Ran out of ink
I have not even gone through a brick of paper which is 500 pages. I must have only printed 200 pages of just plain text with no graphics. They are not telling us the truth about the page capacity as much as 18,000 pages. Maybe if you print one word per page!!! Very disappointing.

Drum expires quickly
I went with a toner based printer to invest more money up front but i was hopeful that this would pay off with toner being less expensive than ink. I wonder however if they make that cost up in the drums. My drum lasted only a few months before the quality went to unreadable. It's very disappointing as these drums are incredibly expensive.

Nowhere near 18,000, not even 1,800
Started using this printer l about 3 months ago and have gone through less than 4 reams of paper and it's already out. So less than 1,800 pages if I had to guess, a far cry from the 18,000 that is promised. Most of my documents are standard word docs and emails, nothing majorly graphical. Very disappointing.

Great printer and easy to use
I have had my Brother printer for about 5 years now and have been very pleased with it's performance. I print frequently and it has served the purpose very well. The toner cartridges last much longer than the ink I was using in my previous ink jet printer. I am just now receiving a notification to replace the black drum, which I think is pretty good for 5 years of use. I would recommend this printer and look forward to using it for many more years.

Odd drum design that you have to buy in set
Odd design caused the drum to be discarded with the empty ink for 1 of 4. We then had to order a set of drums so that we could get the 1 we needed to get the printer to work. This seems like a way for Brother to make money as you can't buy only 1 drum and we are surely not the only business to have had an employee remove the empty ink and discard the drum as they didn't realize that it is 2 pieces instead of 1. Poor design of printer that adds unnecessary expenses to a small business as Brother doesn't sell drums individually.

New month, new drum
Very disappointing. I would have thought the company's QC program would have been better than it obviously is.

Bad Product
My printer is only six months old with limited use and I am, and have been, experiencing poor print quality (black marks all over the page. Tech support walked me through cleaning the drum which I did too many times to count with no improvement. I now need to buy new drums. Back to buying Dell products for sure!

Does not last at all.
It's unbelievable that they can claim 18,000 pages life for this drum. My drum failed at just over 1000. Just splotches of black all over the pages. Of course it would fail right before a meeting. Last Brother i buy.

The HL-L3231CL printer is a dud
I have had my Color printer just shy 1 year, hardly use it, need color printing occasionally. I do have a Brother Black only printer that is a work horse which I love and has never disappointed. As I began to use the color printer, the infamous black smudges that all the other rating comments mention began to appear. I removed the drum/cartridge and ink powder was spilling out so I blew it off thinking it was a fluke. Reinserted hoping, but not receiving clean print. I was just shopping hoping to replace the one drum only and a new black cartridge but all the packaging requires i purchase 4 drums if i want genuine brother! I am not willing at this point to try a knock off - SO I am stuck with a printer that i cannot use OR I spend the same amount of money that I purchased the printer for in the first place to replace the drum and cartridge in the HOPES that it will not be defective again. Very disappointing.

Horrible! Printed less than 100 pages...
Horrible.. yellow drum went bad after printing less than 100 pages. When you reach out to CS this is what they say, "Consumables have a short life or performance in comparison with printer machines, besides we are unable to anticipate the use manner from the customer with those parts, that's the reason why consumables warranty is shorter than the regular warranty services." They don't care at all this product is rated for 18,000 pages and you can't even print 100 without issue but because I am outside of 90 days they expect me to pay to replace it.

Buyer Beware
I purchased a MFC-L3770 printer and one of the drum units had a huge chip/gouge that caused a repeating cyan shape in the middle of the page. This was brand-new! I contacted Brother support and they turned down my claim because I was beyond the 90 day ‘consumables’ warranty. I jumped brands to Brother because I thought I could trust them. I guess I was wrong.

