Xerox VersaLink C505/S - multifunction printer - color is rated 3.90 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great print quality but faults too much Setup was fairlyy easy. The print quality and speed are great. However, it seems like this thing errors every 3 fax or copy jobs. It is constantly throwing errors that lock it up. I spend entirely too much time deleting jobs or restarting the machine. I've reached out to support a couple of times only to get nothing more than being told what the error code means. No help at all on why it faults so much. I would not purchase again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We're thinking of bringing it out back and taking sledgehammers to it a la Office Space We thought this product was just what we needed for our growing offices. Upgrading from a table top version but this machine is not intuitive at all. Even with "field support" from our leasing company, they have trouble finding a way to get it to consistently do jobs we ask it to do or to hold settings. Sometimes, you need to tell it in the driver what you need to do and sometimes, it must be done standing at the screen but nobody including the manual has a good way of knowing when those times are. I honestly had Xerox tech support try to tell me that the problem I was having was due to the fact that I was trying to print a JPG file. Um, why have a color copier printer with all of these auto select features if I can't print a picture? Yup, they told me that from now on, I would have to paste my JPGs into a WORD document if I wanted to print them because the copier doesn't recognize "fancy programs". We have yet to go a full day without someone nearly losing their minds because this machine won't do what it is supposed to do. If you're looking for a copier, this isn't it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We always have issues with this printer We have had one thing after another go wrong with this printer. The first time we got one Xerox had to exchange it out as a lemon. Something inside it exploded and it was printing parts out. They claim it's plug and play for repairs, so they rarely send out technicians, but when we do make repairs, following all instructions, 9 times out of 10, something goes wrong and we have to insist someone comes out to fix it. It constantly jams. There's no way to print a fax confirmation page. If you don't press done after copying something on the glass, and someone else goes to scan something, it has a conniption until you go back to the copy screen and press "Done." This is the least user friendly printer/copier I've ever used, and I've used plenty. It makes me miss our beast of a Ricoh that was ancient but faithful. We had to get rid of it because they stopped making the parts. At least it worked. Stay away from this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with our new printer! We have gone through tons of printers in our front office and so far the new Xerox has surpassed them all. Print quality, speed and ease of use is great. We also like the ease of use when it comes to re-ordering supplies. So far so Great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is extremely finicky We have found this printer to be extremely finicky. It doesn't respond readily to input changes to paper output. For example, you have to open and close the paper drawer for home screen to prompt you to confirm/change the paper supply. Additionally, you get an error message if you put an item that is less than the size of an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper on the glass to be copied. So you have to put the item on the glass with a piece of full sized copy paper on top of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall great printer! Printer has great print quality and the printer is simple to use. We use this up front in the receptionist office but it is shared among the office for colored copies. I like that it has the option to have secure print w/ password protection. You can send private documents to print out on the printer that will be held in the spool until you go in put in your password to release. The speed of the printer is overall good. The only down would be once the printer goes to sleep the time it takes to wake up again, but once it is up it printers very quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DOA Unit We bought the printer from a national distributor. The printer was installed and set-up. The top document feeder jams paper while scanning documents. Xerox has dispatched a service tech promptly. But the service tech said that printer was defective and recommended to have it replace from the vendor. It is a big hassle to return a printer like this and a huge disappointment of the quality. After further reading of reviews on this printer, we will probably just return it for refund and take the loss on shipping cost, and select comparable model from a different manufacturer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loud printer and nagging software This printer is being used in a smaller company environment. It sees regular, but not heavy use. The print quality is good but the page ejection can be very loud. Sometimes it sounds like the ejection mechanism gears are being stripped, but they appear to be fine. The worst thing about the printer is the Xerox software--it continually nags you to register the printer, buy legitimate Xerox ink, rate the printer, etc. Each time you set up a new computer, the nag sequence starts all over again. Selecting the "Don't show this again" only seems to kill the one type of message out of many. I would NOT buy the printer just because of the nagware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This printer is very disappointing I have had Xerox printers in the past, this one is not very good. The print quality is average to poor, when i switch between tray 1 and bypass, if it works at all, i have to go to the printer to manually do it, changing the settings at my computer never works. To adjust between paper and envelopes at the bypass is a confusing and difficult process. I dread having to change the type of paper i am using with this printer. I would not buy one of these again. The message