picture on the drywall to see the impact of the screen: Lights on - it's a remarkable improvement as the screen BLOCKS out the light from above. It's almost, but not as good as drywall at night (no light). You can watch this projector all day long in daylight with an ALR screen. Lights out - with the screen, the colors and blacks are much richer than the drywall (no surprise). If I were penny pinching then I would not get the screen in my setup since I primarily use the basement in the evening or at night. The screen also provides a more cinema-like setting. Without the screen, the rooms seems like it doesn't even have a tv in it. Features - I love the geometric correction - it is very easy to level out the picture from top to bottom and left to right. The need for the correction is more evident when you view menu screens in things like Netflix where things are aligned horizontally and vertically. I corrected the few variations in under 2 minutes without using the app. The variations were likely caused by my drywall which probably isn't flush. I read that some tvs/projectors have issues when switching from HDR to non-HDR content. I didn't notice this problem with the Optoma HDR setting at AUTO. Roku-The roku remote does turn on the Optoma and controls the volume since I have everything connected through HDMI ARC. That is a big plus. I haven't used the native apps because I have the Roku and know that apps on other devices aren't supported as well as the Roku. Bear in mind that I haven't perfomed any calibration or read the manual (I haven't found the need to). After reading projector reviews for a year I am extremely happy with the picture and features of the P1. This is my first projector and I love it. Next - need to find a stand for it to sit on or maybe even a low ceiling mount that would sit right in front of the wall. Then put up my screen. I never thought of using a ceiling mount for an UST, but I'm curious about how clean it could possibly look. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Large-screen TV Alternative TL;DR: If you want a 'TV' of 85"+ you should have the P1 projector on your short list. First Impressions: Setup is extremely simple. Just remove it from the box, plug it in, and there's a 120" 'TV' on the wall ready to go. After this setup, I can't imagine ever buying a 'normal' projector again. The picture quality is solid, especially in a dark room. If you plan to watch with the lights on, you'll want an ALR/CLR screen (this is true of any projector, so no slight to the P1. The sound quality is good and easily better than most TVs available today, but it's not a replacement for a full 5.1+ system. Color out of the box is good--probably some room for calibration, but that'll have to wait until I've hung the ALR screen. For those who care about the aesthetics, the device itself feels solidly built and looks nice. I'm especially pleased that Optoma went with a dark case instead of the white that some other companies are using--it really looks great next to all of my other components and is completely unnoticeable when watching a movie. Caveats: -There is a slight fan noise while running... it's not noticable at all if there is any sound, but in a completely silent moment (or during setup) you can hear it from 5-10ft. -The available apps aren't great--personally I'd always prefer to just use an Xbox or Roku for Netflix and the like with any display, so it doesn't matter to me... but if you were planning to use this as an all in one, you might want to consider an external media player. -Avoid using smartfit if you're planning on using the projector for gaming as that will help ensure you experience the minimum input lag. If you're just using it for movies and TV, take advantage of the easy setup. Overall: Ultimately, for the price this is being offered at this is an extremely competitive alternative to a large screen TV. Especially if you're looking for anything beyond 85", this is a no brainer to at least consider. Certainly there are aspects that could be better but for the price, features, and quality this is a 5/5 for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great potential, but concerning problems I just received my projector today, and have it set up projecting on the bare wall. The picture and brightness are impressive, however I've had several issues with it already. 