Disappointed in Black Drum life
I've had other Brother printer's and they were great. Not the case for this one. After going thru the "starter" black toner, I purchased a Genuine Brother High yield black toner. It worked great for about a week, then started getting repeating black dots and smudges. So went to website for recommendations to fix. I did what they said several times, clean black toner drum. It didn't work so called tech support and they walked me thru the same thing only to have them tell me, since it didn't work, I had to buy a new black toner drum since it had been 4 month's and warranty on drum only good for 90 days. I'm very disappointed because there's no way I came anywhere close to 18,000 pages as stated. The last Brother printer I had I didn't replace the drum for years, a testament to the low volume of printing I do. Based on other reviews I just read before writing this, tells me it could be an on-going issue toner and drum.

Low quality
Printer is less than 90 days old.....page count of 7300 and already the drum is broken and needed to be replaced. the replacement drum is 30% of the cost of the new printer!!! Already had to change all 4 toner cartridges TWICE so i have spent more in supplies on this printer in less than 3 months than I did on the printer itself!! Will not buy brother again.

Where is the ink!!!
I used the ink that came with printer.... Okay we all know that the started inks dont last no biggie. But um when I pay for legit ink I expect to get EVERY SINGLE PAGE PRINTED it promises. Nope it does not. I have a 500 pack of paper and only half way through and im OUT OF INK. I am legit looking into the generic toners because $125 is not ideal. I cant not recommend brother. Until they actually give what they advertise.

Horrible starter ink drum for price
I recently bought the HL-L3290CDW; I know that most printers have low yield starter inks, but this is ridiculous for how much this printer was! I only printed 124 pages of random color and black and white and I'm almost out of all ink. Given the price of these ink replacements, it would have been nice to at least get through 500 pages of the 18,000 yield as advertised!

Cartridge leaked everywhere
I bought the Brother MFC-L3770CDW new in Nov 2019 hoping to print our Christmas newsletters in color to save a little money and to be able to print at home. The quality of the prints was poor because there were black smudges on all of the newsletters. I got busy with the holidays and did not follow up on the problem with Brother. Our school aged daughters had to print more items at home because of COVID and they kept complaining about the quality of the prints and black smudges over everything. I tried to call but couldn’t get through because of ridiculous long hold times so I sent a help request through their website. I never got a follow up on that. I sent another request for help, with photos, in Feb of this year and got a generic link which basically said “don’t use knock-off cartridges and you won’t have a problem”. These are the original Brother cartridges. I did another follow up email explaining these were original Brother cartridges and the problem has been going on since I purchased the printer. The response from Willy was basically “sorry for you, you waited too long to tell us. You are out of warranty”.
Yes, all true. So me, the consumer, who is busy with life and trying to keep everything going is stuck paying for the cost of a defective product. So, should I pay for another cartridge and hope it works or just give up on this machine and start with another one?
Like all consumer products, I’m sure there are some bad ones every now and then. It would have been better if Brother had offered for me to send in the defective cartridge after my first inquiry rather than assuming I was using a knock-off brand. This would have:
1 Shown good will and a sincere desire to solve my issue
2 Allowed Brother to examine their defective cartridge and correct the manufacturing process
3 Not gotten a 1 star review
4 Retained a customer

What a waste of money
The black drum went bad almost immediately. It costs half the price of the printer.

Expensive paperweight
I've had this expensive laser printer for a year. I have printed a total of 480 pages, mostly black-and-white, and not a single page could be considered a clean print. The color text on the test print pages is sharp, but all of the pages are covered by a layer of black/gray streaks. I've done the recommended cleaning step-by-step on several occasions hoping for a legible print and have only been disappointed each time. The black cartridge seems to be malfunctioning. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate a place where I can buy only a black cartridge. I can only find them available together with all the other colors, which I do not need. I expected a better product from a seasoned company.

Save your money
This printer MFC-L3770CDW is the worst printer we have purchased for our company. It makes no difference how many drums are toners you buy. Print quality is terrible. Barely visible no matter if Black or White or Color. If you wish to use it as a door stop it would be a great buy.

fewer pages
I love the printer but when it says low ink level it is out.
Less than 500 pages of black ink (not 10,000 and can"'t find ink anywhere except on web site with 1 week delivery.
