Rugged and well made, but not so well designed?
The soft case has 2 hard points; one on both edges of the case. They are intended to lock firmly to the rigid plastic belt clip. However, they are offset from the center of the case directly opposite of each other. This works when the phone is carried on the right side of your belt, but not on the left side of the belt. Whoever designed this did not think about how the hard points should be different on each side to line up with the clip.

Indestructible, fairly utilitarian
I'd like a wider variety of designs, but gotta say, this thing is gonna make it hard for me to break my phone. I would love to see easier-to-open headphone jack and charger tabs, these are many-time-a-day-use areas that are difficult to access now.

Best Case I've ever used
I bought the Otterbox Defender for my Google Pixel 3a and dang it's great! I go on road everyday and hop in and out of big truck and would worry about my phone falling out or whatnot. With this case I don't worry as much, and I just love the feel of the case, so grippy and easy to hang on to, especially with the raised sides around the screen. I don't have to worry about not having a good hold and dropping it. It doesn't slide easy once setting phone down on it's back or front, which is great. Yes, the case makes the phone a little bigger (I no longer can set it inside the small cupholder in my work truck, but it still fits great in my upper chest pocket on my coat). This case is great, all I can say. Much better than the other cases I tried beforehand. This truly does feel Defended.

Owned for Years...and a Quality Product
I've owned an Otterbox Defender case for over three years... with three different phones (IPhone and Android). I constantly drop my phone, so I know I needed sturdy protection.
A military friend saw the case on my phone and asked about it. I showed him the multiple layers of protection and told him about the rigorous tests used to demonstrate it's protective qualities. Next thing I know, I soon see an Otterbox on his phone!
Worth every dollar spent.

Love my defender!
I had a defender for my iPhone 6s because I am the type of person who drops their phone all the time! My phone was protected and safe for the whole 3-4 years of use with the defender case and no insurance! Got this one again for my new Google Pixel...LOVE IT. Never using another case again!

Great protection for your device
I bought this a month ago and I love the color and protection for my device I put it on and two days later I dropped my device with nothing happening. I am still trying to figure out why there is no protection for the screen but it works great for me.

Defense you can trust
Defense you can trust... I have a pixel 3 XL and purchase the pixel 3 a for my mom always use OtterBox cases and they have constantly saved my mobile device I have had cases so long where I was able to reach out to the outer box and get a new one after that when can I you know lost its shape or after a few falls the clips come a loose but the phone was always in pristine condition. All of my phones look brand-new because of the defender case. Much as I love my not pink pixel 3XL to pay almost $1,000 for a phone and not get a case that is equipped for lifes incidence would be crazy I much prefer a big old bulky case then to drop and lose $1,000.

Long Time Fan of the Otterbox!
I've switched phones many times, but I always protect them with the Otterbox. It always pays off because I occasionally drop my phone, but I never have a cracked screen like I see on others' phones.

I used to buy cheap imitations on the jungle site.
Otter box is the only way to go. Never again will I get a cheap imitation. In my work as a fire fighter, it really provides the protection I need. The warranty is great too.

Great Product!
Just bought this case for my new Pixel 3A. Fits perfectly. Would have liked a few more color options. Tired of all black cases. However the Dark Lake color did the trick. Looking forward to the protection it will provide. My last phone screen shattered due to having a low budget case... Thanks OB!

As now installed seems fine; am happy with the mechanical / protective "feel. Phone performance has been adversely affected-- I'm not sure. Jury still out on that re dropped calls / dead spots during calls. Don't know
The installation was concerning, requiring very large forces to snap the phone into the OB. Heard kind of a "crack" noise; don't know if from the OB or the phone. Phone briefly went into recovery mode (altho power was off) as this occurred. Don't know if any damage or not. Phone seems to be performing nominally OK (except, as said above, TBD on performance with signal / reception)……. Do you have data that says the polycarbonate material has zero performance on the RF performance?