1- The projected image height is higher than what it should be based on the "image height * .24" formula given before release. I did a lot of measuring before making my preorder, and should have had a few inches to spare between the top of the image and the ceiling. Now that I have it set up, I cannot reach 120" without the image extending on to my ceiling. At 115", the largest screen size I can fit on my wall, the bottom of the image is 18" above the table the projector is sitting on, not 13". This means I can't use the 120" screen I purchased unless I buy a new entertainment stand, which isn't something I'm willing to do. 2- The remote is extremely buggy. I may try switching it into IR only mode to see if that helps, but the buttons only work about half the time. 3- When on the main menu the right half of the screen flickers different colors and blacks out intermittently. I attached a few pictures. I haven't noticed this while watching TV through an HDMI input. Maybe I just have a bad unit, but since there are so few other reviews its hard to know how widespread these problems could be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I've been waiting for! Just like many others, I've been waiting for this projector for more than a year now. It is finally here! And it looks amazing! It was a bit hard to locate it correctly in relation to the screen to get the SmartFit App to work. I ended up putting it 16 inches away from the wall for a 110" screen. I thought it would be much closer (about 12 inches). But I eventually got it to work. And like I said before, it looks amazing! The ALR screen is an absolute must. I went all out with an SI screen. Pricey, but worth it. Even with a huge window right beside the screen, again, the picture looks amazing! LOL. I included a picture of this. This projector is really worth the price. Others seem like they may provide the same quality picture, but they're much more expensive. I'm definitely happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never going to a movie theater again I’ve been anticipating this projector for a while now. I did the research, searched around, and looked for a projector with the specs I wanted. Laser, Ultra Short Throw, High Lumens and 4K (pixel shifted or not). Coming from a 1080p normal projector, I don’t think I was ready for the sharpness, brightness and all around picture quality of this projector. I’m excited to get the rest of my home theater system hooked up to it and watch my favorite movies in 120” of 4K amazingness. I’ll be posting a YouTube review shortly as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Short Review 1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 4k Projector for Novices Bought this as an upgrade to an existing 1080p projector setup. A markedly noticeable improvement in detail (thanks to 4k) and color (thanks to HDR). Being ultra short throw and with the built-in Soundbar, I was able to consolidate my setup and cut down on all the wires everywhere. Setup: Super easy to set up. Liked the included guide bars to get the screen size I wanted. Remote is basic but functional and is backlit which is a bonus. Took a bit to understand what buttons did what when pressing vs. holding. Took less than 15 minutes to be up and running with everything swapped over from the old setup, but I had preplanned certain things. You'll definitely need a surface low to the ground if you plan to project a larger image, especially if you have low ceilings. Video: I don't have anything to judge against that's similar in spec but I am more than happy with the quality it gives so far. Super bright in HDR content and able to see a lot more detail compared to my previous projector. Lots of settings to adjust the video settings for those who want things just right. I'm sure it'll look even better when paired with an UST designed screen. There's a little washout with lights on in the room but that's to be expected. Sound: I'm not an audiophile but from initial testing, the Soundbar does the job. It won't be a replacement for dedicated surround sound setups and the like, but it's more than decent if you want something integrated without even more equipment. Smart Features: I have to knock a star from here. They weren't the primary reason I purchased the projector but would be nice to have if they worked better and supported higher resolutions. I couldn't get the Infowall app to work properly based on my location and my city name is in multiple states and it didn't have a way to differentiate them. Most of the streaming programs don't support HD video, let alone 4k or HDR. Easily solved by having another smart device like an Apple TV or Roku or the like but it's another device and remote to keep track of when using. Misc: There is an HDMI Link feature that will turn on and off connected devices with the projector to simplify things for you. It's great in theory but it kept accidentally turning my linked PS4 Pro and itself on for some reason so I had to disable it. Gaming on it seemed fine to me for casual use even though it's refresh rate is higher than may be desired for competitive or picky players. It's also great that people can walk in and out and around the room without blocking the screen since it's not projecting across the entire room like traditional projectors. Overall: If you're looking for an ultra short throw projector that won't break the bank too bad and gives you features like 4k and HDR (and 3D support), along with having actual audio capabilities built-in, this is definitely one to look at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from prefect replacement of TV I pre-ordered Optoma P1 on Amazon and was told it was out of stock after 01OCT, so I called projectorpeople and fortunately got one of