about low toner appears well before it needs to. Overall, not a very good printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to use, scanner broken after 280 scans and 800 impressions I rarely use the printer. This is my first color printer. I'm impressed with the speed of the printer and scanner. Sometimes it stuck and you need to play with buttons on printer so I vote 4 stars. Because sometimes you need to print something fast but instead you need to play with printer warnings and stucks for several minutes. Quality are good for office printer, but you will get poor quality as for photo printing even on xerox colortech+ photopaper with photomode printed from photos taken with iphone 12 pro. My biggest disappointment that scanner broken after 280 scanned pages. Looks like broken scanning head or FFC cable (error 632-380). Overall impressions is 800. I can not find parts to repair it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Fast and excellent print quality This is a BIG money machine for small money. It has taken the place of and improved the printing capabilities of a much larger color networked printer. I highly recommend it if the monthly print volume meets your requirements. It has made work easier and faster for all of us in this office.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid product at a good price The 505 has proven to be a real and valuable workhorse. Bought it and installed it myself on an older Windows 7 system and it plugged right in and went to work right away. It required some work to make operational when we upgraded to a Windows 10 network. had to find answers on youtube since the owners' manual left out critical information but once I solved the issue, my valued workhorse came back. I recommend this machine to anyone that's looking for a reliable tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bluetooth constantly stops working This printer has great print quality and the toners last a good while. The only thing that is an issue is the Bluetooth connection Constantly stops working. I have to uninstall the printer and install it and download the drivers for it. Also, sometimes it does not revert back to the original paper settings after I print with the top door compartment. Other than that it is a great printer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good printer - NO FAX - BAD Support We bought this printer for our office, we have few other Xerox products already. Very pricey for the features considering that came with NO FAX option !!! We call XEROX support ... hours and hours on the phone, nobody figure out why no FAX, or why FAX was missing ?! One tech said that our model HAS NO FAX "C505S" only C505X has fax and cost $700 more ??? On all XEROX wes sites on all the pictures on all the specs FAX is there !!! Finally XEROX admitted that was a WEB issue ??? ALMOST impossible to return it ... over a month in the process of return and finally we received RMA but no return label ... Very bad customer support on $2400 printer ?! If you don't need FAX option ... is a good pricey printer. Instead you can get jut the printer only Versalink C500 without Copy/Scan option for only 1/3 of the price for $790 ... instead of pricey Versalink C505S for $2400 Print/Copy/Scan or .... very pricey Versalink C505X for $2800 Print/Copy/Scan/FAX Note: - all prices are in Canadian $ ( 1 CA$ = 0.80 US$ )

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality prints This is a fantastic machine. The print quality is right up there with the big leased XEROX color copiers, but at A LOT smaller price tag. The menu is a little weird and getting it to print via the bypass tray is finicky, but all in all on high quality paper this thing is amazing! Only other negative with this machine is the toners are very expensive. So buyers need to factor in re-supply costs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Throws Errors on hard use. I love the unit, however whenever I print larger jobs or from remote computers, the unit throws errors. Had multiple different ones, and the help screen says call my network admin, (that is me). Had issues with the fuser unit sending troubles, blue screen when remote printing, etc. want to love it for the speed, but it is always on the fritz when I need it the most. On the flip side, some of this may be due to the recent windows 10 update issues that cause hardware problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nearly Flawless We've had this printer for about 2 years. Our printing load is roughly 200 color pages/day. It prints fast, accurately, and reliably. We tried using compatible toner but the print quality was terrible - went back to OEM and its perfect. She's pricey to operate on OEM toner but that's just how it goes. We just bought another because it has worked so well. We've had a bad stretch of color laser printers up until we purchased this unit. There are plenty of other printers with much better reviews and some of those we tried with horrible results. This model it perfect for us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good relaible workhorse for small office I was very pleased that the machine was basically a plug-in product on an older Windows 7 system. I did it myself with no problems. I was up and running in minutes. When I upgraded to Windows 10, it took more work because the factory info left out some critical steps. Fortunately, I found the info on YouTube and was up in running again. Except for that glitch, I am quite pleased with all the machine does. It was a good buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great with one drawback This machine performs well, well-suited for our small office. The one drawback is the scanning; it scans into very large files. Even though our paperwork is mostly black and white, color ink is preferred because it shows seller's name, signatures, etc. Contracts are 15-25 pages, property disclosures are 40+ pages. These scans in color run 10-20 MB, sometimes more. Our cloud file storage is quickly maxing out and sometimes emailed paperwork won't go through due to the large file sizes. It is set on the lowest resolution. Other than that, it does a great job, fast, not too noisy, one or two sided no problem, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replaced my old Colorqube, pleasantly surprised My old 8700 finally bit the dust so it was time to upgrade. Pros: prints faster than expected Really crisp print quality Easy to use from my phone Toner isn't as pricey as it was for the solid ink printers Setup was fairly straightforward (if you've ever set up a printer before you won't be surprised by this one) Cons: it was expensive Super heavy, it was a pain to get upstairs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for a home office We'd become used to an older high-end HP Color Laser. The C505 came highly recommended, and we took the chance. For our b&w and color needs, and for speed, we've been very pleased. We still have to train ourselves on available options, ... and there are many!