Manage security with leading firewall features while navigating AWS cloud challenges

What is our primary use case? Mostly, my partners and customers are connected through VPNs. I have VPNs for my enterprise, which work with multiple customers for online solutions and payment gateways. I also have a contact solution for payments. How has it helped my organization? My firewall solution allows me to manage stability and security effectively. I ensure the stability of security solutions through routine checks and updates. What is most valuable? The most effective features of the solution are its Magic Quadrant positioning, making it a leading firewall on perimeter areas and internet edges. It functions very well in data centers. Its effectiveness is highly dependent on budget and approach. Moreover, the return on investment is calculated according to my organization’s sizing and has never been an issue. What needs improvement? I experienced some problems with AWS cloud parameters connected to Palo Alto firewall. However, I haven't thought of a specific solution for improvement. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using this firewall in my current organization for eight years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I rate the stability as ten out of ten. The solution is very stable for my needs. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Scalability depends on picking the right box. For my case, it is rated nine out of ten. The solution can handle more than ten thousand users in my organization. How are customer service and support? The support has been shaky. Initially, it took one or two hours to get a Palo Alto engineer, which is quite slow. I expect faster response times. How would you rate customer service and support? Negative Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? No other solution was evaluated on the perimeter side or the edge internet side in my region. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is straightforward and mature. If you're experienced, it’s rated eight to nine out of ten in terms of ease of process. For beginners, it might be a six or seven out of ten. Works as a gateway for users and network devices

What is our primary use case? We use the solution as a gateway for users and network devices. What is most valuable? When I compare the tool with other firewalls, it’s the most powerful. It's the most powerful security engine. All the traffic going to the Internet passes through it as the first layer of protection. Because of its good performance, we also use it for decryption. The product's most useful function is its performance. I also appreciate the ability to create rules as groups and apply filters to each group. Each application has its own rules, which can be combined using a group, which is very effective. Additionally, we use Palo Alto Networks PA-Series for decryption, applying encryption policies on the firewall. The encryption policy works for all traffic going to the Internet. We integrated it with Active Directory, specifically with our three or five Active Directory servers. This integration works well for user analysis and policy authentication. The tool is rated high in Gartner reports. What needs improvement? I had opened a case before with the tool because I could not create a wildcard for the security address. We can create wildcards for security addresses in Fortinet, but this feature doesn't exist in the product. We use it as a decryptor using the decryption policy. Any site with a certificate chain with some intermediate CAs not in the CA database already downloaded in Palo Alto Networks PA-Series will not open until I extract the certificate and import it manually into the CA database. This is a workaround. I opened a ticket, and they guided me to upgrade the firewall to a specific version, but I haven't done it yet. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with the product for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I rate the tool's stability an eight out of ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I rate the tool's scalability a nine out of ten. We have approximately 2,000 to 2,500 users working through the firewall. In addition to the users, we have around 2,000 non-user end devices, such as printers and cameras, connected to the network. How are customer service and support? I haven't contacted the tool's support directly. We seek assistance through our vendor. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Fortinet has some features that surpass the Palo Alto Networks PA-Series. While Palo Alto Networks PA-Series' performance is very good, Fortinet offers some advantages not found in Palo Alto Networks PA-Series. One of the best features is the wildcard security and address. Another significant advantage is the built-in SD-WAN feature with the FortiGate firewall. These features are not available in Palo Alto Networks PA-Series. How was the initial setup? The tool's deployment is simple because of its intuitive dashboard. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The solution's pricing is high compared to that of Cisco and Fortinet. What other advice do I have? I rate the overall product a nine out of ten. I recommend it. What is our primary use case? We use the solution to connect to the internet. It is for a company that produces dog and cat food. We have enabled threat prevention. What is most valuable? The product makes me and my users feel safe. I like the URL filtering. I don't have to change or add something. I like the security analyzer a lot. I use it a lot to see if there are any configuration errors. It points me in the right direction. The documentation is great. We can find everything we want in the knowledge base. We can learn how to set things up. It is understandable. Even I know how to do it. What needs improvement? The web interface is slow. It is a pain. However, the rest of the device does what it's supposed to do. I rate the web interface a two or three out of ten. I rate the rest of the solution seven or eight out of ten. Integrating the tool into our security system was not quite easy. It has a steep learning curve. We have to think about things like security profiles. It would be nice if the vendor provided a penetration testing tool. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using the solution for a year and a half. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I rate the tool’s stability a nine out of ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The box is a bit small for us. The most effective features for threat prevention in the PA-Series are its integration with Cortex and the use of machine learning AI for advanced threat detection. These capabilities, especially present in the newer generation firewalls like the PA-4000 series, enhance our security posture significantly. What needs improvement? Migrating from old to new Palo Alto Networks firewalls can sometimes encounter hiccups, and there is room for improvement in streamlining this process for smoother transitions. The initial setup of Palo Alto Networks PA-Series was straightforward, especially with prior network and security knowledge and a helpful training course. The intuitive web UI made the process comfortable, and overall, Palo Alto Networks seems to be heading in the right direction with user experience improvements. What other advice do I have? I have experience deploying and managing PA-Series firewalls in a multi-site environment, including international locations connected via MPLS. We use them for perimeter security and have centralized management through Panorama. Deploying and managing them across sites has been straightforward and effective which makes Palo Alto Networks a preferred choice for our network security needs. The PA-Series has consistently helped us prevent cyber-attacks through its threat prevention and vulnerability profiles. By configuring security profiles effectively, including antivirus and threat prevention, we have successfully mitigated various threats. What is our primary use case? It's our basic firewall, mainly web filtering and application filtering. We use it in a multi-site environment, especially with cloud-based firewalls. What is most valuable? Web filtering and application filtering are the most valuable features. The cloud-based aspect helps significantly. It integrates seamlessly with other Palo products like Prisma Cloud, offers robust VPN protection, and it's all in one convenient package. What needs improvement? The UI definitely needs work. In my opinion, the UI could be simpler and more user-friendly for the average user. For example, I encountered complexities with policy management. Policy management is one of the areas where the UI is not intuitive, and managing policies can be quite complex. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using this solution for one year. We work with all the technologies from Palo. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is a stable product. I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.