the last 6 stocks. The setup was easy, I would suggest to install the ALR screen after the projector is settled as you may need to adjust the height of the screen. The Smartfit app is impressive and helps fit the image on the screen perfectly. The picture looks amazing, the sound is pretty good. No TV in my house from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, great image quality, ok sound TLDR: I’m not a hardcore projector guy, but I was very intrigued by the UST class of projectors. I especially like how sleek and compact it is. Setup: The unit took me 30 minutes to set it up and have it install all its updates. Build Quality: It feels hefty and feels like you’re holding something of value. The black and gray is very sleek too, and almost has an invisible quality to it in a dark room. Definitely feels like the future. Sound Quality: I personally think that the soundbar is lacking, but it suffices for an AIO solution if you don’t want to hook up your own system. Out of the box, it just sounds very linear and unimpressive. But it's pretty easy to modify. Image Quality: I’m just using it on a white wall and have no complaints about the quality. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well it holds up even when the room is somewhat bright -- the projector is pretty bright itself. The photos speak for themselves. Overall 4.5/5, guess I'll round it up to 5. This thing is awesome overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great projector! Great projector with very high potential, but I experienced the same issues as the previous person described. The image is flickering on the home screen. I haven't seen this issue during the movie yet. The remote control is buggy I'm not to worry about these issues, because I'm sure Optoma will address it. The picture quality is exceptional. Also, image offset guide 49'' x .24 = 11.76'' that floating around is completely wrong. I have to move the screen because of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from By far the best projector out there right now 1 - This things is amazingly easy to setup. I had it out of the box and projecting on my screen in under 10 minutes. Five minutes of that was making minor adjustments to get the image just right 2 - HDR on this thing is amazing. I have even seen a TV that looked this good. It's the first time that I have seen that HDR WOW factor I've been hearing about. I just really never noticed it other displays. 3 - The sound is INCREDIBLE. Honestly, I was not expecting this kind of sound from this thing. It's comparable to the higher ends sounds bars out there. 4 - Games are visually stunning, especially 4K HDR games on my Xbox One X. I have enjoyed hours of games so far and have even gone back to some older games I have already beaten just due to the visual difference from my older projector 5 - I love being able to get up and stand right in front of the P1. This was not possible with standard throw projectors as the bulb is coming from behind. Even at a 100 inches, I can't see any pixels no matter how far away from the screen I am. With my first 720p projector, I could notice pixels from about 3ft. With 1080p, it was about 10 inches. 6 - The sharpness of this projector is hands down amazing. It's the best out of the box projector I've ever owned and I've hardly adjusted any of the settings 7 - While I didn't buy this projector for the smart features they have turned out to be an amazing addition as I can control it via Alexa or Google Assistant on my phone. 8 - Almost no fan noise, even with the sound muted. As someone that has had to deal with a projector almost directly above me, you immediately realize that you no longer have to ignore the fan or turn the volume up to drown out the fan noise 9 - I was skeptical of pre-ordering the P1. The fact of all the various awards it had already won and the fact that it included a soundbar made this the first display I've ever pre ordered and I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. This things is worth every penny. 10 - Black levels, this has always been one weakness of DLP. Not with the P1. Black levels are extremely accurate with amazing contrast 11 - Such vivid colors. Out of the box, the colors are amazing. Once you start changing a few settings it only gets better 12 - This thing is BRIGHT. So bright that I have to lower the brightness in a dark room. I do turn it up during the day so I don't get any wash out from ambient light In conclusion, I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this thing. Maybe the only downside is the built in marketplace needs time to mature.