Decent Quality, Questionable design decisions
Departing from original design of OtterBox defender cases, this one also lacks an integrated screen protector. Marketing material inside then insults by trying to spin it as a benefit to users with curved screens (not this phone). Case overmold is of the same questionable design that will cause port covers to fail in a year or 2, which is unfortunate since this phone has to charge from usb. External belt clip is not designed symmetrical, so the phone must be inserted in a specific orientation or the clips don't engage. After approximately 15-20 insertions into the holder, the cheap, low durometer TPE material has already begun to show rub marks from the clips.

Missed two
I was very happy with the previous piece I used on my Samsung, so I purchased Defender again for my new Pixel 3a. In new design I found wrong location of the lock for the belt clip, not allowing the lock after 180 deg. rotation.
Also, I missed the screen protector.

High quality case, very few problems
This is a very good case. It feels sturdy, doesn't add too much bulk, and is comfortable to hold. Defender series for other phones have a plastic screen protector, which I do miss. I appreciate the holster, though it is slightly lacking. Other Defenders have symmetrical holsters, allowing the phone to be attached in several positions. This holster can only be mounted either screen out or screen in.

my wife phone, she had a cheap case dropped the phone and screen cracked. i talked her into an OTTER case and i am now 100% confident that her phone is protected..ive used OTTER cases on phone and iPad with 100% confidence its protected.

Good purchase
I bought this as I had heard great comments about it. The one thing I do not care for is the button to turn on and off is very stiff and I have to find the "sweet" swot to activate the button on the phone.

I keep coming back to Otter + smart packaging
Ive had this case a month now and as always it performs better than expected. I do wish it had a built in screen protector. The packaging when shipping directly from Otterbox was environmentally sound.

I have had Otter Boxes for my last several phones. I just got a new Pixel phone so automatically got an Otter Box for it. I was very disappointed that it did not have a screen protector (the others all had one, now I need to make a separate purchase for the screen protector, not happy). It is also very stiff. I mean, the phone going into the clip is not smooth and I'm never sure it is actually secure. My last ones all had a small indent that "clipped" (that's a little clipping sound) so I knew it was seated properly. This one just sort of rubs it's way tight mostly. I just looked and there is a small indent, but for some reason, oh, I see now, the phone only goes in one way. I never had that issue with the other ones.
Besides no screen protection and the one way clip, I love the Otter Box and would never consider having a phone with no Otter Box. They do cost a lot though.

Love my Otter!
The first one I purchased was 5 years ago and not a scratch on my phone! I debated between another Otter and a leather case. When I do drop my phone it is when I am getting out of the car, mostly, and I drop it on cement or roadway... so I need something that I trust to really protect my phone. In the end I went with Otter, love the look and for the protection it is worth it!

Ok case...a little expensive
case is ok, i dont hate it but have found another case with a built in screen protector that i like better that offers similar protection for way cheaper from another brand i trust and have used before. i wish i would have waited and not have ordered this but i guess its nice to have a $80 backup case lol

A Defender Case with No Screen?
I purchased this and obviously did not read that this is a "screenless" version. The reason is that I did not know that they even made one. They even act like this is selling factor. The case is no less expensive and now I have to buy a screen protector as well. This is my last Otterbox.

My wife dropped my previous phone on the sidewalk and shattered the display so I wanted a better case for my new phone. A co-worker recommended the Otterbox case because his phone has successfully survived multiple drops over the past 4 years. The case is well made, with all of its parts fitting very nicely together, as well as around the phone. The written instructions for installing the phone were confusing to both my wife and I. But we found a YouTube video illustrating the process, which is actually quite easy. Also purchased the Amplify Screen Protector, which is also a high quality item. As is the belt clip. And Ottobox including the clip with the case is a nice bonus (my co-worker said he had to pay extra for his. Now hopefully my phone is well protected...I guess I'll find out the first time it is dropped on a hard surface.