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is just an average machine The color quality is not the best, certain colors will copy but not print, and it is very quirky printing some PDF documents. The bypass also can be difficult. I expected more from a Xerox product, I don't think I would buy another one of this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waste of $$$ Bought this for our small business, at first, print testing was great. When we needed to print envelopes, labels, brochures, etc., the problem began. Printing from the bypass tray does NOT work, we were able to get it to print once and that was it! We resetted the system dozens of times. It was just a waste of time we had spent on trying to resolves the issues. We went online looking for answers and it was hopeless. We used another inexpensive printer that did the job and ended up using the Xerox printer for regular letter size printing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versalink C505 is just what we needed. The user interface on this printer is pretty intuitive. It is easy to track supplies usage via the web and can be set up to send error reports to the IT person. We love the scan to network folder and to email feature. For our small busy office this printer gives us everything we need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great business all-in-one machine Having used several lower grade systems and always being frustrated with slow print speeds, slow warm-up, poor print quality, and numerous toner issues, I decided to invest in a higher quality multi-function system. The C505 was relatively easy to set up and integrate into the network (I would have loved built-in wireless but running a wire wasn't too hard). It took me about 4 hours to set up all of the features that I planned on using and connect my office computers to it. Once set up, the system has proven to be better than I expected. It warms up very quickly, prints at lightning speed (even dual-sided prints), and is very reliable. Scanning is quick and easy as is scan-to-email which we use significantly. It's been running for about 2 months now and I am extremely pleased with it. Well worth the investment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenging Printer We have had this new printer since January 12th, 2018 and it is very different from our Xerox Colorcube 8700 and challenging. I have been searching for a video with step by step instructions and of course I don't see it. So I'm reading the instructions and playing with it so I can teach my co-workers how to use it. I will not stop trying until I understand almost everything about this multi functional printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 505 Hi. This multi-function printer is working perfectly as described. I have sent many copies to the printer from my computer and it works great. I spent about 2 hours with three Xerox people to get the equipment working, but it was worth the time. The copies are fresh and clear, the scanner is absolutely fantastic. I am very happy with this machine. You should get one! Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not buy this printer (unless you like tearing your hair out) Purchased on 12/5/18. A Xerox representative is coming over 1/30/19 because we received an error message. Seems we may need to, after 1 month, get a replacement part?? This machine is difficult and sometimes IMPOSSIBLE TO USE. I've been using printer/fax/scanning machines for the last 20 years and this one - is by far - the most engineered and utterly impossible to use. Why should I have to walk over to the machine and press "Done" when I'm done printing? Why does it sense a change in paper thickness and refuse to work? Why can't I simply place an envelope into the feeder and have it print an envelope? I have to "tell" the printer to print a Monarch #10 envelope then "tell" the printer that I am "done"?? We get error messages for the simplest things. Simply and utterly frustrating. I probably will be sending it back and getting a much less complicated machine. You know, something that simply scans to e-mail, makes copies on various colors and thickness, prints envelopes and faxes! What a great concept!! Whoever invented all the crap and made it overly complicated and impossible to use is a complete idiot. Clean prints however.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer This print quality on this model is great and the print speed is too, but the scan feature is difficult to set up and if you run out of ink in just one color cartridge, you are completely shut down from printing....you cannot even print in black and white. Otherwise, it is a great printer and our office loves it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Question this VersaLink C505/X is a Decent MFC I purchased this newly introduced C505/X mainly for its scanning capabilities, it's scanning functionality has met and exceeded my expectations. Its printing functionality and print quality from a computer file is above average in both terms of speed and in expected print quality. Overall print quality is above average and its print graphic user interface (GUI) is relatively easy to use for first time users who are not accustom to working with a high end MFC machine. The VersaLink C505/X copying function is a different matter. First for the good news, for any corporate enterprise or professional services