The wait was over last evening, I got projector delivered. It cane in a very sturdy and secure packing. I can't wait for swithing it ON. So, I decided to project on my guest bedroom wall. It took few secs to start and the few mins to update. I installed the Connect App. The installation was very straight forward and self explonatory. Then I started streaming couple of videos, to my surprise, it was AMAZING. Then, I decided to imeedeately setup in my movie theater in the basement. We watched couple of 4K videos, it was mindblowing experience. The sound quality was good (I felt it good because I have a more powerful 7.2 channel speaker setup). Overall, the picture quality, build quality, the OS interface etc. is really AWESOME.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time UST owner very impressed I received the P1 today and got it all setup as soon as it arrived. Full disclosure, I'm not an avid AV person by any stretch so my views are very simple and from someone not experience with setting these things up or analyzing color wheels, black levels, etc. Anyhow, I had seen some initial specs on recommended dimensions for distance from screen (horizontally and veritcally and had mounted my fixed 120" ALR screen according to what I had seen. Once I opened up the box I didn't find any of the same directions or dimensions on any instructions. I guess I was supposed to scan the QR code which takes you to the website product page and gives a distance calculator, etc. I may have missed it, but I wish I had that prior to ordering and setting up my screen ahead of time, because it ended up being off and I had to move my screen up around an inch. Not the end of the world but it delayed me from getting to the good stuff. Once I finally figured out placement and messing around with that for a while, the SmartFit app was a breeze and fit the image to the screen perfectly. Very impressive! The only downside on the placement piece is that I have a bigger space between the wall and the cabinet than I had originally anticipated. I'll hopefully figure something out in the future, but it's not horrible as is. Sure beats throwing a couple grand extra out for the LG comparable model. I chose to use an ethernet connection instead of wifi, and would recommend turning off wifi so it doesn't keep prompting you onscreen that it found an open network. Out of the box there was an app update for optoma connect on the home screen. It went quick though and didn't delay the setup process. I Speaking of home screen, I didn't mess around with it too much but it has netflix and prime and a couple others on the main page. I didn't delve into the market place yet, however. Stepping back to the initial setup, there's a quick setup guide that has 6 or 7 steps to walk you through plugging in and pairing the remote, etc. I followed the remote pairing per the instructions, the there was an onscreen setup process which ended up wanting me to pair the remote again a second time, before continuing on. That ended up hanging me up a few minutes because it kept sending me back a step when trying to pair the remote(you use the home button and back button to put into pairing mode and I guess I must've been hitting back a millisecond before home). I got through it eventually but that part was a bit redundant from the initial step. Once I got all of the initial setup out of the way I was able to test out some features. First, the audio was noticeably good from the built-in sound bar. I don't have a separate audio system at this time, so this is a welcome and quite good feature to have on this unit. I'll likely look to hook up a sub to provided some even more enhanced audio, it's very good as is. The picture quality is amazing as well. Again, first time UST owner so wasn't sure what to expect and honestly went out on a limb and kinda blindly purchased this unit since it check all the boxes of what I was looking for. I couldn't be happier so far, and yes it even looks good in ambient like(I have 6 really bright recessed lights above the screen area and it was fine even with all of those on. It has 3 HDMI inputs(2 on back 1 on the side). I used the input on the side to connect a laptop and it worked well for that use case. Others may potentially prefer all 3 on the back but the side input definitely can serve a purpose. Once you get the remote paired via bluetooth its works fine. Mine was almost dead out of the box and was flashing red(perhaps maybe part of the reason I had an iffy setup experience with it). It has a rechargeable battery and just plugs in via usb cable to charge (and yes it can be used while plugged in and charging). I haven't had a chance to mess with the display settings but the presets suited me just fine out of the box. I'm sure there are some enhancements that I'll look to the experts for advice on, but you can't go wrong with the settings out of the box. You can faintly here the fan operate, but not really noticeable when you have audio playing. However, if you place the unit in high altitude mode, the fan revs up and is extremely loud. I had to tested it out because I'm in Denver, but it wouldn't be usable with that mode on, so it's off for me, and I'm unsure of the long term effects of this operating at high altitude like Denver. Overall, if you're thinking about this solution instead of a giant TV, then go for it, you won't be disappointed! P.S. I have a UST ALR 120" from XY screens and it seems to work well. I don't have anything else I've tested it against however.