Pixel 3a Case
Bought this for the wifey's new phone- initially felt like overkill with a new sleek phone, but well worth the cost. Not overly chunky, makes the phone alot more comfortable to use for long periods.
The 'squeeze' function on the Pixel 3a still works with this case, only negative thing is doesn't come with a screen protector/overlay, so still have original screen face with this case

Rugged enough to be baby-resistant
I bought an OtterBox defender years ago for my BlackBerry Q10 (yeah, that long ago.
When I got my Google Pixel 3a, I was a little disappointed how thin and fragile it seemed. The Otterbox Defender makes it feel nice and rugged now!
Most importantly, it protects my phone from the beating my 16-month-old has been subjecting it too: Tossing, dropping, teething, the OtterBox is helping my phone survive.
Yes, it doesn't come with a screen protector, but there are LOTS of choices for that on the market.

It's alright, would like a screen cover integrated
It's alright, it does its job but I would prefer if it had a screen protector built into the front part that clips into the hard shell of the case to keep it sealed tight from dust and water. As a union carpenter I get a lot of dust and water on my phone on construction sites. And currently there aren't even screen protectors that are available for the Pixel 3A. I have to use the belt clip to keep the screen safe until Otterbox or Dbrand puts out a screen protector which stinks and that's another $30-40+ purchase.

Not Bad for a New Phone
I purchased a new Pixel 3a. Hard to find a cover for it right now. Otterbox Defender is very good. I wish it was completely encased and waterproof though. But I won't worry if I drop it. Had to get a glass protector separately. Could have had a few more color options also.

Incredibly Durable Case
Bought this a few months ago and am seriously happy I did. Use it as a tour guide day in and day out and this case has taken some serious hard knocks without flinching. The belt clip is also an awesome accessory that makes it easy to keep your phone handy in any circumstance.
All told it's a great product.

Great Fit!
I had this style cover years ago & my husband especially loved it as it's a bit larger & non skid. He has large hands & was always dropping my other phone with the Otterbox Symmetry cover. I was worried the Defender would be too large for the cell pocket in my purse. But it fits! Only I wish there were more colors to choose from for the Google Pixel 3a.

OtterBox Defender is a great case but...
I bought this a few weeks ago for my new Pixel 3A. I have only used Defender cases and this is my third. Sure it's a little bulky and gets VERY warm outside in the summer sun but that's the price you pay for protection. The arrangement of the openings is great. There are rubber coverings for the charging port and the headphone jack. The area around the fingerprint sensor nicely guides the finger to the sensor. The only change that I don't like is the loss of the built-in screen protection. The screen is bare and getting smudged up.

Good Protection
After weeks of use I am more than happy with my case. I've used Otterbox with other phones and they have proven to be durable. The case makes the side buttons and "squeeze" feature a little harder to use, but that may get easier with use. My only complaint is that the case is a very tight fit in the supplied belt clip, which makes it more difficult to attach the phone and be confident that it is secure. This isn't an issue for me as I prefer to use a different belt case, but others may not be happy with the supplied belt clip.

Good purchase
Fits very well, and it wasn't hard to figure out how to put it on. I like how it gives me a much more secure grip on my phone. Despite that, I have dropped my phone twice with no damage to it! I like the purple color also.

Otter box has kept phones safe & secure for years
upgraded my phone and immediately bought an otter box for it. Anxiety level was high until it arrived and my phone was secure. This is the fourth otter box I've purchased and I've never been disappointed even though I'm known to throw my phone across the room (accidentally, I'm a klutz, not an angry person).

Good case, could be better with more options
The otterbox design is nice, durable and a little slimmer from the otterboxes of old. My only gripe with the case is that I wish otterbox offered a screenless and a screened version of the case (like in the 2014-2015 models where the screen protector was included as part of the frame).
I know some people liked this while others didn't. But it would be nice if they offered the consumer an option if they wanted the included screen protector or not. If they could bring back the screen protector version (or at least offer two variants of the defender case with/without the screen protector, that would be good too)
I've only had it for a few weeks, so I can't comment about durability or longevity at this time. But on first impressions alone, it should last the life cycle of the device.