office whose work product consists of legal size paper or copying onto legal size paper, that is 8 1/2" x 14 sized paper, you must opt for the more expensive VersaLink C505 or the C605 models, Do Not consider the less expensive but more popular C405 model. The C405 model has only the 8 1/2" x 12" letter sized glass plate for coping and scanning. Yes the C405 has a copying and scan paper feeder, but for paper bound filed documents, having a full legal sized glass plate is the only way to go. The copying function is relatively easy to use, but there is no contrast adjustment on the main user function screen which is terribly annoying. Obviously there is a "darkening and a lightening" adjustment but there is no document contrast adjustment. Xerox must correct this oversight in its future production machines. The enlargement or reduction size selection function works as well as any full sized office copier. Now for the bad news, the copying print quality leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. For some unknown reason the copying function output print quality is substantially different from that of the print quality from that of a printed computer file. To this user, this material difference in print quality from the two different document source functions is terribly incongruent, and doesn't make a lot sense in my opinion, I will forward and submit Case File Complaint to Xerox to request their support and intervention. Hopefully this print quality disparity issue can be addressed and resolved with some kind of upgraded software update. The scanning in and the production of PDF files functionality is exceptional, no problems no issues. The user programing needed to setup and send the newly created PDF files to their desired locations (i.e. to specific email locations with different email addresses) is difficult but not overwhelming. It appears the Xerox design and programming engineers did their home work and listened to previous Xerox customers in designing the scanning in process, making it as easy and efficient as they could without the need for the user to invoke Adobe's Acrobat DC program afterwards. This user was afraid that he was going to have to purchase the Adobe's Acrobat full DC version program to make simple changes to the created PDF files. However, the C505's built in software automatically recognizes different sized individual pages (i.e. scanning in a legal sized page in the landscape position among other letter sized pages all within the same created PDF file) and if necessary it rotates the odd sized page to the correct portrait visual position without any intervention by the user. Hats off to the Xerox design engineers. Now for the bad news, similar to the faxing function as stated below, the dpi setting for the scanning in function is NOT on the main user function screen, this user changes dpi settings for every single created PDF file. Xerox must put the dpi setting selection on its main user function screen. However, within the initial set up menu which is different than the user interface function screen, the standard 200, 400, and 600 dpi selection settings are available. The choice of full color or black and white and text verses photo selection settings are all on the main user function screen as they should. The "X" version of the C505 has the fax function capability. Again the output print quality is above average for this antiquated technology, my only complaint is that fax sending dpi selection is NOT on the main user screen for some unknown reason. The fax sending dpi setting is in an esoteric initial setup screen which you have to invoke MS Windows 10 to get to. It is a real pain to make any dpi adjustments, but the overall dpi print quality is exceptional and it has the upper limit of 600 dpi for sending high end print quality report faxes to the latest and greatest of all fax machines. Given Xerox's current price discount promotion program from Xerox Direct, the VersaLink C-505/X represents an exceptional value for this upgraded MFC machine. I highly recommend the C-505/X for a small office environment up to 10 users. Additionally, if any production of documents which requires or entails the consistent use of legal sized paper, only purchase the C505/X with the additional 550 page paper feeder. The bypass tray is only good for # 10 sized business envelopes and not adequate for the consistent use of legal sized paper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable all in one for small business Setting up the scan to email feature was tricky, but otherwise we were able to get this printer set up without the help of an IT professional. Great printer/scanner/copier ( we do not use the fax feature so cannot comment on it) to get the job done at an affordable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VersaLink C505 Poor support. Very expense repair. Our unit is not under warranty & the billable amount is $300 for the first half hour and then $280/hour, not including parts. To replace the LVPS would cost us a minimum of $500. To make matters worse, the manufacturer of the LVPS does not have any in stock, so we are without this expense printer. Printer is nice when working, but we have had numerous problems getting it to work properly and now the power supply is out. I would not recommend this printer because of the poor support by Xerox.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fuser error, new fuser unavailable. We started using this new printer in 2020 and it worked really well, but a month ago the fuser broke (it gives a fuser error on the screen), and the Xerox store, which is fulfilled by CDW, said they had replacement fusers, but it turns out they don't, and nowhere else seems to either. Without this one part, the printer becomes a really expensive paperweight. :-/

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home Office Printer / Copier / Fax / Scanner I have had my Xerox C505 for about 6 months. Been very happy with it as a home office printer. Easy to use and good print quality-super fast. I am having some difficulty in trying to figure out some of the advanced features like sending scanning and printing something via email. But the quality and speed has been fantastic.
